Laugh and Everyone Laughs With You
AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Laughter is really good medicine and, if you've ever felt the joy of a really good laughfest, you know what I mean. It seems to clear the mind and free the good emotions so that we get a dose of health all rolled into the sound of joy.

Now, researchers are telling us that laughter is actually contagious and that's interesting because we've always known about contagious anxiety. Want a hurt child to not wail hysterically? Be calm and reassuring and contain your anxiety and watch the result in terms of the child's reactions.

The scientists in London found there's actually a part of the brain that responds to laughter and it's the part that helps us mirror other people's responses to things. Remember the child and the mirroring that went on there? So, here we have a way to spread the joy and our brains help without our even thinking about it.

Dr Farrell,

My therapist has one of the most infectious laughs! It is so delightful and joyful! When we find something to laugh about in session the laughter we share or that she infects me with lifts me up so much! And the memory of it can be just as uplifting. It may or may not be a therapeutic tool of hers, but it definitely is therapeutic!

Great comment, Dr. Farrell! This certainly explains why one giggler can lead to a whole classroom of guffawing first-graders. :]

I was wondering if anxiety would cause complete loss of appetite? I am hardly hungry anymore. I have lost 30 pounds in 8 months. All of my blood work is normal, what is going on with me?

When my friend has a panic attack she tries to recall what she was doing at exactly the time it occured. Sometimes it helps her to understand what triggers them. Then she challenges herself to experience those triggers a bit at a time by recreating that situation. It seems to help quite a bit.

I am a 50 year old male very stable, married 28 years no financial pressures or other life challenges other then normal day to day. My problem is that my family has always been emotional (tearing up) at almost anything. As I am aging this is getting more frequent. I cannot emphasize enough that I am not depressed or stressed I am just over emotional and it is getting out of control.

While I appreciate the altruism of teaching people how to enjoy their life, free of charge, we don't allow "advertisements" on this blog.

Sorry, but you should not post about a personal or other website here.

I logged on tonight and had the same exact question as the 50 year old gentleman posted at 1:09 pm. ONLY difference is I'm 45 and single. Very happy and content more then ever. But I keep tearing and have no idea why.
