Pet Food Recall: 60 Million Cans and Counting
People love their pets. They love their dogs and cats, their birds, reptiles and other creatures great and small and, if you saw me recently on Good Morning America, you heard me say that, to some people, dogs are their surrogate children. So, what happened that all of these cats and dogs were left without the usual protections regarding food safety? It reminds me of the problem we had with cattle feed awhile back.Although we now seem to know what happened and where the problem originated (in rat poison which somehow got into wheat products used in pet foods), the question that is troubling me isn't being asked.
I'm a bit anxious just thinking about it and I wonder how many other people share that feeling.
Where are all those 60 million and counting cans of killer pet food going? Who is going to dispose of it and where? Wouldn't you want to know that it had been done safely and that there were some assurances that it wouldn't somehow get into some other supply of pet food, ground water or whatever where it would hurt or kill something or someone? I know I want to know.

That is a good question, how will the tainted doy/cat food be disposed of? I am guessing they will inceneraate it, or whatever method will destroy the poison's effect. I have always bought the dry food for my animals, but I still worry. We need answers as soon as possible, on how this happened and what type of disposal is being/will be used.
I would also like to know that someone had gone to the trouble of identifying the supplier and whether the supplier sold the bad wheat to other pet food makers. My brand wasn't identified, but I am still worried that the same wheat was shipped to that company too.
My cats adore their wet food, but we aren't giving it to them again until we are sure.
Is anyone else wondering if any of that wheat was used in foods for human consumption? Take a look at some typical foods in a Chinese market, many have wheat and wheat gluten on the list of ingredients. Will tainted human food items be the next issue?
You're all asking good questions, so how about seeing where we might get some action on them? I'm thinking that our Senators and Congresspersons have a responsibility here and I'd like to know what they're proposing or if they're asking for proposals from us.
I too am worried. My cats and dog eat the foods I give them only because they have no other choice.I feel guilty every time I put it in their dishes. I give Pedigree, Royal Canin, Cesar to my dog, and Ims biscuits. I give Purina, Friskies, etc to the cats.I worry it may be contaminated. Sometimes they turn their noses up at it. It is a shame that producers are often careless about our best friends, food.
