Paris Isn't So Hot Right Now
Yes, I've seen the news, I've read the internet items, I've seen the TV "special reports" and "flashes" about Paris Hilton and her current not-so-hot dilemma and I can't stop myself from responding to all of this.
There will be those of you who feel I shouldn't waste my time on something as inconsequential as this. I just got a call to "come immediately" to a national TV station because they wanted me to appear on camera. I turned them down. I feel bad for Paris and I would have said that on camera, but I'm not going to run to a TV station to kick someone when they're down. And I do believe she's down right now.
Nope, I never watched her TV show, always thought she was leading a life that seemed devoid of purpose, but who am I to say? Should everyone spend their lives devoted to good works? Not a bad idea, but I'm a realist.
Paris was the media's darling and now they've turned on her and the juggernaut has her in its jaws and everyone is urging the mastication on. Pull back a minute, guys, and let's see the other side.
Who made this horrible creature? Did she just pop out like some she-devil just dying to be adored? I don't think so. Neither do I think she's not responsible for her actions. Of course she's responsible.
I don't believe she ever realized how this was going to play out or that both her money and her name were going to work against her. The rich don't get the same treatment as you or I whether they have an anxiety disorder, severe depression or drink too much. If anything, the sages, who yearn to be in the spotlight themselves, will cry for more punishment and justify it as justice for all without regard to means. Sure, I agree with that concept, if all the other egos out there could be taken out of the equation. Who is making money on this woman's current state of mental unhealth? Would you want to be there throwing the first stone?
One thing is for sure and that's that Paris is spoiled, has been insulated from the real "real" life and reality has hit her squarely in the face. The toying with her (go to jail, no, go home, no talk to us on the phone, no, come back to court AND go to jail again) is maniacal. No one has a right to torture someone like this. I put myself in her place (no, I've never been in jail or had any DWIs) and I wonder how I would react to this yo-yoing of my fate. I think I'd question my own mental stability and pray for someone to save me.
Paris is in the center of this mess and I can't help but think that it has shades of Anna Nicole about it.

Good for you Doc. The only difference between Paris and others who run afoul of the law is ratings. She is just as human as you and I and can make the same mistakes as anyone else.
Thank you doctor...to me, Paris is a cute, sheltered young lady who - as many of us would - enjoyed her wealth and charisma. I, a 65 year old single woman, enjoyed watching her...her TV show was fascinating; that someone who led such a life would put themselves into situations I never would; milking cows, cleaning all sorts of distasteful things; and putting up with being treated less than kindly. I think it's brilliant and shows lots of guts. She was born and bred beautiful and I cannot understand people hating her as much as they seem to. I know she'll come out of this fine and it will be interesting to see what the new Paris will do to entertain us. I'm cheering for her and was glad when they released her, since others serving for much worse crimes get out serving much less time. I think they should have just let her stay out. What a farce. The judge evidently holds prejudices against those born to privilege..I agree with previous message; we all can make mistakes too and have been lucky not to get caught. When I was younger, before I knew better, I drove when I had a drink or two. I might have misunderstood 'suspended license' or thought I could get away with it. Not now, of course, but when young, many do much worse than be beautiful, young and a bit arrogant about the law. I hope they let her out soon. Thanks for the opportunity to express a few of my thoughts.
As someone who does suffer from depression and anxiety, my heart goes out to this naive kid. She did not receive equal justice under the law. She has been tortured by this yo-yo game they played with her. I hope she can come out stronger for this. But she is going to have some real baggage.
Happy to see you comment as it is one that few really ponder in this world. I am a 47 year old mother of 5 from 8 to 28,have fostered 17 hard to place teens and helped raise many tens more. It is just as easy to spoil a poor child as a rich one and sadly they often do end up as adults with many problems from getting all they wanted, rather then all they needed. I do feel for her,she is a victim of wealth and unkind journalism. I am not to fond of the media.I am just a peasant in the valley, never had enough to make ends meet, creative enough to make it.Despite this, I am wealthy, happy and blessed that all of mine are and will be spared what this young lady is going through. I think of her parents. If only her parents could trade places with her right now, they would of held back much more then they gave in material wealth to her. I am sure, as any loving parent, they are pondering all the do's and don'ts and uncountable times they can now see they should of held back or just said no! Many wealthy people have raised great kids too, by not giving their children all they wanted. I beleive that Paris is a very smart young lady and has had some good raising as well. She has far more hope then Ana Nicole ever did as Paris does have her parents and a family that care and are supportive of her. Ana Nicole is this countries poster child that was raised out of balance and suffered dearly for the lack of emotional fullfillment and needs being met from those that raised her. So for Paris, this we can all have hope that she will come out of it a better person and do great things with her life! It is not that we all do not like her or know her well enough to say she deserves what she gets. I think it is more so that our judicial system is very out of balance and to see a famous person serve as a common person would, makes others feel they are not the only ones that have to abide by the law. What we have seen in her case is a real power struggle within the judicial system to do what is right and just according to law or cave into her reputable fame and wealth.
In life we have two majors that will for sure determine our life path.
The things we want and the things we need. Anything we need to live and be well is good, the things we want and must haves, we can live without and by doing so, do make us balanced content people. You do not have to be a parent to parent a child. We are all teachers, we determine the outcome of those coming along behind us by what we show and share with them. It pains a parent to be tuff on their kids, it haunts a parent to think their children may may be teased for having less material things, but the final reward is that they will for sure with much love and affection grow up to be healthy productive people!
To have compassion for someone who is innocent is note worthy. The justice system may have it's problems but we all must take the punishment determined for our crimes no matter how big or small. How many of us "small, poor, middle class or regular people" would be let out of jail on a whim of the sheriff's office or police department? Once the judge makes a decision, again, we must abide by it or file an appeal.
I am a 58 year old mother of 4 adults. Not one drinks, therefore, have never been charged with drunk driving. Would you say the same if the person apprehended was my child, who was raised in a middle class home? Who says it is okay for some to take a car and threaten the lives of law abiding citizens. We must all take responsibility for our actions. It appears as if there are those who don't realize that Ms. Hilton disregarded the judge's prior reprimand. She was told not to drive and she did. With her ability to use other means for transportation, such as cabs, and personal drivers, she ignored the judge's direction. She in essence spit in his face and told him she was immune to his direction. She should complete her time and shut up! We should be thankful she did not kill someone.
To the 58-year-old mom of 4:
The facts are that if one of your children were in the same circumstances they would not have spent one single day in jail. Truly.
This was one judge's way of telling the world LA doesn't bow to celebrity. The only problem is that in the process, Hilton is being treated far differently than the average middle-class person with the same set of circumstances. They would be allowed to pay a fine and accept probation. If they broke probation they'd have to serve a longer one.
WAIT A MINUTE HERE...
FACTS?? Can you show and back up these facts now? I think Mom of 58 has made a great point, one I am sure that MADD would agree with! JUST HOW MANY MORE INNOCENT PEOPLE SHOULD DIE BEFORE THIS SYSTEM BEGINS TO LOCK DRUNK DRIVERS UP ON THE FIRST OFFENSE??
I mean, YOU ONLY GET 1 OPPERTUNITY TO REALLY DIE RIGHT?? WHY SHOULD ANY PERSON THAT SHELFISHLY GETS BEHIND A WHEEL AFTER DRINKING HAVE A SECOND, THIRD, FOURTH OR NINTH CHANCE??
In the paper yesterday I read about a 9 time repeat drunk driver that just got locked up for the first time!!
WOW!! Have you hit a nerve on this one!
Feel sorry for Paris! you got to be kidding. Her diary that she is keeping behind bars will net her probably about $2,000,000 and don't forget her interview with Barbara Walters. Do you know what her fee is just to spend 30 minutes at a club - try - $100,000. Like they say the rich get richer and enjoy the perks.
I do not know what to do about my son who does not believe that there is such a thing as depression and thinks I just need to get it together.
Finally - an intelligent response to this entire situation. Thank you for being the voice of reason. I agree with every single thing you wrote. I can't even add a thing, you stated how exactly I feel about ther ENTIRE situation. Thank you.
Yes,Paris, a rich and most definatly spoiled rich girl,As far as beautiful,Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! You can be beautiful on the outside." but if you are not the same on the inside,Then to me you are an unbalanced person.Whether a person is rich and famous.Poor,Beautiful or not,You do the crime you need to do the time. One time a mistake, yes,Two times the same mistake,NOT!
Ha! Someone talked to me about appearing on Hilton's show- but I couldn't because I am a union actress & the show is nonunion! I asked how that could be because she HAD to be union, having been in movies, commercials, etc. - but they just said, "it's her show"... (so no job for me) that's the difference between the rich & you & me....
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
who's the skaniest of them all...
