New Sunscreen Labeling Deadline Pushed Back
Remember the sunscreen label changes that the FDA set last year? Don’t look for those new labels this summer, after all.
The FDA originally scheduled the new rules to be in effect by this summer. Now, sunscreen makers have a new deadline: Dec. 17, 2012, for most sunscreen products. Smaller makers get an extra year, until December 2013.
Why the delay? The FDA said it was concerned that some sunscreen makers wouldn’t be able to comply with the new rules in time for this summer. ”This was not desirable from a public health perspective,” the FDA stated in the Federal Register.
