CDC: Whooping Cough Heading to a 50-Year High
The United States is heading for record rates of whooping cough, according to the CDC. Nearly 18,000 cases and nine deaths have been reported so far in 2012, twice the number of cases that were reported by the same time last year. Read more
Top 10 Safest & Most Dangerous Cities to Drive In
Orlando, Florida is the most dangerous U.S. city to drive in, with a rate of 19.4 car crash deaths per 100,000 residents, according to a government report. The overall rate is 11.1 deaths per 100,000. The report went on to name the 10 safest driving cities, which included Boston; Newark, N.J.; and Salt Lake City. Read more
Physical Inactivity May Be as Deadly as Smoking
If you don’t work out but think you’re healthy because you don’t smoke, think again. A study recently published in The Lancet estimates that as many as 5.3 million deaths worldwide in 2008 could be attributed to physical inactivity, which has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
