Madonna Turns 50 - Looks Like 40; How Anyone Can Look 10 Years Younger
Push the clock back 10 years? Look 40 - not 50? Yes, it is possible.
What does it take?
By 50, most women - and some men - show some frown lines between the eyes, some deepening of the nasal labial fold (those groove- like parentheses that separate the cheeks from the upper lips).
The skin has some deterioration. The smile lines/crow's feet around the eyes, the vertical lip lines; Smokers, yours will be deeper. Plus, sun damage: brown spots (now called age spots). Some tiny, barely visible red spider veins. The skin's fresh luster is gone. To the touch, that baby skin smoothness is a memory.
Then, there is the unending force of gravity. The upper lids' pleat sits a bit lower; the eyebrow has started to descend. For those blessed with a big happy smile, one of the smile muscles tugs at the tip of the nose and drags it down. So, the tip droops, the nose appears longer.
The chin - neck angle may no longer be as sharp as it was. The profile in the mirror tells the story; there's some hanging going on.
So there you are. Blame the sun, blame the cigarettes, blame gravity and if you are particularly vindictive, blame your parents and your genes. Much of the above may not happen to other 50 year olds who somehow won a better roll of the genetic dice.
What are the answers? Solutions? Remedies?

What are the answers? Solutions? Remedies?
- To spruce up your not-so-smooth-skin, with early age spots and those tiny blood vessels, consider practical, non-invasive office procedures and home treatments. Retin-A, Intense Pulse Light, microdermabrasion, light chemical skin peels.
If you live in Southern California, South Texas or South Florida and you forgot to put on your sunscreen and kept smoking, your skin may need a bit stronger rejuvenation - think medium strength peel or laser. - Frown lines between the brows? Horizontal forehead lines? Botox is your buddy.
- Deepening nasal labial creases? Fillers, Restylane, Juvederm. Yes, they are temporary, but they are predictable, safe and you can pay for as much youth as your budget allows. You are in control.
- Nose droop? A one-half hour abbreviated nose job. No bruising, minimal swelling of nose and lip. In one week, no one will know. The tip no longer hangs, the lip is longer, you look younger. Bingo.
- Need to crank up upper lids and lateral eyebrows? Botox may just do it. You try it. If Botox doesn't pull it off, you can have a straight-forward one-hour operation through a single hidden incision in the natural upper eyelid crease and be home by noon. This can remove the saggy upper eyelid pleat and raise the lateral brow (called a brow pexy). Stitches out in 5-6 days.
- Sagging neck? Jaw line becoming a bit obscure? Neck sculpture is the play. Through a horizontal, fine-line incision hidden under the chin, your surgeon can liposuction the nascient double chin, shape up the jaw line if needed, cinch up the loose (platysma) neck muscles. Think internal corset.

SOUNDS GOOD, BUT AFTER 80 NOTHING CAN BE DONE. I HATE BEING OLD AND WRINKLED. EVERYONE THINKS MY MIND HAS GONE, BUT WRINKLES HAVE REPLACED IT. BE GOOD TO YOUR OLDER NEIGHBORS.
None of these were surprising cures for wrinkles. Sea water and crushed daisy petals to get rid of wrinkles would be surprising.
all of this is great but none of the doctors tell you cost , which is high and Fillers, Botox only last for a shot time and the fillers well I had my lips done and my lips look terrible was told it was disolveable silacone I should have left my thin lips alone the prices for these quick fixes are high prices that is why women go to other countries maybe the doctors should come down in price.
Well lets not forget Madona has money and she can well afford all the treatments which are so expensive and really nothing last forever I myself had a tummy tuck about 12years ago and my skin has streched and I also had implants which thank goodness never a problem except what goes up comes down and something else the Doctors dont tell you with implants the breast grow it,s natural so not only larger but lower ha,ha,ha mine have been in for 20years can,t take them out now impossible all of this the doctors dont say .
If I had the money, I would have a total over-haul...I am almost 60 and have had 5 children...gravity is having HIS way with me.....but whatever happened to aging gracefully.....it is impossible to fit this image we women are supposed to be.....but, if I had the money, I would try.....
i am glad i look old because i think it would be creepy if i still looked young and my son's friends were oogleing me!
I wonder why our expert doesn't look young anymore.
It would be far more helpful to people for Web MD to teach people there is nothing wrong with aging naturally. Putting chemicals in and on our body may tighten things up, but all it really says is that we're not good enough the way we are. Pushing up self-esteem would do far more to make people glow than telling us to push up our breasts!
HI !!!
I agree with Sharon from Illinois. We should be hearing how O.K. it is to grow older and respect those who are. I want my grandchildren to grow up feeling good about themselves. Too much importance today is placed on being skinny and beautiful. What ever happened to making the inside of a person beautiful too. GOD made us the way we are and HE thought we were beautiful and loves us.
JACKIE in LOUISIANA :)
Things can be viewed +vely or -vely. but the fact is that you are aging and dying .It is a natuaral process and inavitable .
How long you can mask your aging ? is it possible to rejuvenate the whole system ? the esiest way to keep you young is , rejuvenate your mind . keep it young by thoughts , sense of freedom , sense of happiness . never worry about , what you have lost . try to satisfy with what you got . have a feeling that you are nothing in this vast universe .
All comments above are appropriate. These things are costly and not everyone can afford them. But haven't we all had that special occasion when we want to look great? Such as class reunion, second wedding, daughters wedding... I've tried them and some of these fillers work great to take off years or make lips more full and younger. Some even last nearly a year now. Best advice, seek out a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, not all Board Certifications are the same!
I agree with Sharon and Jackie and others. So you botox and restylane, snip and peel. But you are still whatever age you were when you started out. Age is a natural thing and if we weren't so terrified of it and accepted it graciously we would actually be happier people. We are lucky to be people who have a longer life span than our ancestors. Let's enjoy who we are and what we look like and try to get the most out of life.
To Sharon and Jackie and Anonymous who "dis" the article. Information is to Inform people of the options they have. This is a medical website, they are not going to preach how to grow old gracefully. You don't like that procedures are out there, then don't read it.
NO THANKS - I'm 44 now, and my wrinkles are just fine. I'm attractive and healthy. These procedures sound invasive, and expensive. I'm not a hollywood glamourgirl, so I don't feel the need. I'm happy with myself, and I'm happy with the lines around my eyes, or the ones across my forehead... Hey - These did not come easy - It's been thru trials and opportunities that I can be thankful for the beautiful wrinkles I currently have, and the ones I know I will have 6-10 years from now. However, I will say that keeping your skin clean, hydrated, and moisturized is certainly a big help. But like someone else posted: Seaweed and leaves would have been a pleasant suprise (and did I mention natural) to reducing wrinkles.

"Dissing" the article is part of freedom of speach. I think what the others were saying is if we could all afford the options listed in the article it would be great but most of us don't.Maybe what was expected was some secret tips on how to help concel our small flaws. I know I would love to have a few to use. And to the first comment,I do understand, I don't know when I went from feeling beautiful to feeling old...
And the Title of the article should not read "How ANYONE can look 10 years younger..." yeah, anyone who has money to burn, and if you have that kind of money to burn, I know a homeless shelter in need of some help too...
Guard your health....do whatever pro and pre-health for you that you can. Heaven help you if you have chronic pain issues like I do as pain is hard on the body; physical therapy, relaxation therapy, cold/heat therapy, do research on your particular health concerns. Finding doctors for your issues is key and very difficult to find ones that give a damn; esp in fully treating pain.
Hats, wraparound sunglassses, SPF 85, stay out of the sun. I'm 50 and been mistaken for 30. Find activities you love; esp if it is physical like ballroom dancing as the endorphins combined with being physical helps your body with staying young in every way plus having a passion and love in something you care and are interested in.
I also use 12% alpha hydroxy prescription acid and Retin-A and have for over a decade....
I'm going down fighting!
My observations tell me that the very basics are all that's required to look ten yrs younger, the cost being almost nil. Begin the day with eating well balanced meals. Excercise every day with 3 days a week being intense excercise.Try and reduce the amount of stress you endure by prayer and meditation (actually the 12 steps of AA are the most efficent way to live life stress free) Keep your circidian clock on time every day. Be certain to get the proper amount of good sleep you need every day. All the usual no's still apply, e.g. smoking, drinking, unprotected sun exposure. Just those basic simple things will leave you looking far younger, Why? Few people take decent care of themselves and just based on the average, doing so has you looking great! Simple and not expensive.
At 63 I smile more at the suggestions that we have to look a certain way. I refuse to dye my hair anymore. I got a cute cut instead. I try to eat right, exercise and sleep restfully. Laugh a bit each day and pay attention to the good. Pollyanna? Sure, a bit, but getting older happens and Im not spending my $ on "fixes." Who are we kidding? Good friends, family and loving life are better than wrinkle-resistant faces that cant smile.
None of this is problemmatic unless all of it becomes the source of one's happiness. Botox won't give you happiness. Everyone should know this going into it. So what if physical beauty is a priority in a woman's life. Or a man's life. It just shouldn't be the only priority. Don't judge someone who decides to get a facelift until you really know them. I am only 35 and i get botox about once a year and have had restalayne. But i'm also a good person with stong character and a deep sense of self. Go figure.
In my opinion Madonna looks her age, no one can fool Mother Nature. She may look less lined and so forth, but look at her eyes, at her expression & soon you'll notice she's no youngster! I do believe there is no harm in having a procedure to look younger if one can afford it, but one also must have realistic expectations not to be disappointed.
After things are said and done, I miss the grandmother of old. The one who looked her age, with the smile lines and the frown lines, and the wise lines and the joy her grandchildren had just being with her. And she with them. And the aroma of cakes being baked and stories being told and accepting the inevitable. God, I miss that!
I personally enjoyed the article since I am interested in doing something small. I am 57 and still feel very young at heart. It is the same as trying to eat right and exercise to stay young looking and healthy. If you can afford it and want to it is good to have an impartial party giving you the facts. They are not trying to sell you something so the information is not inflated or biased. I will continue to do all that I can to stave off old age for as long as I can. It is my choice, yours may be different and I support you in your choice but I hope you support me in mine.
Wash your face vigorously to remove dirty oils and use fingernails to exfoliate. Before the face dries, use Vitamin E and rub it in with aloe vera. Be sure to get even your eyelids. Then, rub once more with water and then pat your face dry to remove top layer oiliness. Take a Vitamin E orally too. I am 51 and many mistake me for being in my 30's.
Oh PS just for the record, Madonna absolutely DID have some "work" done about 6 months before her big birthday. Surprisingly not many in the press mentioned it, but it was very obvious to me even before anyone spoke of it. Even still with all her money, she only looks good from the neck down...
Web MD would tend to support the MDs who make money from face lifts, Botox, prescriptions of restylane, etc. It's these advertisers that support their web site. Don't expect differently; though it would really be refreshing to hear that maybe we are not as physically attractive with our slight wrinkles and droopy skin at 50, but we have the beauty of experience and years and confidence that are equally appealing.
I had a face lift and eye lift about 8 years ago... and am ready to do it again.. IF you decide to do this---research, research and check out the surgeon--- just because the price is right he has a great beside manner doesn't mean he will do a good job and do it correctly. This surgeon did not map my face, removed too much fat over my eyes and did not lift my neck, (I even let him try a second time - no change) and did not lift the muscles underneath, consequently, the lift did not last. I might add I did get all my money back when I challenged his work and said he did not meet the terms of our contract.
is this very painfull ...?
I agree with Shalimar...I miss the grandmas of old!!!! The cookie baking, apron wearing, Sunday dinner cooking grandmas of another time, sigh!!!
I AM 104 AND PROUD OF IT. THE ONLY WRINKLES I WOULD LIKE TO REMOVE ARE THE ONES ON MY PENIS...ANY IDEAS? LOVE CHARLIE
want a easy face lift?
go to a mirror, and SMILE- watch those droopy jowls etc disappear!
you will feel better too
Yes- I am sure everything is affordable for Madona and she can change anything on her face and the rest. Yet, she looks ugly I think. It is the diet that keep you young, fresh, healthy and good looking, not blown starchy lips. The beauty should always come from inside out!
I am @65, every one tells me that I'm about 45 yrs old"
so, i am doing even 10 yrs better than Madona's number.
The secret:
1)Drink 4 cups of green tea/day to protect your skin from Sun, plus many more health benefits,
2)Avoid direct Sun to your skin, 3)Eat Broccolis as much you can to keep your skin fresh and shiny
4)Get copper mineral by eating tomatoes, plus vitamin C & Zinc to build elastin fiber to support your skin structure.
You'll look good inside & outside!
Oh- don't forget 30 min exercise/day

I am not in your "goodie two-shoes" level. I smoke, drink, and have stress levels that most could never imagine. I am 45, female, a physical and intellectual worker. I work physically harder than most construction workers, my husband has not worked in four years because of cancer. Plus, he has many other physical problems that are very difficult to overcome in many other areas of our life. My husband is a very handsome man, and I at one time was a very beautiful woman. Stress takes it toll.
We were at a charity ball recently for "Women In Distress" and I "won", (for a price), a $1,000 gift certificate for botox and facial dermal rejuvation. Because of the fact that I am not willing or able to give up all my bad habits at this point. I would appreciate your opinions on what I should have done. Besides, quitting my bad habits. That's a no-brainer.
I don't want to freeze my expressions.
I agree with every comment posted before mine. Of course Madonna will look great at any age; she's a multi-millionaire (how many of us have that much money?) #2- the doctor's picture shows an old doctor. So, why haven't you had the work done if it's so terrific? #3- The doctors don't say on their websites how much these procedures cost. I called a few of them, thinking I could have a scar removed under my chin. These procedures are expensive AND they are temporary. So, you have to keep paying a lot of money every few months or a year a half's time. #4 - Yes, what is so bad about being old? What is the problem? I traveled through Europe and Asia and the elderly (even the semi-elderly) are proud to be their age, having lived that long, having all that experience to speak for. Why is aging so terrible? If nothing else, being elderly gets you a lot of discounts and pretty good benefits. I always tell my grown kids: "I can't get Botox on these wrinkles, because these wrinkles get my steak dinner half-price."
If you are happy in your own skin, congratulations. I know if my Mom, who is 74, looks great, wrinkles, smile lines, love stress lines and all... I know she doesn't want any work done, even if it was paid for by others. She is my loving MOM and will always be beautiful to the ones that truly love her, and I am sure those that truly love you feel the same way. And, the rest, who cares. Not a question, but a statement. Be true to yourself.
I lost my beautiful daughter at age 32. How I wish she had the chance to "grow old gracefully". She was and is is a beautiful person. I wonder how she would think I look at 60? Growing old "gracefully" does not mean you give up. I means you make the most of what life is left, and enjoy every minute. I intend to and enjoy my grandchildren as well.
There is far too much emphasis on youth and with it the need to be like them or revert back to how we were when in our teens or 20's. Its time we stopped trying to be something we are not anymore. Eat well, exercise and treat your body and mind with respect. Then we will keep our youthfullness.
LOL...Eat Right, Stay Fit, Die anyway......No matter what you look like.
As a 56 year old woman....mind you "Woman" not young girl.....I try to take the best care of myself that I can.....all I can say is Love yourself.....cause life is going to happen no matter what and that includes AGING....Besides why should we all look like we have plastic skin.....My name isn't Barbie !!!!

is good to be young,if you can do something about the wrinkled on your body what about the bones in your body so you see you can not teach nature.there is a saying, dont mind the body mind the engine but here is the case that the outer body is fresh but the inner one is weak.think about it.
I lost 75 lbs. and as a reward I had a neck lift. I found myself hiding my hanging neck all the time. It made me uncomfortable. I feel a lot more confident since the surgery, so much so that I'm trying new things. I've started writing, something I had never tried before.
I have a new self confidence. I'm having so much fun. And I must say I look years younger. I'm 66 but I look 40. That was my doctor's opinion. Now I want to stay healthy so I eat right, quit smoking and go to the gym every day.
I know plastic surgery is expensive but I didn't take trips and saved my money for 2 years. I'm soooo glad I did it!!!!!!!
OK here's the scoop. If the media would show those over 60 and 70 etc as alluring, smart, beautiful, and put these people in ads (like dove has) there wouldn't be this rush to look young. Older people need roll models and many of them to copy how to dress, wear hair, etc. All we have now is skinny sexy females that we are all trying to be.
I have 2 things to say:
1. Aging gracefully should be accepted daily; however to those who wish to have cosmetic procedures done to boost their self-esteem should not be judged or talked about. Some people may feel free to discuss what they have had done and others may want to keep it a secret, this is their decision & if it makes them feel better to boost their self-esteem good for them.
2. My mother never had any cosmetic procedure done, but I do have to say what you wash your face with & what moisturizer you use helps to keep your skin at its best. I have to say that my mom used facial wash & moistureizer but last Christmas I gave my mom PrevageMD. This stuff is great. It includes SPF & EPF factors to protect against environmental factors such as pollution, smoke, etc. My mother raves about it. Some of her fine lines have faded and her skin is smoother with a fresh look. My mother is 63 and she looks like she is 50. Not being a sun worshipper and using good facial products have helped her to keep looking great.
I worked, laughed, cried, sweat, froze, stressed, loved and played my BUM off for my wrinkles and each one has good story behind it, some I will never tell my children, with wrinkles are also memories and dad-gum I have some good ones!!
I would rather have wrinkles than look like madonna, poor choice of an idol to look like....an old trashy well.........blank.
Her money cant cover her nasty personality either, and I wouldnt let my grandchildren read her"so called childrens books "at all.
At 73 I am often taken for 50. I smoked for 20 yrs.spent my life in the sun, but exercised, ate fruit, etc. I also in my late 30's became a vitamin freak - take lots of vit c (collagen) and others. Hyalonuric acid works! restoring moisture to the skin from the inside. RESEARCH! And SMILE! Scorpio
I am 54 years old, and have been very lucky. I spent my teens and twenties at the beach trying to get a great tan, which I did. Then later in life in a tanning bed. I do smoke. But, I have hardly any wrinkles. Why? I don't know, genes, maybe. But, I am not going to question it, most people think I am in my thirties. As to the lady who uses her fingernail to exfoilate, that is not a good idea, you can get bacteria in any open sore or whatever you may have on your face. You can mix table salt with your vitamin e oil and use that to exfoilate, that will be safer and work great.
I just recently started using retin A, just to help keeping things down before they start to get bad, but thanks mom and dad for the genes, because I have done nothing for myself to deserve this not even wear sunscreen.
strabbery is anti-aging food,
fish oil,
To hear the advertisments, you would think no one feels like alot of the comments. I am proud of all of you.
I am 54 and live in Southern California. For appearance and youthfulness, the standards here are very high. It's a jungle and you've got to compete. Not to offend anybody, but when I travel, I really notice that I'm not home anymore by the way people look: pretty bad LOL. Anyway, around here it's very common to get Botox, fillers, and laser jobs. One thing the article doesn't mention is that, your body remodels where the Botox and fillers are targeted. So, if the Botox keeps you from pushing your eyebrows together, and the Juvederm fills in the creases, eventually, you fill in collagen in, where the creases were, diminishing the need for more fillers. Over a year ago, I had both Botox and Restylane in the "frown line", but have not needed any more Restylane and my forehead is smooth and beautiful. It is amazing how, by just doing the brow you'll look better by not looking mad all the time! Nobody wants to associate with somebody who always looks worried or pist. Anyway, just so you'll know, it's initially expensive to get the non-invasive procedures such as Botox and fillers (I use Juvederm now). But the cost of maintenance declines with time. BTW, Dr. Ourian in Beverly Hills still offers the cheapest Botox. You can get it even cheaper if you go to one of his "evening of beauty" each month, when the sponsoring company (Allergan for Botox) provides food and wine and you get a 20% discount! Good luck and enjoy your beautiful new look. Yeah, I'm 54 and I don't look a day over 40. It CAN be done without a scalpel!
Nothing will help create a more youthful look than bioidentical hormone replacement. I love Botox and fillers, but the most significant improvements came about with natural HRT.
I used to be against it...I'm still single and don't want to be. It might be worth saving up for.
Why is WebMD promoting surgical procedures?? When I clicked the link I was expecting an article that talked about nutrition, hydration, and the reasons why skin ages. Not an article by some plastic surgeon pitching procedures that just cover-up a perceived problem. I agree with Sharon.
Proper nutrition, hydration and exercise go a long way. Combining these three with a healthy attitude about aging will work wonders. Isn't aging better than the alternative?
I certainly would never get a procedure done by that plastic surgeon "expert".....walk the talk....
Take care of your body nutritionally and we ccan look younger....Use natural fruits and oatmeal to exfoliate dead skin and revitalize your skin....Don't smoke!
Don't sunbathe!....Most of all SMILE! everyday....It lifts not only the face, but the body from within.....

If you are healthy, exercise, and have lived a happy, healthy life, than what is wrong with a few wrinkles here and there? My grandma has aged wonderfuly but she still has wrinkles. I personally think wrinkles, or what I like to call "laugh lines" give a person character. Afterall, what's the fun in talking with someone who can't make facial expressions because the botox injections have their facial muscles paralized.
I'm only nineteen, but I feel there is nothing wrong with aging. It happens to everyone, and as long as you're comfortable with who you are as a person, and you feel healthy, then who cares how many laugh lines, or "wrinkles" you have.
Just embrace wrinkles and aging, it's a perfectly normal part of life. No need to worry. We're all beautiful the way we are (:
One more note: Some for get to mention that botox injections can be dangerous. Afterall, you are injecting a toxin into your skin. Botox is a drug made from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. This is the same bacteria that causes the life-threatning food poison known as botulism.
Just a thought...
If you want a frozen face or worse a face that is smiling behind your ears go for it it is your right...I've seen pics of Madonna lately and she looks like a scrawny chicken and to me that is just not attractive! Everyone handles aging differently. I would love to have my 18 year old body back but at 47 that ain't happenin'. Aging is just part of LIFE...the wrinkles, sags and bags happens to everybody!!! Unfortunately, we as a society are so obsessed with body perfection that young women in particular feel the need to do extremely harmful things to themselves, ie: anorexia, bulemia, invasive medical procedures, etc...What a shame that we have made aging and older beauty such a taboo! Smile, be happy and thankful that you are here to grow older. I hope I am fortunate in this life and I get to be one of those old gray haired grannys that enjoys my grandbabies. Cookies, hugs and lots of laughter...Oh Yeah!
My goodness, after reading all of the above comments. I'm so happy at 65 that I have come to terms with "aging" It's how you look at yourself. If your so preoccuppied about how other's see you, you should start to think about others. Really beautiful people try to make the world around them peaceful and to help those in need. To live in California, where you are so afraid to "age" that you'll lose a husband or job, Dr. 90210 is a perfect example. A spoiled brat of a wife, who isn't happy with a good hardworking husband. SEEMS THE WOMEN IN CAL. JUST NEVER HAVE ENOUGH OR FEEL GOOD ENOUGH ABOUT THEMSELVES. THAT'S A SORRY WAY TO HAVE TO LIVE YOUR LIVE.
Web MD has provided information about procedures that are available, it is not endorsing them. I am 40 and am looking forward to being 50. I don't intend to have any procedures done and no I don't have a model slim body and a couple of lines are making their way on my face but that's okay. What matters is that I am happy being who I am. But is it right to judge those who are not as accepting of themselves regarding the way they look? And why can't a younger looking grandma bake cookies and cakes? Every person is an individual with personal complexities. Let's not generalise or condemn the choices open to them. Warnings about what can go wrong are fair enough though.
This article is great! It gave me just enough information about the less invasive methods that can make one look refreshed.
I am nearing 60 and I don't expect to look 20, but I would like to lose the creeping crepey skin around eyes and neck.
Why not do what we can to look good?
It is just silly to rattle on about how we should go ahead and age and ignore it yadda, yadda. Women wear make-up, pluck their eyebrows, dye and perm hair, all in an effort to look nice.
I say, Onward to the plastic surgeon for whatever helps and you can afford.
Surgical treatments can be risky for some people. Experts tend not to give you full information, that means surgical treatments to reduce wrinkles and sagging skin will need to be repeated because the body tends to droop due to aging and the laws of gravity.
The better way is to live a healthy lifestyle, have work to to that you enjoy(especially after reirement age.volunteer, get a part time job, learn something new and keep a positive attitude.
Aging is a state of mind. Put your money in healthy choices and set some aside to help others less fortunate than you are.
Life is a continuous journey to learn life lessons and to leave the world a better place than when you entered it, wrinkles be dammed!
no matter how "young" you think madonna looks (and i disagree) she is still a bitchy middle aged woman. can't hide that fact. and all this botox, etc. come on people, not only is it expensive but also a poison. i can't afford this stuff but i would love to have my "frown" lines gone. i don't think i will be trying botox, however. no poisons for me.
Thank you Dr. Robert Kotler. I started using Retin-A about 25 years ago. Since then I have tried your recommendations and people always tell me I look ten years younger. I don't have money, but continue to take measures to help the aging process. It just depends on your perspective.
Loved all the comments i read. I am 24 years old and i wish the doctors and scientists will come together to produce a drug that will fight aging. if i had my way i wouldn't want to grow old at all. The whole aging process i do not like especially the wrinkles, pain here and there, and the sagging breast in women. My mum is 46 and has started aging, wish i could save her from getting wrinkles. Madonna's lifestyle i do not like but if i had the kind of money she has and the mind to do it, i do not see anything wrong with wanting and trying to look good and attractive at 50yrs+.
Lot's of great comments! There was a movie called "The Picture of Dorian Gray". It was about a man who wanted eternal youth and got it, yet his portrait kept aging showing "all his sins". I can't help thinking that those who overdo plastic surgery are kind of like this, really unhappy on the inside. If only they had a portrait on their wall showing the real them.
As for me I'm ok with my aging. I'm a couple weeks younger than Madonna and although I haven't done a thing but moisturize and stay out of the sun, along with good eating and exercise, people usually think I'm about 15 years younger. I say it's because I'm immature for my age :)
It's all in how you take care of yourself inside and out and everybody knows that good or bad looking skin is all in our genes too! If you got it you got it, if you don.t you don't. I am 41 years young and very proud to say that I look like I am about 25, yes really!! In the morning I start out with a clean face, use oil of olay moisturizer, let my skin drink it then put on very little foundation with one of those makeup pads instead of using my hands. Did you know you should always keep your hands away from your face because there is alot of oil in them. I stay away from oil based foundations. Then a little powder to take away the shine. I put the rest of my makeup on and at night, always remove it. I use a gentle eye makeup remover and luke warm water and believe it or not, noxema!! then use the moisturizing cream agin at night. I have been doing this since I was 16 yrs old. No need to spend hundreds of dollars on expensive makeup and don't forget to use the microderbrasion kit by olay to scrub your face once or twice a week then after a while once a month. Your face will glow!! Drink lots of water too.
This is a good resource for our options to stay looking young. I am 53 years old and I believe and practice in availing myself of what is out there. I get botox shots every three months to lift my eyebrows a tad and remove the frown lines in between them. I had a midface lift 4 and lower eyelid fix four years ago. I gifted myself with a Fraxel peel last year. This year, I had a lower facelift to sharpen my jawline and remove the jowls in Jan 2009. My genes do not predispose me to wrinkle but they give me sagginess. The facelift took care of 90% of that since I cannot be looking like a 30 year old at this age. Still, I am always getting comments about how young I look. It did not come naturally! And I am not shy about sharing the procedures I have had with other women. My objective is to look my age, but not a haggardly uncompetitive woman.
To get the most out of my procedures, I do not smoke, eat a lot of fruits and veggies and nuts and drink water, and I use my treadmill at least twice a week. For my daily skin regimen, I wash my face and neck with Clinique foaming cleanser, I use Neutrogena toner, Neutrogena face lotion and Neutrogena and Clinique make-up products. I break a Vitamin E capsule and apply it with my moisturizer on my face. Every so often, I like to rotate products so I use Oil of Olay Total Effects, Regenerist and I use Oil of Olay basic lotion with SPF15 on my hands. I do this every three months.
I also use gadgets. I invested in a hand-held galvanic spa system and I use it twice a week. I use Aloe Vera as the gel for conductor. This process takes care of any inflammation and allows my lotion to penetrate deeply. I squirt lime or lemon juice in the water I drink to help get rid of inflammation and bloating from salt or from meds I am on. And most of all, I maintain, always, a positive outlook in life.
I am aging, yes, but I am a young person in spirit and in my looks, and that beats the alternative!
I think in an article like this,
one was looking for some tips which did not involve any surgery, however minor. What about giving some facial exercises, some skin hydraters, home treatments for reducing eye puffiness and other suggestions for controlling or slowing further age related signs.
My goodness..what is wrong with living long enough to look like you did? Since when does getting older make everyone look down on you?? As said before.. God gave us a life and if we were supposed to stay young and 'pretty'.. We would all die before old age set in.. Ah but we were given a life as long and happy as we want.. So enjoy each year.. I am 52 young years and love every moment of it.. I am a grandma and look it.. Apron and cookies and all that goodness.

One thing not mentioned here is why do women feel so desperate to look young? In a society where after a women turns 50 or even 40 they are usually involved in a divorce (not by choice) Men want a young woman beside them, it's brownie points for a man. Society has created this by excepting and rewarding this. Where does that leave a woman after divorce? Single grandma baking cookies or If you decide to date, if you're like me I look so bad and depressed looking in a mirror that I can't imagine going on a date, especially considering that the last date I went on was my high school prom. Are you going to feel good about yourself and feel like you look pretty going on a date looking like grandma that should be home baking cookies?
