Type I Herpes Transmission
Here is a question from a commenter on my earlier post about Herpes Myths:
Type 1 is increasingly a cause of new genital herpes infections. This is probably due to an increase in the practice of oral genital sex.
People who have cold sore virus, without or with symptoms, can transfer this virus from their mouth to the genitals of their partner by giving them oral sex. HSV 1 sheds from the mouth on about 18% of days that we look.
However, when that virus gets transferred to the genital area, it prefers this location less. In fact, HSV 1 genitally sheds on about 3-5% of days measured, vs. 15-20% of days measured for HSV 2 genital infection. And the recurrence rate is a lot less also.
The person who has HSV 1 genital infection may still want to disclose
this information to a partner, as the infection can be transmitted, though it is
not common for this to happen, through intercourse.
If the new partner is also HSV 1 positive, but has the infection orally (that is, they have a known history of cold sores), then they are unlikely to get the infection genitally, through sexual contact, as they have antibody that will likely (though not perfectly) protect them from getting the HSV 1 at a new location. The same is true for the person with the HSV 1 genital infection. They are unlikely to now get cold
sores from their partner who has oral infection. It should be noted, however,
that the person who has HSV 1 genital infection can still get a type 2 infection.

i was diagnosed with Type 1 HSV in the genital area. I have recently begun a new
relationship and I don't know how to broach the subject. Any help?

i haev a question, i have herpes and i was wondering if you can spread herpes to your eyes and if so how can you find out. also i was wondering if anything can happen to your eyes because of it.
I just learned that I have herpes I and herpes II. I asked my doctor how I would know if my partner infected me. My doctor's response was "there is no way of knowing who gave it to who first". My question is(Is there a way of finding out if I was infected by my partner), because I have been with my partner for 8 years and I have never had sex with another partner during our relationship.
Please reply to Bxupset. Thank you
If my husband is having a breakout on his buttocks and or back of the legs and I give him oral sex, is it possible that I might become infected with Herpes? He doesn't want to have intercourse with me during that time, but I'm not sure what the differnce is?? Could it cause other problems even in my throat? I'm equally concerned of what it could do since I am nursing my baby.
Many thanks!!

if a man who has 'blisters' has intercourse with a woman (who has already had herpes for 20+ years), how long does the virus [cells?] stay in the vagina? and if that same woman has sex with another man 15 hours later, will that partner most likely get herpes? and if someone is exposed to the virus, does that necessarily mean they get it? mainly, I'd like to know how often the vagina holds onto the virus cells and the likelihood of giving the virus to another 15 hours later? please reply to Debbie7167. Thanks.
My wife has been "exposed" to HSV-1.
I have HSV-1 orally and gentially.
a. can i give it to her orally by kissin her? Or, will she ultimately have an initial, primary outbreak?
b. can i give her HSV-1 genital herpes if she has been exposed -- either by by lips, orally, or through intercourse.
I guess the key is "What does being exposed mean"? She told me she was tested positive for HSV-1 but the results indicated she had been exposed.
Pls advise.
Um..I don't really understand herpes, but I think I have it. Do you get herpes only if you have sex or something? I don't get that part. I'm only 14 years old, and I don't have sex. But I somehow think I have herpes type 1 I think. I get cold sores a lot of the times. It kind of get swollen. It had been like that since I was about 5-7 years old, I think. So, do I really have Herpes?
I am planning to marry a women who has HSV-2. I see our relationship as being quite intimate and can not see myself avoiding genital herpes over the years and anticipate that I will contract HVS-2. I have sought advise on infecting myself with HSV-2 and getting on with our lives without the stress of thinking about it all the time. I was informed that infecting my mouth with HSV-2 would start the process of building antibodies that would possible prevent or reduce serevity of genital herpes. Does getting HSV-2 orally eventually build resistance to getting HSV-2 or HSV-1 genitally? Or could it in some way be beneficial.

I have oral HSV-1. I'd like to know if my partner were to perform oral sex on me while I'm having an outbreak, if that will increase the chance of that person to contract the virus? Also, once my oral sores heal, when would be a less risky time for my partner and I to kiss again? Finally, if my partner tested negative for the virus, and is there any over the counter medicine or precription available to help lessen or eliminate the risk of contracting HSV?
I was wondering if you can get Cold sores from having oral sex and the guy cums in your mouth?
If so are they harmful cold sores?
once about every 6-8 months i get on pimple bump on my vagina what could that be
I have some kind of bump on the inside of lips of my vaginal area and it bothers me when I sit, walk or anything it burned at first when I urinated but not anymore i don't think there is no discharged but I want to know what it my be my next appoitment won't be for another 2 weeks and I don't know if it is safe to have sex.
I am kinda confused. I get cold sores on my mouth every once in a while; I have since I was a little girl. Did I catch it from my mother? Is it herpes? Is it from having sex with someone who has it? And not to long ago, I gave my boyfriend oral sex and he had a breakout of a cold sore on his lip. Does that mean he has it now?
My girl friend has a cold sore on her lip and she gave me oral sex. Am I at risk of getting herpies or an STD???? Please respond ASAP, thank you.
I have just been diognised with genital herpes,i have been with my partner for 5 years and have not slept with no one else.
Does this mean my partner has cheated on me?
I am wondering if the questions are ever answered. There are some postings that others can learn from.

Terri answers questions on her Herpes message board as noted in the comments above yours.
I have just discovered a small pimple-like bump on the outer lip of my vagina. I was wondering if it was something to worry about. It is slightly delicate to touch (like other regular pimples found in normal places of my body), and there is no sign of it being puss filled or anyting similar. I was also wondering where i could possibly go in my local area to get tested for STD's.
When and where do i get a response to the question i have just posted?

For information about your specific situation, you can visit Terri's Message Board. Before you do that, it's probably a good idea to visit the Genital Herpes Guide and read through the information there.
To locate a clinic to be tested, visit this page, where you will find a toll-free telephone number for the CDC. You can call that number for referrals to clinics and other resources for STD testing.
I am a 17 year old female, who is sexually active. I have white puss filled pimple things, I have been researching vaginal acne and herpes, I'm not certain how to tell the difference between them. I dont want to ask my mother who is a devout Christian and would disown me for having premarital sex. I also shave my pubic area so could it be a possibility that these pimples are just irritation?
I have red, itchy bumps inside my outer lips that won't go away with over the counter creams. Could this be an infection or something more serious?
Everytime that i come on my period i get some bumps on my vagina at lease 3 of them, i am wondering if its a disease or just something that happen to my body.
I have been diagnosed with herpes 1, I wanted to know if I have sex with my partner can I give him herpes 2 by having herpes 1?
i'm 17 years old and i dont no if i have herpies... i'm really confused i've only had sex once in my life and i've been getting zit like things on my vagina since i was about 12... can you get zits on your vagina? i only get them once in a great while usualy when i'm play a really dirty sport or camping when i dont shower regularly. so i'm not sure what it is and i only get 1 or 2 swollen places...
So I was wondering if there is a way to test for (HSV-1) Herpes Symplex Type 1? Also if my partner HAS oral herpes, is it possible to contract genital herpes from oral sex?
I gave oral sex to my finance about a month ago and now i am noticing that i have a sore throat, it doesn't feel sore its just there, i went to the doctor and they told me that i did not have herpes i am wondering what do i have, I am so nervous that i cannot eat Please help!!!
Seems as if every time I shave my vagina I get a bump or two they always itch, look like masquito bites and burn (because i itch them). I dont think I have herpes, but im not sure. One time these sores had pus in them. I get only one or two in the same area, not all over and they last three days maybe four and then I am healed. Help me please, im scared to find out if i have an std or not.
I have a small herpes outbreak on my lip, and I have been using treatment for it all day. I was kissing my girlfriend, and then later she gave me oral sex. I have hsv-1 oral herpes, and I am curious as to whether the fact that I kissed her, and she gave me oral sex means I'll get genital herpes as well?
PLEASE ANSWER THANKS
