Your kids and global warming
Dr. P's favorite quote of the week
"Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see."

Dr. P comments
It's official: 2005 was the warmest year on record. And in Boston, where I live, January (the warmest January on record, of course) has been positively spooky with its balmy 60 degree days.
I'm real worried about the world we are leaving for our "living messages". Global warming seems pretty certain at this point and there comes a point where not addressing it becomes a criminal offence.
Got kids? Parents can and should be a powerful force in advocating that we start now to fix this potentially catastrophic problem, so our kids don't come to curse us when we are gone for our selfish lack of foresight and care for the planet.

Doc,
I appreciate your comments on child rearing issues, but please stick to what you know!

Good point! Good thing Michael Crichton did that.
Doc,
Do you treat children who Mothers took Lamictal while pregnant?? I'm a concerned Mom looking for info for my pregnant daughter--
Thanks-
Edie
Doc,
Really glad to hear you raise this issue. I'm a parent. I'm worried about global warming more or less because I am a parent. As a non-hysterical, relatively technically accessible web resource that knows that global warming is real can I recommend Real Climate?
Ya, and the Michael Crichton thing isn't taken too seriously by most climate scientists.
doc,
is it ok for baby to drink pedialyte even if your baby is not having diarhea?
To all of you who have specific medical questions:
Dr. Parker is on vacation until next week. However, there are many dedicated regulars on his message board who might help. You might also try a WebMD search on your question to get information from our medical library and other resources.
Thank you.
My 3 year old daughter has had large painful lymph nodes now for almost two weeks. She was given antibiotics by an ER doctor and had a follow up with a pediatrician. The lymph node on the left side of her neck is bigger and harder than it was. Is it normal for them to get larger while on antibiotics? She also has developed a flemmy cough, and has been a bit conjested in her nose. What are your thoughts?
Honestly, Dr. Parker, is anybody moderating this forum?
To the subject at hand, I could not disagree with you more about raising global warming to the level of 'something parents qua parents should worry about.
If we assume for the sake of argument that the pessimist are correct, and the planet is indeed in trouble, the bad outcome is predicted to occur thousands if not millions of years from now.
With all the immediate worries the parents in my practice face, why add this one? Why not let them worry that the sun will one day swallow up the earth when it becomes a red giant star?
On the other hand, if your goal is to create political advocacy around the issue, you're on the right track. At least be honest about it.
best,
Flea
my 5 month old baby cant get rid of his cough. even after antibiotics, what can i do to help him get rid of his cough?
