It's Iced Tea Time! My Favorite Two Iced Teas
There's nothing like a glass of ice cold (flavored) Iced Tea on a hot summer afternoon or evening. Granted it takes a bit of a time investment to boil water then steep your iced tea bag in your glass pitcher, but we are only talking about a few minutes here! Well worth the effort. You can save yourself a few dollars per glass (that's what it will cost you to order iced tea in a restaurant. And, if you have a glass of no calorie iced tea waiting for you, you might pass up another beverage that has sugar or artificial sweeteners.
Then there are the potential health benefits of tea too! Green and black teas contain phytochemicals (flavonols and catechins) thought to have health benefits. Most of the studies suggesting cancer-protective effects of tea have been carried out with green tea, but black tea may also have some protective qualities just possibly less than
green tea.
Antioxidants make up a third of the weight of dried tea leaves. And one of these antioxidants is called EGCG, the main catechin phytochemical in tea, which was shown to slow the build up of artery clogging plaque in mice in a recent study.
TEA TIP
When it comes to the phytochemicals in tea, freshly brewed is best! Apparently bottled teas have less of these phytochemicals than freshly brewed tea.
All that being said, I've been on the lookout for some fun and flavorful iced teas and I've found two I want to tell you about.
* Brand: Republic of Tea
Type: Man Kind Tea (blueberry green tea)
Description: This is green tea infused with blueberry. It comes in a 2.65-ounce tin and here's the best part - A donation of $.75 per can is donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
* Brand: Peet's Tea

It comes in a 3.2-ounce box.
Let us know if you have an iced tea that you think is awesome too!

What about 'sun' tea??
I make tea without boiling the water so it gets cold faster. It's delicous, but am I missing out on any phytochemicals by not using boiling water?
I am making black iced tea and drink it in big glasses with fresh lemon juice squeezed into it, which should add to the great benefits of the iced tea.
When I'm ready for a change I buy dried Hibiscus flowers by the pound at my local Mexican store, and make it just like the iced black tea. The Mexican lady at the store also swears by its great health benefits. I like the flavor very much, and the fact that it has no caffeine.
Try making your tea in a coffee maker ( Black or Green Tea ) useing a little cinnamon & cloves in the black tea and just the cloves in the green tea make sure to use a coffee filter when doing this
Thanks for pointing out the phytochemicals and the anti-oxidant substance in green teas...as you have pointed out, as we begin to understand these phytochemicals better, we are beginning also to understand their powerful health benefits...
I however feel we have only scratched the surface in terms of our understanding of the health benefits of these plant chemicals...I wish more research dollars get spent on these instead of on the synthetic drugs that litter our stores today

I make tea daily by the gallon....
using several decaf flavor types,
so many good ones like blueberry,
mango.......for a gallon I use about 5-6 bags plus 3 or so big regular tea bags.......like it strong. Sweeten w/ splenda, optional. To cool quicker, either make 3/4 pot w just boiling
water then add ice. Or chill in frige, make sure not to sit anything warm next to your dairy,
I try to arrange something else next to the tea. Try many flavors til you find those you like, I don't care for "all" but most.
Also, I believe "pot likker" from cooked greens is similar to tea in health benefits. Our foremothers knew best even w/o the research!
e-z to make: 'russian tea' make tea as usual, add 'tang powdered drink mix', allspice & blend. try various amounts of ingredients 'til you find your own fave of taste!
WHEN COOKING TEA PUT A PINCH OF BAKING SODA IN IT , IT TAKES AWAY THE BITTER TASTE
Tea of Life (Pomegranate)
'Red Tea Series'
..and I quote
" A cup of tea is a cup of life"
This tea is so smooth you won't need the baking soda. Health wise an excellent choice (do your homework). Hot or cold so refreshing, make you lick your lips each time you sip. So go ahead and sip some years into your life.
