Taste Test Tuesday: Activia Yogurt
AddThis Social Bookmark Button

I just noticed this new yogurt by Dannon with the probiotic culture Bifidus Regularis.

This yogurt line advertises that it is clinically proven to naturally help regulate your digestive system. The good bacteria (bifidus regularis) seem to encourage fully functioning intestines. I can tell you from personal experience that it may also help you if you tend to have faster intestines (or suffer from the diarrhea predominant type of IBS).

Activia comes in a variety of flavors: vanilla, mixed berry, peach, strawberry and blueberry.

First five ingredients (for the strawberry flavor): cultured grade A reduced
fat milk, strawberry, fructose syrup, sugar, modified cornstarch.

1 (4 ounce) container contains: 110 calories, 2 g fat, 1 g saturated fat, 5
mg cholesterol, 75 mg sodium, 19 g carbohydrate, 0 g fiber, 17 g sugars, 5 g
protein, 15% Daily Value for calcium

How Did It Taste?
So far I've tried the Strawberry and Blueberry flavors and they both tasted great. The product is a bit high in sugar for a mere 4 ounce serving though, but at least the first two ingredients are milk and fruit. My favorite thing to do is enjoy the 4 ounce serving with a tablespoon of ground flaxseed.

It works. I too, have suffered with chronic constipation even with a diet high in fruit and veggies, whole grains, and almost no meat. By day three I was feeling better than I have for months.

This actually made my IBS worse. Every time I have tried this product, I have worse symptoms then if I not eaten anything.

Activia is the greatest. I can't thank Danon enough. I had started feeling sluggish, like a garbage disposal that needed to be emptied out. And then I saw the Dannon Activia commercial and I tried it and found out that it really worked. Again, Thanks Dannon! Now I'm about to try your product that helps with the immune system. I hope it's just as effective. Keep up the good work!!!!! Vickie

All yogurt does for me is to give me gas from vagina. ( It sounds strange. It's a wind that comers fom vagina. Feel weird too.)

I have IBS with diarrhea, so desperately for some relief, tried the Dannon (and the 'Store Brand' with the bifidus cultures) and it DOES work!
So, I decided to try taking just a culture pill, Acidophilus w/ Bifudus, and they work like a charm too!!!
One in the morning before breakfast (gotta take it on an empty stomach), and I'm great all day!
Rarely need another, or Pepto!

*If the yogurt is giving you diarrhea, then you might be Lactose Intolerant; although most L.I. people CAN eat yogurt w/o problems.

A response to the comment asking about the difference between Live Active Cultures and Bifidus...
The live active cultures are great for helping to prevent yeast infections, and the bifidus is good for your digestive tract.

*"wind from your vagina?* sounds like the cultures working for preventing yeast infections too. You can actually do a sort of 'yogurt douche' for yeast infections.

Hi I have suffered from IBS for a while I was having extreme pain in my stomach and felt bloated especially after pasta. I went to the doctor who tried me on different IBS remedies of which none seemed to work. It was in fact my doctor who recommended I try Activia and I havn't looked back since. It literally starts to work after about 3 day and all the pain and bloating has gone.

Please note that Bifidus regularis is a marketing name, not the scientific name.

"Bifidus Regularis™ is the marketing name of the natural probiotic culture in Activia® and Activia Light that has been clinically proven to survive passage through the digestive system, arriving into the large intestine as a live culture. Activia® and Activia Light with Bifidus Regularis™ are proven to help with slow intestinal transit. The scientific name of the Bifidus Regularis is Bifidobacterium animalis DN-173 010."
