Green Tea Soda That Helps Burn Calories?
AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Move over diet cola because carbonated green tea is in town. The name is Enviga and it comes in three flavors each with 90 milligrams of the green tea antioxidant EGCG and 100 milligrams of caffeine per 12 ounce can. The company also lists "natural plant micronutrients" and claims that drinking three cans of Enviga a day burns 60 to 100 calories.

Caffeine is a mild central nervous system stimulant and has been known to increase metabolism slightly, as most stimulants do. And while the research suggesting EGCG extract promotes weight loss is encouraging, more research needs to be done, particularly on the Enviga beverage itself. You should also be aware that the drink is sweetened with aspartame and Sunette (acesulfame potassium).

Is this the obesity cure America is waiting for? No. But if it replaces regular sugar sodas and sweetened bottled tea, it probably will help matters along. Keep in mind though that if you are already a big coffee drinker, each Enviga adds 100 milligrams of caffeine and 300 mg a day of caffeine is the amount of caffeine considered to be safe and moderate.

I discovered Enviga at my college and I really enjoy it. I prefer the berry and peach flavors over the orginal green tea flavor though. There is something about the original that isn't pleasing to me. Also, if you're a regular soda drinker its a much healthier choice. For me however, I only drink diet sodas so it gives me an extra 5 calories. Not sure about the whole burns 60 calories statement though. It sure hasn't helped me keep off the freshman fifteen!!!

I am wondering if Enviga will blanch bones as they claim diet cola will. I really want to know because I have lost some bone density in my hip area. Thanks

I dkink 60z of red roobios tea every day, it is even better than green tea. I think its a bad idea to make green tea into a soft drink, especially with the high amount of caffeine and sodim in this new drink. Just another marketing gimmick, and its a shame because some will drink three or four a day and that will effect them negatively. Buy red or green tea in the tea bags and brew yourself and excellent healthy drink(red tea is caffeine free too.

Any carbonated beverage is just bad for you, especially if you are trying to lost weight. I know of people who dropped 15 pounds just by cutting out all carbonated beverages...that includes diet sodas..and I guess this green tea soda stuff. You might as well keep drinking diet sodas.

Carbonated beverages bad for you? What about Perrier or other waters that are also carbonated naturally?

I just discovered Enviga a few days ago at my local AM/PM. The berry flavor is definitely the best one of the three. I think if you are going to have something sweet and caffeinated, than this stuff is for sure better for you than diet soda. I wish I could be a green tea drinker, but I just don't like it! This is a good alternative for me. :)

hgtgkiarNOMAD64 All of this carbonated beverage seems to be an excellent way to get KIDS to, perhaps, change their drinking habits, however, as adults, do we have the need to spend the time. Having come from a line of longevity, I prefer to stay with the real drinks of H2O, tea - green or black, coffee and wine. An occaisional alcholic beverage other than wine shouldn't be a problem. My all time favorite is skim milk.

I have tried it three times, for some reason it instantly makes me sick to my stomach. I have hurled twice. Not sure why.

Even if it burns 60-100 calories, it does so after you've had three cans in a day. It's pretty much useless. Why not just jog for ten minutes? Or talk a brisk walk for twenty minutes? If anything, you should just have green tea. It'll definitely be a better alternative to Enviga.

In response to why "carbonated beverages" are bad for you: Very simply, they are too "acidic"...that means minerals, such as potassium, calcium and magnesium, are leached from your bones to neutralize this acid. BAD!! Yes, even "natural" carbonated beverages such as mineral water are bad if you drink too often. All are too acidic....and since our sugary, flours, and even meats and dairy create acid overload as is (hence arthritis, insulin/blood sugar problems, osteoporosis, etc), it behooves us to keep our bodies more toward "ALKALINE"....eat more vegies and low sugar fruits, such as blueberries folks!
