Frugal Friday: Two Cups of Green Tea for the Price of One!
Get the most from your green tea bag. I love my exotically flavored green tea bags and I pay about 8 dollars for a box of 20 tea bags. My current favorite is the "Tropical Green" flavor from Harney & Sons. It has a wonderful exotic flavor with an influence of pineapple.
Lately I've been getting 40 cups of tea instead of 20 for my 8-dollar investment by making my hot cup of tea (I steep it for about 1 to 2 minutes). Then I pour another cup of boiling water into a second mug and let the same bag steep for about 30 minutes. Later that day or the next, I add some ice and enjoy a nice glass of iced green tea.
It should work well with flavored black and white tea bags as well; you just need to find the right amount of time to steep the first and second cup so you get the flavor you want.
This saves me about $12 a month since I drink about 2 cups of green tea a day!

Even if you buy the most expensive green tea on earth...it's still a lot cheaper...and healthier than daily trips to Starbucks...or Peets here in San Francisco
hey guess what.. the best thing to buy green tea at a cheap price is only on the hill station where tea cultivation is favorable... and this is my idea...

We buy a large bag of loose green or black tea. We then add a filter to our Bunn coffee pot and add about 1/3 - 1/4 cup of tea leaves. Add 7-8 cups of water and brew. Save the tea leaves and you can make about 3 to 4 more batches. We too have a cup of hot tea and put the rest in a glass in the refrig, add ice and have ice tea at the next meal. Don
I make my tea in my 4 cup coffee maker. One tea bag makes a very good 4 cups. I put the tea bag in the pot and let the water drip into it.
That IS a way to save $$ ... and if you want to maximize the health benefits of green tea, consider what Dr. Steven Pratt MD author of Superfoods suggests: make a cup of tea with 2 green tea bags, steep a couple minutes, squeeze out the bags into the cup to get every good thing out of the tea and then if it's too strong for you drink with some milk or soymilk and a bit of honey. He even opens the tea bags and rubs the tea leaves on the areas around his eyes and in the crease from his nose to mouth, the two areas on the face that are most prone to skin cancer and can benefit the most from the cancer fighting benefits of the tea leaves.
