Taste Test Tuesday: Ronzoni Healthy Harvest Whole Wheat Blend Pasta

Another higher fiber pasta to choose from!

Ronzoni has gotten into the higher fiber pasta business with a new line of whole-wheat blend pasta. Each serving (2 ounces dry) contributes an impressive 6 grams of fiber. And that's not the only nutritional benefit...the second ingredient in the ingredient list is flaxseed meal, which is where the 360 milligrams of omega-3s (per serving) are coming from.

The first ingredient is durum whole-wheat flour and semolina blend, and the third is wheat fiber.

How did it taste? I tried the Penne Rigate shaped pasta and it definitely tasted like it had more fiber than regular pasta but it was still tender and tasty enough to pass muster with the family. I use whole-wheat blend pasta exclusively now because the health benefits attributed to eating more whole grains is impressive and unmistakable.

Here is the nutrition information for a serving of the Penne Rigate pasta (2 ounces dry):
180 calories
7 g protein
41 g carbohydrate
2 g fat
6 g fiber
0 mg sodium

Hi, I haven't tried Ronzoni pasta in a very long time, because they used to make (and still make?) pasta that couldn't ever become al dente. I guess they used the wrong kind of flour, but if you write that now they use durum wheat flour maybe they might be worth another try.But why bother? there are excellent pastas with durum wheat AND whole wheat flour, like De Cecco and Del Verde, which are Italy's best pastas. I like Dreamfields myself.
I am diabetic and it isn't as bad for my blood sugars. Several other friends that are diabetic use it as well. We all use it for our families and nobody knows the difference.

It only has 5 digestible carbs for a serving and twice the fiber.

They have a website and also have a $1.00 off coupon.

I'm sticking with that! :-)

I've tried Ronzoni,I don't care for it.But because I knew I had to make a chance I tried the others brands.I tried to get the coupone offered by Dreamfield, right. Not only are you expected to answer a lot of questions, but then you had to download THEIR printing program. No thanks,my system has it's own program, and I can print coupons from other companies web sites without the hastle. And, both Ronzoni and Dreamfields are quite pricy,2.09-2.39 for a 12 oz(not even 16ozs)of angel hair.

I found Heartland is the best (for me).Cooks up very nicely, and the taste is yum-O!It goes well with EVERYTHING! I love angel hair and broccoli slaw.

Antonio, thank you for the tip on De Cecco and Del Verde,I will definately give them both a try.

Healthy eating,
Bobbi
