Taste Test Tuesday: Nate's Taquitos (100% Vegetarian)
They taste like they have chicken in them but the box says they are 100% vegetarian...Vegetarian Taquitos aren't exactly an appetizing thought to most carnivores but these frozen appetizers definitely taste better than they sound.
Each serving of 3 taquitos contain 230 calories, 8 grams of fat, .5 gram saturated fat (0 trans fat), 10 g protein, 29 g carbohydrate, 3 grams fiber, 430 mg sodium.
So if they aren't made with chicken, what's in them? Besides the corn tortilla, the top 3 ingredients are salsa Verde, textured wheat protein, and soy cheese.
If this "chicken style" taquito doesn't grab you, Nate's also makes a "beef style" taquito, along with a more straightforward black bean & soy cheese taquito. Haven't tried these yet but I wouldn't hesitate to give them a whirl since the chicken style ones were pretty darn tasty.

These recipes are just silly. Vegetarians do not like the taste or texture of chicken or beef or any other part of any dead body, so why make items such as this?
Some of us have grown up on meat products, but as adults have made the decision to reduce or eliminate their use. Those of us in this situation appreciate these types of recipes. Thank you for creating meat-free meals that can be enjoyed by people like me!
Vegetarians need to get over themselves.
Carrots are dead bodies, as are parsnips etc. Is it conveniencec taste preference or simple arrogance that makes them consider the consumption of animals the only aggressive act involved in eating?
Why such weird comments toward vegetarians? I, myself, am not a veggie head but respect the people who make that decision. I have, however, come across some of the snotty veggie type and have to say why do some vegetarians believe it's an us against the world lifestyle?
The comment about carrots being dead bodies is just one of the ignorant comments vegetarians are used to getting from meat eaters. Plants do not have a nervous system - they do not feel the pain, fear, etc. that animals feel before and during their slaughter. That is simple science. It is also simple science that a vegetarian diet is among the healthiest for people. If you have to defend your eating habits by comparing eating a carrot to eating flesh, to me that just proves that you know, deep down, that it is wrong. Otherwise you would not have to reach so far for such a ridiculous argument.
