Taste Test Tuesday: Kellogg's Fiber Plus Antioxidants Bars
Chocolate Chip Chewy Bars
There's a new granola-type bar on the supermarket shelf! And this one gives you 35% of your daily fiber (or so the package says). It looks like a candy bar, it almost tastes like a candy bar... is it a candy bar with fiber?
Well, let's look at the first 5 ingredients:
While the first few ingredients are more like a cereal, the last two are more like a candy bar. Put it all together and you've got a chewy bar with 23% calories from sugar and 30% calories from fat. Each 120-calorie bar also contributes 9 grams of fiber, 10% Daily Value for calcium, 20% Daily Value for vitamin E and zinc.
Here's the nutritional information per bar:

Another example of the food industry trying to fool the public by putting a "healthy" label on junk food. Antioxidants have become the dietary buzz-word for 2009.
This has been real difficult trying to find a place to eamail Elaine McGee. The link "email Elaine" does not work. My question is about BHT in cereals. I have been eating 1 and 1/2 cups of Cheerios at night to reduce my cholesterol and hopefully my blood pressure. However Cheerios has become quite expensive so I have been substituting 1 cup of generic Toasted Oats (has BHT) and 1/2 cup of Cheerios to cut costs. Will this work or should I stay with Cheerios? My weight is good 150, 5'5", Cholesterol three months ago was 209 blood pressure is above 140 in the morning but below 130 often below 120 at night.
I couldn't eat this for breakfast, but I have been trying to add more fiber, and these are delicious!
I tried those and they actually made me feel sick! I have no idea why, but I'm definitely never buying them again.
