September is Pain Awareness Month
AddThis Social Bookmark Button

September is "Pain Awareness Month". Several pain organizations are hosting conferences designed to assist health care professionals in learning more about pain and its management. The American Society of Pain Educators held Pain Week 2007 in Las Vegas. I was very fortunate to be able to attend. While there I earned close to 30 contact hours of continuing education. The days were lengthy and intense, but well worth it. I had the opportunity to learn from some of the most prestigious experts in the field of pain.

During the conference, the American Society of Pain Educators celebrated its third year! It is exciting to see an organization of just a few members grow so fast and achieve as much as this society has. Pain Week 2007 was celebrated and attended by close to 750 health care professionals - doubling the organization's expectations! To catch a glimpse of some of their achievements and learn more about this important organization, take a look at their website at http://www.paineducators.org/.

I'm having bad headaches for about 3 months - have seen many doctors, everything comes back normal with MRI's and catscans and blood tests. But i had been diagnosed with migraine aura and pseudotumor cerebri by two different doctors. However my vision keeps going out on me for 10-30 secs at a time where i am unable to see anything with my eyes open. I've read somewhere that this could be a miss diagnosis and that it could possibly be an onset of some thing worse. I do not know where to turn or where to seek more testing from. Advice on the subject or answers would be very helpful - these headaches were nonexsistance until 3 months ago along with the black outs that occur almost daily if not many times a day, and ive never had headaches or migraines before this. I was diagnosed with Pseudotumor back in the beginning of March. I have since signed up with the Intercranial Research foundation in Oregon. They have been such a huge help in helping me to understand this disease. I can only tell you this, the only real way to be positively diagnosed is through a spinal tap. In doing this, they will gauge the pressure of the spinal fluid and will then be able to set you up with a specialist that can help you to get on the right medication. Dont wait around for this. There is a chance for blindness, and you dont want that. Email me if you have any other questions amy_herriges@yahoo.com.
