My name is Tracy, and I am a mom. It is the most important job I have had or will ever have. Being a parent comes with no salary, paid vacations, or sick days, but the other perks (in the form of hugs and kisses, unconditional love, wonder and pride for my amazing 10-year-old daughter, etc.) make up the most rewarding compensation package.
In addition to being a parent, I also have a career. I am not a doctor or a nutritionist, a fitness expert or a psychologist. I am a writer. I write a blog, this blog, with my friend Hansa, who actually IS a pediatrician and also a mom. (She’ll be posting here tomorrow.)
I often feel it would be extremely helpful if I were an expert, but there is no degree that will make you knowledgeable in all things “kid.” I do what most of us do: I hit the Internet to look for relevant information, and I talk to my friends.
You know what they say when it comes to your friends — that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. As it turns out, this is true. My closest and most trusted friends are a source of inspiration and motivation for me to try new things as a parent.
It seems to me that we are all trying to do the best we can at this job of parenting by sharing knowledge, which Hansa and I are finding all over the Internet, from news sites, medical research, and insightful parenting blogs.
That’s really the inspiration for Fit4Families. Bringing together parents and caregivers trying to raise healthy, happy kids in an unhealthy world, and encouraging each other.
We are so excited to start this discussion! What you’ll find here are articles and posts that will help you and your family get active, eat right, and be well! We hope to get to know you, have some great discussions here, and learn what inspires you to share a healthy, active lifestyle with your kids.
On behalf of Hansa and myself, welcome to Fit4Families: news, inspiration, and real talk from parents Raising Fit Kids.
