The Mother of All Photo Opportunities
One of my favorite photographs of myself is a photo that was taken when I was about 8 1/2 months pregnant with my second child. My firstborn (who was 1 1/2 years old at the time) was perched on my belly with her head on my shoulder. In the photo, I'm standing in front of a huge window. The sun is streaming in and my daughter and I show up in the photo as dark silhouettes against the impossibly bright window.
I love that photo because it captures a time in my life that was seemed to last forever (9 1/2 months! 40 weeks!), but that really lasted for but a moment. And yet I will always have that photo to remind me of that particular pregnancy, when I was waiting for the birth of baby number two.
Pregnancy photography can help a pregnant woman to celebrate the physical changes that occur during pregnancy. Pregnancy photographer Christine Luksza-Paravicini makes this point in the artist statement on her blog:
I feel that I have just started to scratch the surface of defining all the ways in which we can view pregnancy and the female figure. As I continue my exploration, I hope to reveal the beauty, strangeness, and fleshiness of gestation and its effect on the body. Last, I want us to look carefully at who we are. I want us to see the imperfection and the true wonder of our bodies. It is my hope that these images will be refreshing in contrast to the constant media barrage of the "perfect" (and non-pregnant) female figure. And perhaps, after seeing more real bodies so intimately, we might be a little more forgiving of each other and ourselves.

A friend of mine is now five months pregnant and her breast has started leaking a clear liquid. This has been going on for a week now and she is really worried. Is this normal??
Hi there,
For answers to questions, try a visit to our Pregnancy Message Board. If she is really worried, a call to her doctor might help allay her concerns, too.
Congratulations to her, and wishes for a healthy pregnancy.
