Expensive Beds -- Are They Worth the Money?
Let's talk about bed prices!
A recent article in The MercuryNews.com showed that there are now some beds that are north of $50,000 in price (the Vividus bed launched last year by the Swedish manufacturer Hastens).
"What could you possibly get for that?", you may ask. Personally, I cannot imagine -- unless you get a sleep specialist who comes and tucks you in every night!!!
This is just another attempt at creating the Ferrari of beds with little to no research. We are starting to see more high end beds popping up, and they can be made of everything from latex, flax, memory foam, silk, cashmere, lambswool or hand-tufted horse hair. (All of which are included in the Vividus.)
Don't get me wrong, I am all for spending a good bit on a bed. If you figure that it should last between 7-10 years at 365 days, a $3650.00 bed over 10 years will only cost you a buck a day! But what I want people to think about is what are they really getting for their money.
If you are getting a "spring", a.k.a. intercoil mattress, you may in fact be sleeping on dated technology. There are now many alternative surfaces for sleep, but there is no data to help us determine what's "best" either way. The bed that's right for you is the one that helps you sleep well, and that could be a traditional coil mattress or maybe even a stone bed. (Ouch!)
Personally, I like several of the newer surfaces such as the Tempur-Pedic, Select Comfort (a.k.a. The Sleep Number Bed), Kingsdown, and some of the Latex brands. These all have interesting features from a hypoallergenic situation (The HealthSmart by Simmons) to beds you have complete control over (Select Comfort) to those that will mold themselves to you (a la Tempur-Pedic and Latex versions) .
Frustratingly, the correct choice for you is all in the sleep -- so you may have to wait until you get home and "sleep on it" for several days, if not weeks, before you know if you made the correct investment.
For more guidance on how to test out and choose a mattress in the store, take a look at my book, Good Night -- I devote several pages to a step-by-step mattress buying guide.

Waterbeds were all the rage in the 1970's. I, myself, never could sleep on one without becoming sick from the motion, as if being on a ship. I like the tempra-pedic.
We have a waterbed and my wife and I never want to sleep on anything else. We love it! Though many people consider water/floatation beds "old school", we're still not sure why. To date, waterbeds are still the softest and most relaxing beds I've ever slept on. I'm 37, and have been sleeping on one since high school (no, not the same one!).
I bought a TempurPedic with all the whistles and bells. One thing I was not aware of is that it traps in body heat. I regularly wake up sweating while being covered in only a sheet. If you're a hot-natured person as I am, I would not recommend this expensive sleep option.
Thanks for posting your comment, we were thinking about buying tempurpedic, but now I am not sure. I think I need to do more research on this. I have a problem of backache, if anybody has any suggestion for me?...
For anyone with aches and pains, I highly recommend the Select Comfort Sleep Number bed. You can believe all of the hype...it's the best bed I've ever slept on. In the past, even when I wanted to sleep more, back pain would wake me up in the morning. I haven't experienced that since switching to a Sleep Number bed. And, I recommend paying the extra charge for the pillow top.
We have a Tempra-pedic that is adjustable because of Acid Reflux. It is gret-we sleep soundly-do get up atnight-but go right back to
sleep. We have not had the heat problem. The special matress cover that was sold to us when we bought the mattress takes care of that problem.
I have a sealy posure-pedic bed and I have had a good night's sleep since purchasing it. Beforehand I would toss and turn and was constantly getting annoyed with snoring and other noises. Now all of that doesn't even matter because I sleep like a baby!
I personally like the "pillow top " mattresses. I sleep better now that I have one.
One thing..buyer beware, I discovered that mattress prices for the same mattress vary GREATLY. The best prices are at furniture stores, forget those "mattress discounters" or Mattreess Giant " stores,,they are a RIP OFF.
I have a bad back a bought a sleep # bed...I would never buy another. I have been up and down the sleep # scale and have had absolutly no success. My Wife absolutly hates it to. Do NOT buy one.
I have the Tempra-pedic. Its great if I only sleep on my back. However if I sleep on my side I get horrible back pain.
I, too, highly reccomend the Select Comfort mattresses. In my late thirties, I began early menopause. Before we purchased the Slect Comfort mattress, I would wake up in the morning with stiff joints and barely be able to walk down the stairs. I hadn't realized that my sleep had also been affected until sweet releif arrived! The first night on the Selct Comformt mattress was incredible! I slept deeply and soundly. I awoke the next morning feeling well rested. And, my body did not feel any aches or stiffness. Yes. I highly reccomend the "sleep-by-number" system!
We have been sleeping on a Tempurpedic for a couple of years and absolutely love it. The worst thing about traveling now is sleeping on a regular bed.
My vote goes with the Sleep by Number Bed (Select Comfort). My husband had chronic back pain, and I would wake up several times a night with shoulder and hip pain. Once we got the Select Comfort, I have had no more restless nights with joint pain, and my husband's back no longer hurts. We adjust each of our own sides depending on what aches and pains we have.
My husband and I purchased the TempurPedic (not the most expensive, but the next model down) and we absolutely LOVE it! I was pretty leary about spending that much money, but he talked me into it. I have to say it is the most comfortable sleep that we have ever experienced. I am a stomach sleeper and my husband is a side or back sleeper - no problems. We even got the matching king pillows as part of our purchase. We have not experienced any heat issues, and we are both very "warm bodies". One of the greatest things is either one of us can get up in the middle of the night and the other one does not feel a thing!
My husband made our waterbed frame over 30 years ago. Needless to say we have put more than one mattress in it but we both agree it's the only way to get a good nights sleep. And we have tried the others, but always go back to the waterbed.
We've had a Select Comfort "sleep number" bed for a couple of years now. It is absolutely the best.
If I need a bit firmer setting due to straining my back at work - Voila! it's there. Softer and more snuggly - presto - it's there!
I had neck problems for years and years and this bed has virtually made it disappear. Yes - spend a little extra and get a pillow top.
With their expected life span they are well worth the $$.
We bought a Sleep Number bed last summer. For the first time in 10+ years I did NOT have knee pain! I REALLY like the bed, my husband doesn't as much. I miss waterbeds, but don't miss the bubbles.
I have tried several different mattresses (traditional coil, air, water, memory foam) and hate them all. Currently, I have a Craftmatic bed with a custom-made mattress (coil with lots of padding & memory foam). It's better, but not good. I fantasize that some day, someone will invent an anti-gravity bed, or maybe some kind of scuba device that will enable me to sleep suspended in water.
For those who want to try out the Sleep by Number beds before buying one, most Radisson Hotels now have them.
We had a waterbed - the kind that used 7 log type baffles. I liked it, but my husband thought we need a sleep number mattress. I can't sleep on it. No matter what # I put it on, I am not comfortable. I can sleep on my Lazy Boy recliner more comfortable and my hip does not pain me. Go Figure
Got a Tempur-Pedic deluxe (extra layers than the classic) over 2 years ago and it's flawless. It took about one week to really get used to it. There's no bounce, you can fall onto it and it just envelopes you.
I had lower back pain and it subsided greatly and rarely flares up (most likely due to office chair, but that's been corrected by a Herman Miller desk chair) after adjusting to the bed.
I also sleep soundly and usually fall asleep within 5 minutes.
The heat issue may be true for some; you definitely do not need excessive blankets, and some people may only need a thin top sheet. The memory foam materla acts as an insulator so if you tend to sleep warm, you might only want a thin sheet.
It does not need to be flipped like a coil mattress; it retains it's perfect shape no matter what. Making the bed is a snap because the shape of the tempur mattress is perfectly clean, which makes the bed excellent for creating a perfectly made bed.
I really can't think of any drawbacks. Ordering direct from the company will save you shipping costs. and often include 2 free tempur pillows and allow you a 120 day trial.
My husband and I have slept on a a deep pocket inner-spring mattress with a visco foam pillow top attached at the top (ours is double-sided) for about 3 years. It has alleviated the lower back stiffness I've had for several years which I attribute to our former mattress (typical firm style). I love the visco foam top, but it does radiate heat, which is great during winter, but less during summer. Although it hasn't kept me from sleeping!
I just bought a King Matteress Euro Top, not delivered yet. Does any have a comment on this?
I have been sleeping on a memory foam mattress for 2 years. It sags in the middle, and I feel like I am always rolling into the middle. I am not happy for the amount of $ we paid.
I sleep on a pillow top coil mattress with a 4 inch memory foam pad and I sleep better then ever before. I like the water beds but this seems better for my back pains. Yes I too wish someone would invent a gravity free bed
I have had a Craftmatic bed for over 2 years. The only thing I like about it is being able to sleep with my head elevated. The remote doesn't work anymore to lower the foot of the bed. The wave doesn't work anymore. I have to buy expensive special sized sheets. I paid $5,000.00 for this bed and am sorry I ever bought it. This is my way of warning people not to buy them. The sales lady who came to our house was very good and I fell for her lies.
i had sleep number bed for many years, didnt help my aches, bought an inexpense no. 3 foam, put over the sleep number and feel great, saved me buyer new mattress temper pedic is a no. 6 in weight too hard for me,
I have been sleeping on a King size Aerobed for 6 years. Have no need to change and love the comfort. Have not tried any expensive beds but found no need. I had to replace it last year because the original one started leaking. Bought the latest version with 2 pumps which control the pressure individually on either side. Picked it up on Ebay for $116.00
My husband and I love our latex bed that we have had for five years. Dust mites cannot live in latex!! Also, air circulates through the holes in the latex. Only $2,200!
We have had a Select Comfort bed for a couple of years now. We love it. I have fibrogyalgia, and now I can sleep on my back if I want to without a pillow under my knees. And I can sleep on my side without my shoulder hurting from being folded under me. There are no pressure points. And my husband hardly snores at all with this bed.
Don't buy King Koil! Warranty is useless and it sunk in 2 months! Now there is a big hole in the middle of the bed.
I've had a Tempur-Pedic for four years. I was concerned about making the switch from an inner-spring mattress, since it's such a different approach and feel. With the return guarantee policy I decided to take the leap and try it. I couldn't be happier with my decision. One of the nice things about returning home from being away is returning to the comfortable night's sleep that I get with this bed.
ogtMy boyfriend bought a sleep number bed. When I sleep on my own mattress, I wake up during the night in pain and limp around most of the a.m. I have had chronic pain since the 8o's. aaahis Select Comfort bed is amazing! I sleep soundly all night. I wake up in so much less pain it shocks me sometimes! I'm not sure about the boyfriend, but his bed is the best thing I've found in 25 years!
We bought a King Koil mattress 30 years ago when Consumer Reports rated them as very good. We used it for many years until it fell apart. We then looked all over to find a mattress that was comfortable, and ended up buying a Serta Perfect Sleeper. What a mistake! The first night was awful. We both woke up with backaches. After a year of suffering, we purchased a Select Comfort and are quite pleased. The Serta is in our guest room. When our son and his wife come to visit, they now bring a memory foam mattress topper so they can sleep.
The only bed I have ever truly loved was my water bed. It had wave baffles, which really kept the wave action down to just about nothing. And let you sit on the edge without bottoming out.
It was the only good sleep I have ever gotten. I enjoyed one for 20 years. Unfortunately, my hubby is rather large and found the bed uncomfortable. We have been through 3innerpring mattresses now, none of them satisfactory. We recentry brought his old matress over - innerspring on a platform foundation, and it provides better sleep than any of the newer ones we have tried.
In hotels we have tried sleep number at really hate them. Air does not adjust to the body at all. TempurPedic was okay for me, but too hot for him - he sinks in.
I say, hooray for waterbeds (but I'll keep my hubby). One other great thing about the water bed - I could turn the heat off in the summer, and lay in a cooled bed. In the winter the gentle warmth, coming from beneath me was heavenly and relaxed my joints and muscles.
We just had a bed horror story experience. We purchased a Sterns and Foster mattress when we were first married. We loved it. We didn't want to tavel or visit friends because no other bed was as comfortable as ours. Well we have been married for 21 years so it was time to change the mattress. It did start to break down but after 20 years come on. it was a great purchase, even at that time it was very expensive. So we decided to try a Serta. What a huge mistake. It was not only non- supportive but it was deffective. On my husbands side it was sunken in like a hammock after the first few days of sleeping on it. We tried to use the warrenty but it did not work because of the lies that were told. We got our money back through our credit card co, but the mattress store wanted to resolve this and get their money. They sent out Bed Check which is an independent co. that assesses the beds. They agreed with us. After several months of dispute back and forth finally they came and picked up the bed. We needed a new bed. We looked at the sleep number bed. It was truly expensive but seemed nice even thougnh it comes in boxes. The sales girl was extremely nice and informative. We also checked out another mattress store. We liked the Simmons Beautyrest Black series. We bought the firmest one. It didn't have a pillow top. At the store it was the most comfortable. When we got it home and slept on it it seemed too firm. So we used the memory foam mattress top that we had for our Sterns and Foster to try and keep it longer. Well ,now the bed is good. I wouldn't say perfect. The middle level Simmons with the pillow top might have been better. We are still allowed to trade the mattress for the other one up to 60 days. We might. It is so hard to know until you sleep on it. But we know for sure to stay away from a Serta. The sleep number might be good but I could buy 3 new beds over the years instead of keeping the same one of the sleep number for the price.. If it wasn't for the Simmons I guess we would have gotten the top of the line sleep number. It has material that breaths so you don't get hot at night. The top 3 have this special material. That is the 5,000 the 7000 and the 9,000. The lesser ones are made of polyester which causes the heat. The sleep number control is noisy like a vacuum. The upper models are silent and have a wireless control. All I can say is good luck and make sure that the return policies are true.
Absolutely, the VERY BEST bed we have EVER had was the old-fashioned water bed without baffles. I had a long history of back problems, and the heat from the water bed kept muscles from tightening up, and I always woke up free from pain. A year ago we spent $5000 for a Sealy TrueForm Posturepedic Memory Foam -- Sealy's answer to the Temper-Pedic system with adjustable head and foot elevations. That cost was just for the mattress, foundation and electric frame. I was looking forward to pain-free, restful sleep. No so. The elevation of the head and foot of the bed did not turn out to be of great use or value to my husband and me -- and the massage feature of the frame vibrates the whole room, even on the lowest ranges. The memory foam mattress system has not lived up to our expectations. It has been an expensive disappointment.
I had a soft side waterbed with baffles for 20 years. It was literally held together with duct tape at the end. This bed was the absolute best. As a replacement we purchased the sleep-number pillowtop bed. The thick tempurpedic toppers are very hot so we chose the sleep-number and are very pleased. My husband has a bad back and he loves it.
We bought a Kingdown bed several months ago. While expensive ($3,000+) it seems worth every penny. There's nothing like a good nights sleep.
We've a memory foam matress in the guest room and while very comfortable, it is not for the "hot natured" as one can easily wake up sweating.
i use a water bed. when i need to stay at friends or relatives away from my water bed, i take an air mattress and a mattress pad that heats. it can be put on top of a bed or anywhere on the floor.

Having tried almost every kind of bed, including waterbeds, in the past 30 years, mmy wife & I are able to state unequivocally that our recently purchased 'Tempur-pedic' is by far the best bed we have ever used. Although we paid for the top-of-the-line, king-sized version and for two Tempur-pedic pillows plus the mattress cover et al, this investment is worth every dollar.

My husband is 65 years old and has had back trouble for over 45 years, he used to wake up every morning with a terrible back ache. He tried different beds and about a year ago he bought a Select comfort sleep number bed and has not woke up with a backache since he got it..he loves it!
I bought the Tempur-Pedic bed 3 years ago after my daughter recommended it - I thought it was pretty expensive, but since I was having a knee replacement and had back problems, I thought it was worth it. Since then my back problems have considerably worsened, but the mattress makes the backache go away - can't figure it out, but wish I could spend 24 hours a day on it! I can highly recommend it to anyone - particularly anyone with back or hip problems! Even my orthopedist sleeps on one.
We have a TempurPedic and absolutely love it. Worst thing is having to sleep in motels or at someone else's house...now we can't sleep without the TempurPedic.
I have terrible shoulder pain and my husband has back trouble and we have really noticed how the TempurPedic helps. We can feel totally rested on less hours of sleep. But, beware of the TempurPedic copy-cats. They are not the same in any way. We only recommend the original TempurPedic beds. We don't feel the heat problem others have spoken of. We are sold on them completely.
Here's another vote for the waterbed column. I've slept in a free-flow waterbed for 32 years and wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm not sure why they went "out of fashion," but I'll keep mine until they stop making mattresses and heaters for it.
We went from a water bed to a cheap inflatable camping mattress about 12" thick. It worked fine for about 2 years then developed a huge bulge.
We paid over $1000 for a Select Comfort about 10 years ago. It worked fine for about 6-7 years and only had one of the two cells leak but the company replaced it without cost.
Lately it seems like no matter which setting we use, my wife and I both end up with back pain about 2/3 of the time. Rotating it from head to foot is a hassle and the pump is very noisy, but you seldom use it so that's tolerable.
I'm going to contact the company to see if they have any suggestions, but we're also shopping for something more comfortable. It seems like the Tempurpedics are really expensive, only liked by some of the users and I wonder about how long the foam will last and still provide support.
This is in response to the anonymous comment made at 9:59. My husband and I bought a rhapsody tempurpedic and we absolutely love it. My husband was having all sorts of back problems and now they are gone. I am 81/2 mo. pregnant and I woundn't sleep on anything else. My advice is to go to a store that sells them and try them out because the different models offer different perks. The newer models address the trapping body heat issue. The bed does trap your heat, but it is a small sacrifice for the comfort the bed provides. If we get hot, we just turn on our fan and it usually works fine. I whole heartedly reccomend this bed as well as the pillows. I am very picky about my pillows and the Symphony and comfort pillows offer the right amount of support and softness. Once again try out your options before buying first.
We have had a waterbed for 25 years and are now looking at other options. We still love the water bed but it is getting hard for me to get out of the bed and to change the sheets, since it is so low. All of your comments here have been very helpful.
WHERE OR WHO, SELLS GOOD QUALITY AIR BEDS? ANYBODY KNOW?
when my husband and I used to go away, we'd miss the kids. They moved out and then when we went away, we'd miss the dog. Then we bought a tempurpedic and now when we go away we miss the bed.
we bought our TempurPedic about three years ago. I had bad shoulder and back pain. I don't have the pain any longer. Really hate to go anywhere for the night because I really miss my bed.
My wife & I have been sleeping on the same old Sealy brand mattress for for over 20 years. I bought it at an auction, so it had some wear on it when it was purchased. We turn it regularly. We sleep fine.
I don't understand the fixation on beds and mattresses. I think that we humans are supposed to be sleeping on the ground with vegetation mattresses.
Before paying extra for a pillow top on your new mattress, check out prices on mattress toppers of down, down alterntive, etc. That may be a lot less expensive - and they're removable for knocking for turning over, etc.
I bought a tempurPedic 3 weeks ago
and am NOT satisfied! I paid over $3,000 for it. I didn't want to spend so much money, but my daughter convinced me this was the best bed to buy !I still have time to return it and am thinking of doing so. I would like to get the thinner TempurPedic. I hope this will be the right decision.
I simply purchased the 3" memory foam at Sam's Club. The full-size only ran around 129 dollars, at that time last year. I can sincerely state that it has been a wonderful improvement. No more back discomfort at all. This was not just a decision on my part, but in conversation, my cousin who stated he had back aches every night, purchased this one and praised it highly.
I noticed that the 2" foam at a local department store was double the price for their memory foam, so the price was a steal, as well.
Happy dreams and may all make the best and most successful decision with your mattress purchases.
You may want to take a look at the Swedish Duxiana mattresses. They are very "customizable" for each person. We have had ours for 8 years now and it is an impressible technology as well as an elegant work of art. Yes, it is expensive but well worth it--it seems to me that it is going to last me for the rest of my life. The upper pads are replaceable and with varying degrees of softness in three sections of the body. The pads are replaceable if you need to adjust your sleep preference as you go along in life.
We have had a new innerspring topped with memory foam, then a layer of quilted padding for about a month. We love it. We feel we get the benefits of the memory foam without the extra heat that some complain of. We purchased it at a family owned regional mattress factory at an excellent price.
I only have a question. Has anyone had experience with a Heavenly Bed? I think they are used at Weston Hotels.
I love my tempur-pedic. For the 20 years before I had used a waterbed and my back was getting progressively worse. Since getting the tempur-pedic, my back has gotten progressively better. And in terms of warmth, I put a pad on it (which they don't advise doing). I think this better dissipates the heat. Would never change!
I was surprised to see only one Duxiana comment. I, to have ben sleeping on a Dux bed for 13 years. It was pricy at the time but has endured well.
The Heavenly Bed is a rip-off. They had it all padded up at Nordstrom but the one that was delivered causes the same pressure points. It is all hyped up. Westin..sure it is better than a Motel 6 mattress. My girlfriend bought this bed but my $4oo memory foam that I bought on E-Bay is way better.
When we moved about 8 years ago, it was time for a new mattress. We could not decide: firm, firmer or not so firm. My partner wanted firmest, I wanted "medium firmness". Nothing seemed to satisfy both of us at the same time. So we decided to try the Select Comfort (which became known as Sleep comfort). To make a long story shorter, it was a dream decision (forgive the pun)!
We can each have the preferred firmness, which can change as needed. We both love the mattress, each for his own reasons.
Side note: my sleep number is 75 and his is 50. So much for subjective ideas of firmness. By the way, we chose a middle price Queen mattress, using our own storage bed as foundation. We have never regretted the purchase.
I almost bought a tempurpedic bed a few years back, but went with natural latex instead based on seller suggestion (more than one seller). I am completely sold, as are a few friends who took my advice to go with latex. I was told that tempurpedic material tends to sag/wear out over 5- 10 years and also about the heat trapping issue. Latex can last more than 20 years without loosing shape. The key to good sleep is enough support without causing pressure points (they make you turn in the middle of the night, disrupting deep sleep). I payed about $700 for a king and have already got my money's worth!!!
After 38yrs. and continuing back pain (scoliosis&arthritis), my hubby and I got a Tempurpedic system. At first, it was way too hard for me, but the addition of our 4" memory foam made it the best sleep ever. We highly reccommend it. Worth every penny for a good nights sleep. At least he no longer flips me out of the bed when he turns over. lol He is "hot" natured, no heat problems so far.
My husband and I bought the top of the line king size Tempur-Pedic. It is very comfortable and we both sleep undisturbed if the other gets up in the middle of the night. It is HOT however. We even purchased the "special" cover for the mattress and it was no help. I went back to the store to speak to them and they told me to put an old fashioned chenille bed spread over the matterss and this would take some heat away.
It did not do any good.
I wake up 5-6 times everynight sweating. My husband has resorted to sleeping on top of all the covers including the bedspread to keep cool.
Had I known about the heat problem I would not have purchased a Tempur-Pedic. Beware!
After reading all these messages I am more confused than ever. Some like this, some like that and some are too hot or too cold. I have a terrible bed. It is too firm for me and I do not sleep too well on it. Of course, it has coil springs and that may be the reason. I want to buy a new bed, but all these messages scare the hell out of me. What's a guy to do?
I recently found the bed of my dreams (ha) at a Hilton Garden Inn hotel. I Googled around and discovered that the mattresses in all Hilton Garden Inns are being switched over to those made by Natural Form. Several major hospitals have switched to Natural Form mattresses also, so it seems to be "clinically proven" technology. All I can say is that I had the most plush, relaxing and uninterrupted nights of sleep in months if not years. And I have sleep apnea and am a "hot sleeper," but I wasn't bothered, temperature-wise, with the Natural Form bed. It seems to me that these beds combine the benefits and technology of the Tempur-Pedic and "sleep number" beds, but without the drawbacks. If you Google "Natural Form beds" you'll find links to their web sites.
We had slept on a waterbed since 1976 and loved it. When it could no longer be patched three years ago I did my research. I did not want anything that could leak. We bought a Tempra-Pedic and we LOVE it. I encourage everyone to get one. We bought name brand from a great store and no way would we have considered returning it. They are wonderful and no back aches!
I have a Serta memory foam mattress. I am very pleased with it I sleep well on it . I do not suffer with being hot on it. I have back and a scaitic nerve problem which i do not suffer from anymore. I have owned a craftmatic bed and also the number bed and never slept a well as I am now with the Serta memory foam.
My husband & i are young newlyweds. For Our first bed together we purchased a king koil(a traditional innerspring mattress)That was a little over a year now.I have always had lower back problems. and since the purchase it's gotten worse.(my hubby can sleep on anything) Recently we tried the 90 day money back temperpedic classic bed with out pillow top. We hated it. Sent it back in less then 30 days.Just 2 weeks ago we bought a king size waterbed with duel bladders in it. WE thought it would be great to be able to customize it (firmness&heat) Boy were we wrong. My back hurts worse then ever. We've heard horror stories about the sleep # beds (they trap bacteria)
I'm now thinking that we should of tried the higher end Temperpedic. If the lower model isn't good for me will the other be any better?
Also I've been researching the Kings down bed,Can anyone tell me if there any good.Or even Simmons beauty rest. This is a terrable way to start of a marrege Please help...
Diet of lots of cookies is never a substitute for whole meal.ur back remains same(bad or good)on any matress even made up of stone(which ur orthopedic might love to prescribe, even a hard wooden surface bed with a cosy but thin matress will do.great for any weather just have weather appropriate blanket or ur love.up down or eitherway is ur choice, whats in the end helps is the estern philosophy perticularly yoga (rekha type)for ur mind body and bad back.i only do proper exercises ,take proper medicines and help others.with this priscription from a counsellor like me u will sleep better on any surface. have u forggoten ur camping days?
My daughter and son-in-law got the TempurPedic a few years ago. Don't think they have the high-end one, but they're not happy with it. The complaint is they wake up in pain. I don't know why they didn't report it to the company.
My cousin and her husband love their Sleep # bed, which they got in 2000. They're in their late 60's now, and have never slept better. Both couples are in good health.
We had a baffled water bed for several years, but gave it to our daughter for her health, and we bought a Simmon's Beauty Rest in early 1990's. But, I started waking-up in pain- every joint hurt every morning (on the SBR) and could only tolerate sleeping 6 hrs on it. I complained to the company within the allotted time to try it out. They sent out someone that said it was fine and wouldn't refund or replace it. What complicated my complaint is my husband slept fine on it, and my friends kept telling me we'd "break the bed in" So, for the first 10+ yrs, I thought I was "just gettin' old" pain! One day in 2002while tring out beds in a store, my husband said this Stern's & Foster's "Rose-Cloud" is the only one he doesn't feel in pain on. So I bought it. It ended up being for me, though, as I never woke up in pain again (except the one time I'd thrown my back out at work).
My husband and I purchased a Sleep Number Bed and we love it. The only problem is that we bought a queen size and the two sides are quite small. I wish we had bought a king size There is a baffle in between the two sides which makes the two sides very small. Perhaps if we were more alike on our numbers the separation would not be as obvious. But I wouldn't trade our bed for any other.
Have had a Tempurpedic for just under a year, and although its great for back, legs and torso, its terrible for shoulders, if you sleep on your side. It doesn't allow enough indentation into the foam in this area, so consequently your shoulders roll inwards. creating noticeable pain, that lasts ALL day.
Time to switch to another mattress tye or go for the softer version. Also, it is hot in the summer.
I've been sleeping on a unbaffled waterbed for 35 years. A king size mattress is only $100, so it's no hardship to replace it. I wake up without any low back pain and the warmth is great in the winter. Since there's no mattress to burrow into, mites and fungus are no problem.
I initially ought the temperpedic 3rd highest level queen. I told the dales guy of my hottness at night so he sold me a cover. The bed actually made me three times hotter and drenching in sweat in the morning. Temperpedics seem to be for back sleepers only. The best never loosened up and the smell of the foam was annoying. I use it at a guest bed and have since purchased the KingsDown w/pillowtop. I have to climb into this bed literally, but once i make it up there, it's like sleeping on clouds.
My lower back hurts ONLY while in bed. I have a Sealy, topped with 3" memory foam, pillow top and have tried slipping sheets of cardboard, plywood, styrofoam, etc. between mattress and toppers.....still no relief. Now that I read all these blogs, I am afraid to purchase ANYTHING becuase I do not know if I need softer or firmer mattress. But thanks to everyone sharing experiences.
We bought an Original bed by Tempur-Pedic two months ago. I love it, but my wife hates it. She says the bed is bending her body, which leads to shoulder and back pain. I am not experiencing any pain. Does anyone have similar experience as my wife? What do you recommend we do to make her more comfortable?
READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY A SLEEP NUMBER BED!! My husband and I have owned one since 2004. The last few months I have become ill with constant sinus problems and severe allergy symptoms. So severe that it has affected my ability to work at times and I have had to miss work as a result. My husband was recently diagnosed with Asthma from our doctor and has been taking medicine to treat it. None of this made sense until today. I have been doing my own research into why we’ve had these symptoms and today I found the answer: I happened upon a website that talked about mold being a notorious problem with the Sleep Number bed. I ran upstairs and pulled back the foam mat and there it was on both sides of the bed – MOLD!!! Sleep Number has known about this problem and has purposely not made consumers aware of it. They say that they have solved the problem on the beds made since 2005 by treating them with an anti-microbial agent. When I tried to get information on what chemicals are used in this treatment, I was told by a supervisor they could not disclose this information but was assured it was non-toxic. I wanted to see the documentation to support this and they said they would only provide it if I sent a request in writing, which I have. But here’s the point: Why would you buy a bed from a company that would knowingly withhold information from consumers that could potentially seriously affect their health? It’s tantamount to the tobacco industry knowingly withholding the debilitating effects of smoking. And doesn’t it raise the question that if they would refuse to disclose this information for the health of their consumers, what else are they withholding? What exactly is in the supposedly non-toxic anti-microbial treatment that they are now putting on their beds to prevent mold? Do you think they would tell you if it was toxic?
