The Dangers of Sleeping Naked

Towels? I think they should use robes. If, God forbid, I were to wake up in the lobby of a hotel with strangers checking me out, I think I'd rather don a robe and dash as politely as possible back to my room than wrap a flimsy hotel towel around my waist and make a run for it (we know how insubstantial some of those hotel towels can be). According to Travelodge, the incidence of naked sleepwalking, which occurs almost exclusively among its male guests, has increased sevenfold in the past year. Now the staff is learning how to deal with this unsettling trend. I love how they call it a "phenomena."
Sleepwalking is not very common in the general population (estimates vary between 1 and 15 percent). It's more common in children than in adults, and Travelodge may be seeing more men than women in this behavior simply because it has more male than female guests. Because sleepwalking typically occurs if a person is sleep deprived, I'd venture to guess that many of these men are in work-related stays at the hotel and could use more sleep. Sleepwalking originates during deep sleep and the person usually remains in that state throughout the episode. Sometimes it's hard to awaken a sleepwalker, and the person may or may not recall getting out of bed...but no doubt he may think twice about forgoing the pajamas the next time.
Which brings to me this question: What's with all these men sleeping bare naked? I was curious enough to find out if there were any statistics about people who sleep in their birthday suit. I came across ABC News' poll called "American Sex Survey," which was done three years ago (this kind of data tends to be evergreen). Guess what: men are twice as likely as women to sleep in the nude (31 percent of men, 14 percent of women). Who knew?
But I wonder if those figures change when it comes to traveling. I don't know about you, but even if you're not a sleepwalker, being in a place other than the comforts of my own bed has its own hazards. Perhaps with the allure of carry-on luggage only these days, the pajamas get left behind.

Don't you think there may be more sleepwalking because of the drugs, Ambien and Lunestra? Seems likely too me.
Maybe that should come as a label warning -- if traveling, put on pajamas before taking this pill.
I've slept naked all my life and not about to change. I just won't stay in a Travelodge.
I'm a single male and 60 years old. I always sleep naked. What's the big deal.
I'm a 69 year old male and have slept naked since I was 15 or so. My wife of 49 years is usually naked beside me, and it's still nice to reach over and pat flesh. I'm really uncomfortable with anything on in bed, but then I don't sleepwalk.
I'm a single female and I sleep better when I am naked. Except for the occasional underwear, clothing inhibits my sleep. Sleepwalking has never been an issue for me. If I were to experience it I doubt that I would be in need of a towel or robe. I would just strut on back to my room.
to texas woman, thank you for your
comments :), I sleep in the nude
but am always sure to keep a pair
of jean nearby in case of fire or
if I should need to leave the house in a hurry... or the husband
gets home.
Im a 46 year old female, and i weigh in at 240. I sleep naked all the time and ive found that i do sleep walk, only because i was escorted back to my house by the police when i was found naked sleeping on a city bench.
I've always liked sleeping naked but don't do it any more because I live in California (earthquake and wildfire country) and I'm concerned about having to get up REALLY fast and flee my home. It would be awful to do that naked...too embarrassing and they show everything on news channels nowadays. It would be just my luck that some camera person would film me.
I use to, but I too live in earthquake country now and have no intentions of being in that state on the evening news!!!

I DID'NT MEAN MY HUSBAND.. I MET THE WOMANS HUSBAND... :)
I can't remember where I stumbled across it, but I did find a web site for exhibitionists. One of the most popular 'tricks' for people who like to expose themselves is in a hotel where they use various excuses for why they have ended up locked out of their room and totally naked. "I was just getting the newspaper and the door slammed" is one. Sleepwalking is another.
I think the hotels are getting scammed and the good Doctor has fallen for the trick.
I am 56 years old and I always sleep better naked under a goose down comforter! I believe the Indians say the soul travels more freely in the dream state like that.
I am a 70 year old man and have slept naked since I got out on my own. Who wants to wear "little suits" to bed when they have to wear clothes all day??? Also did away with underwear at about the same time. I am pretty modest otherwise.
MY HUSAND HATES CLOTHES IN THE HOUSE, SO HE GOES COMMANDO AS SOON AS HE HITS THE DOOR, AND THAT IS HOW WE DO IT IN BED EVERY NIGHT. SO MUCH NICER IN THE BIRTHDAY SUIT.
....naked and loving it....
Ya'll are crazy. Why would you want to sleep naked in a hotel bed? Just imagine all the different people that may have slept in the bed before you and the possibilty that the sheets may not be as clean as you think. Sleep naked at home.
I think that sleeping in the nude is okay at home but the last comment is right you don't know if those sheets are clean. I don't sleep nude but I don't like to sleep in underwear.
I agree with jonesridge. I am a 43 year old male and I have been sleeping in the nude since I was in my early 20's as I am extremely uncomfortable sleeping with anything on. My wife of 12 years does the same and it sure feels good to reach over and touch nice soft, warm flesh.
I have slept naked for as long as I can remember, late teens? I'm 34 now and live with my folks. They've gotten used to the fact that I don't like PJ's. I'm very mindful of them being in the house, I don't want to embarass them but I'm not the least embarassed by nudity. I sleep on flannel sheets year round and there is nothing like the soft sheet on naked skin, and I keep a robe nearby. Nudity is natural so when I hit the door after work, I take off the unders and slap on flannel pj's.
I try to not sleep nude in hotels for the same reason that was mentioned...how clean are the sheets?
sleeping NAKED feels so wonderful so free . ya i mean it i am 22 years old and i love 2 sleep naked.
I sleep naked in the summer time. In the winter I usually wear pj's, but amazingly sometimes the things I wear to bed just end up off and at the bottom of the bed or on the floor anyway. I do agree though that sleeping naked is just more comfortable. The things you wear to bed usually just end up all bunched up and tangled around you anyway.
I used to sleep in the nude until I started sleepwalking about 8 years ago. I was 34 and I had never in my life sleptwalked. (Six months later I woke partially paralyzed and was diagnosed with MS) However, I sleep in fairly light garments that don't hinder me.
Hello! I have been sleeping naked for years. Yes, all the 4 Seasons! I don't want it any other way, thank you.
Man, it feels so good!I live alone, so I don't have anything to be really concerned about. If my doorbell rings, I'll simply pull on my shorts, or pants.
Hey, maybe one day I'll answer the door in the bare buff..ha..ha.. I don't think that will go over too well with my neighbours. I am in an apartment building.
Sleep naked...why not?
I love it!
Cliff in good old CANADA...the best country in the whole wide world...
Hi , I have nothing against nudity or sleeping naked , but what everyone here is seeming to forget about is , what happens if you are sleepwalking and a child sees you !! I'm sorry but I would not be a very happy mother if my child seen anyone naked in a hotel lobby or in the street , Unfortunately there are too many child offenders these days roaming the gloaming and just how many of them are actually using these tactics and excuses to be perverted !!
Nudism is and should only be for in your own home and if you do sleepwalk then Please have the decency to think about the fact that other people don't want to see you walking about naked or have their children either !! Also how would you feel if you or YOUR child was on the recieving end of this !! Something tells me you would see it differently !!
I have not slept naked in years, but after reading this I think I'm going to liberate myself and start again...my husband won't mind I'm sure. Oh and I have never sleep walked before.
I think the only sane person with a worthwhile comment is "Louise said"
Nude sleepers, your're all insane!
I was a bit disappointed when I read the actual topic. I thought it was going to be about 'things' getting pinched or whatever when you sleep with everything unprotected. Um, that's happened in my lifetime, done it and had it done to, ow. I sleep with the upper at least in a tank and the lower at least in briefs as does my mate.
I've slept in the nude since I was 20. Its so much more comfortable, and you can twist and turn without getting tangled in the jammies.
why would anyone want to sleep in confining clothing anyway?
Hello! I recently left a comment, however, I feel I have to leave another one, in response to the person who said we were all INSANE, because we sleep in the nude.
Well, I thought we were living in a free country. We are living in 2007, NOT the days of Queen Victoria, who I had great respect for, to say the least.
We are in the privacy of our own home/apartment,hotel/whatever, and it is the business of NO ONE, I repeat, NO ONE, if we all sleep in the nude.
If everyone would mind their own business, and didn't criticize/judge other people, what a world we would have.
Happy Day, Oh, Happy Day!
Maybe the nay sayers are really the people who, actually are sleeping in the nude.
Get a life!
I will be hitting the bed in a few short hours...and, guess what???? I will be sleeping in the NUDE.
There are nude beaches all over this world.
Are we going to ban NUDE beaches?
In Portugal women walk around with their breasts open for everyone to see.
It is a way of life. And, in good old CANADA...a lady in Ontario, a few years ago, was given the permission by the courts to walk with her breasts shown.
So, swallow that one, will you.
We are living in the best country in the world.
Enjoy your NUDITY all, I certainly will!
clara.....
i'm 63, single & cannot tolerate anything on my legs due to restless legs. also i get hot during the night & anything touching me makes it unbearable. i sleep with cats...they don't seem to mind.
as for being insane, maybe i am. i enjoy it if i am. at least i don't judge others for doing what they choose in private. that to me is insane.
i talk in my sleep. i only walk to the pantry to get a snack.
i do have sleep disturbance & sleep deprivation. i hardly think that diagnoses me as insane.
From the comments posted it is apparent that a lot of single old people like to sleep naked.
Oh for drying out loud it is just a body. Americans are so self conscious when it comes to their bodies.
I think this is hilarious. And I think some of the comments are funnier than the original topic. Luckily I can laugh at all the people who are getting upset over this. As far as a child seeing someone sleepwalking in a hotel nude goes, I really do not believe it will have a negative effect on the child at all. Not unless the parent gives it that interpretation. I would simply laugh and make sure my child saw it as nothing bad.
HELLO, IM 60 BEEN SLEEPING NUDE FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS, I SLEEP WITHA T SHIRT, THATS IT, I LOVE IT, NO SLEEPWALKING PROBLEMS FOR ME THANKGOD, ITS THE BEST WAY TO SLEEP..........
hi im joe and I am 60 years young, sleeping in the nude is the most natural thing to do. Id been doing it since I was in my teens.
Ia 22 years old, and i sleep naked and i love it, and i believe that its healthy especially for women to sleep naked, cause than you finally give some time to your punani to breath...

I was really hoping the article was going to address something more interesting than just the fact that it's "dangerous" to sleep naked for fear that someone might catch you sleep-walking. I was disappointed.I was really hoping for something related to Sleep Disorders, which I suppose sleepwalking is. Merely a clever means to get people to read this article.
But oh my, there are many naked-friendly people out there. And to them I say, "Cool--to each their own." Personally, I can't stand to be WITHOUT my PJs because I am always cold. And my partner prefers just the opposite. Go figure. I guess whatever works. But just to be on the safe side, maybe Travelodge should post some little reminder on their website about remembering to pack your jammies!
I'm a 53 yr. professional. I've only started sleeping naked for the past 5 years or so, because my boyfriend does. Now, I can't stand wearing PJ's/nightgown unless I'm sick. They're too restraining. I love curling up to him and feeling his flesh and vice versa. People are too hung up over the human body...get over it!
Try it, you'll like it! ;^)
hi im a 21 yr old Aussie been sleeping nude since i was 12, pplz each to his/her own if u feel comfortable sleeping nude then do it if u dont feel comfortable dont who cares what any1 except maybe your bf/gf thinks and as 4 that comment bout children seeing u naked if u sleep walk, children take on the preconceptions of their parents most of the time if u act all horrified and grossed out they will if u act cool bout it then they wont be traumatized either way its up to u.
Maggie is a genius in suggesting that side effects of the newly popular sleeping pills might explain the increase in sleepwalking. The real nightmare would be if these same drugs also cause priapism or, as the commercials say, "an erection lasting more than four hours." Do we really need businessmen who are naked AND erect parading through the Travelodge lobby?
I can see where sleepwalking in a hotel can present a problem. I go to nude beaches all the time, but I do feel uncomfortable when parents bring their kids.
Sleep-walkers need proper medical attention.---Dr.Asif,Dhaka,BANGLADESH.
I sometimes sleep in the nude. I do when I have no clean pj's. I keep a t-shirt near by.
It's better than sleeping in the nude in the summer worse than sleeping in the night gown/pajamas
in the wintertime.
sleeping naked is fine as long as one doesn't have an issue with sleep walking, I'm 28 most of the time I sleep naked. What's the big deal? In case of fire keep pj's next to the bed.
Maybe pj's should be as available
in the room as towels and TP, eh???
Lass
i agree with the dr.if you sleepwalk you need a exam
also no one cares if
people sleeps that way
but to parade around unless you are in a nudist colony
isnt kosher i also
agree with the lady about here kids its hard enough to
protect children without people running around this way also they might not be nice people who knows?
Going to bed with no clothes on is cool, esp. if it is done in the private
I find it very difficult to believe in sleep walking. I bet that if you stood in front of a "sleep walker" with a lit torch in your hand in front of you, that "sleep walker" would not walk onto the lit torch.
I say everybody to thier own, but if a "sleep walker" walks into my space I think I can walk him/her right back where they came from with the heat of my cig. lighter pointed at their middle.
...I've never sleepwalked and I've never seen a sleepwalker, much less a nude one! I love my skin suit; if sun sensitivity weren't such a problem for me, I'd wear it more often as I favor the European attitude; it seems more healthy...Emotionally open and honest...I like looking at nude people just doing ordinary things...thanks all of you "clothing optional" people out there, you're making this middle aged woman smile in appreciation...
I used to sleep in the nude before I had children. I partially agree with not freaking out when it comes to nudity with children, but I must say that I teach my children that it is there body and no one should ever see it or touch it so we keep it to ourselves. I would be very upset if I was in a hotel and my child encountered that. But my child should be sleeping by that point and I shouldnt have to worry about it. And if they do see then of course you should explain that to them. As for sleeping naked I dont think anyone is a freak or insane for making that decision, the human body is a beautiful thing especially when it is shared with a partner in bed, nothing is more wonderful than that.

I would not mind checking out Dr. B in the nude. you can sleepwalk over to my house nude any day!
My dad's neurologist says that anyone with sleepwalking tendencies should NOT use AMBIEN. It increases sleepwalking!
1, 2, 3 BORING ARTICLE! I don't care to read if you do or do not sleep in the nude. This is not a health issue. I too, thought it might be about health risks, like infection, chafing, or something. I for one would like to say there is nothing wrong with sleeping nude or not sleeping nude, but why are all the nude sleepers acting like they're on the defense or better or more secure with their bodies because they sleep naked? It's no one else's business but the person you share a bed with how you prefer to sleep.
On behalf of all people who like pajamas, it doesn't make them insecure. If you sleep on your side your legs sweat on each other and I find that uncomfortable, so I wear PJ pants, not that it's anyone's business.
I use to love sleeping in the nude, so when my husband was ready, so was I. Since he passed away I decide it was time for the clothes PJ's to be on again.
It does feel great to get out of a nice hot shower and climb nude into bed. Miss that.
I am in my 50's and I wish I could do that again. He loved that too.
This is not the ice age. release your inihibitions. Let go and don't worry about trivial things suchs as that.
You neglected to mention one of the greatest dangers of sleeping naked ..... that is, the risk of getting pregnant !!!
I am so glad to see such a fun topic. I sleep nude most of the time. Sometimes I start out in jammies until I get too warm. Then they are off. I once had a boyfriend who slept in sweats. Of course I am not with him anymore. I am with myself. Nude. In bed. Works better that way. By the way. I am 60 years old. And Ambien does make me sleepwalk and sleep eat. So I don't take it anymore. Ginny
I've been sleeping in the nude for years so whats the big deal now?
I slept nude for years, then I had a child. When they are able to get up at night and come get you, it's just more comfortable to be wearing something. Plus, he would also sleep with me at night sometimes, too. Now, after years of not sleeping nude, I find that I get cold without at least a t-shirt on. So I always have a stash of XXXlarge t-shirts to sleep in even though I normally wear a medium. My husband sleeps nude and in the winter time spends his first ten minutes after waking shivering, but suggest he wear something warm and you will be subjected to withering stares!
To each his own - sleep however you are most comfortable.
I, for one, am relieved that the only "danger" the article lists for sleeping naked is sleepwalking! I am a 40-something female who has slept in the buff for over 20 years and [so far] have not sleep walked. I find some of the comments posted a sad commentary on our society that people judge others so easily; "live and let live" as long as what you're doing isn't causing harm to anyone else, and even the occasional nude sleepwalker is not really causing anyone harm [except him/herself some embarrasment when they awaken to find themselves in public].
I am a 54 year old female who has been a sleep walker from the time I could actually walk. I have had to be returned, still asleep I may add, several times to my home. My parents did everything they could to keep me in and as a young woman in a new town in a new state I took extra precautions to keep me in at night after escaping several times. I still got out. I have driven vehicles in my sleep. I have fired guns in my sleep. I have misplaced many items in my sleep which suggests to me I am still leaving my house.
I sleep in clothing, but it seems to me the problems is that someone needs to figure out why we are sleepwalking, not whether we are naked or not when we do it. I am sure the statistics are way off, that there are a lot more sleep walkers than are reported. I know every Dr I have every asked about it just shrugs it off.
Ok, the "dangers" of slepping Nude can either be accepted or rejected, however; I was born into a family of Nudists and are still a Nudist. My Wife-to-be {she's 42 & I'm 51}(she grew up living next door to me) and I guess sense we were brought up in that Life-style why would we think that sleeping with something on would be un-natural? On the other hand, that is the way we are at HOME. I also spend 8-10 weeks a year at Trade Conventions in places like Las Vegas and the comments about the cleanliness of the Hotel beds are valid. My solution is that I stay at the same place every time I go to Vegas, bring my own sheets and do my own laundery, ect. that way I know what the score is. As for the origional comments about being Nude while sleepwalking, ok. As for me, I don't think I would be embarassed about it sense I am ok with my body, besides....most of my business friends know of my Lifestyle and permit me this without being judgemental so If you out there are concerned about sleepwalking in the Nude or think you might be embarassed if caught, just change your lifestyle accordingly and We who are Nude sleepers will continue not to be worried about it.
i m 22year female & love to sleep nude.who cares.i also sleep walk & stay in travel-lodge.once i was sleepwalking nude in a travel lodge & some gorgeous male spotted me and he hugged me tightly and after that the act followed ,we both enjoyed, but i take precautions for not getting pregnant.

The issue is not whether your wear jammies or not--the issue is WHY IS SLEEPING NAKED BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH? I assume that y'all know that your skin sluffs off when you roll around Nekked. And I assume that y'all frequently wash your sheets while sleeping Nekked at home. Now with staph infections on the rise, such as MSRA so easily transmitted via sweat--I'D THINK THRICE before sleeping in a Hotel bed NEKKED. But whatever floats Ur boat--enjoy!
I've slept in the nude since before I was married (that's 20+ years)and have never run outside in the buff because the fire alarm went off or an earthquake (in fact I slept through the last one) I also would like to know if there is any documented proof of someone sleeping in the nude actually catching something from a bedsheet in a hotel, because frankly in my understanding of how infections and other things such as lice, bedbugs or other parasites or transfered, you can still be infected even if you wear PJs.
It's not uncommon for a sleepwalker to undress during an episode. As a sleepwalker I've been stopped in the process (not in a hotel thankfully) and I've known other sleepwalkers who've come to realize they had been walking by waking up not dressed as they were when they went to bed. Needless to say, I'm not allowed anywhere near Ambien...
I use Ambien to help me sleep. When I wake up in the middle of the night, I am awake! I have no problem realizing I need to put pj's on. People that take meds like Ambien have trouble sleeping so I doubt that a person taking ambien would wake up in the middle of the night not knowing what is going on and make the rounds naked. If I wake up and need to go to the bathroom, I am so awake that I might as well stay up all night, with pj's on, lol. This is just my opinion.
I am am old lady who sleeps nude on a satin sheet on the bottom. Makes it real easy to turn over in bed.

My husband & I have been married for 46 yrs. Both of us are in terrific shape. We love to sleep in the nude. While we were raising our 4 kids & 1 grandson, he slept in his briefs, and I wore a nightie to bed. Now that the kids are gone, we are back to au naturel, and it is wonderful. When the grandchildren sleep over though, it's back to tightie whities and gowns.
My father slept in the nude and would wear a robe until he dressed in the morning. I now sleep in only a t-shirt (so I do not get a chest cold or I would sleep completely nude) and keep a pair of shorts or lounging pants next to my bed.
Hotel guests + sleepwalking + sleeping naked = the makings of a very
Funny story meant to make everyone smile.-

I am 44 years married man. After being in clothes all day, Yes I want to take them off before I go to bed. They make me too uncomfortable in bed. It gives me the feel of freedom. Free of worries.
I am a 57 year old Male and I always sleep in the nude. To top that off I travel somewhere between 42 and 46 weeks a year for work and it doesn't matter... I'm sleeping in the nude... now there is one exception... when traveling with family - even if were we are in separate rooms I keep underwear on but they are uncomfortable... I believe the drugs Ambien and Lunestra are adding to this problem. and I never stay at Travel lodge....
I have severe insomnia and can not sleep for weeks at a time. I have tried medicines to no avail. The best and only sleep I get is from alcohol. I also spent years on the road, living out of my car and motels. Truckers become terrible insomniacs from speed, They often then use Ambien and many other drugs to sleep. This article is no surprise. As for whether I sleep nude, that only depends how cold or hot it is, just like being awake.
i have only been caught sleep walking as a child, and clothed. Never since i started sleeping naked around age 20.
I am a man of 60 years and for last ten years. I am happy and relaxed with out any cloths on my body except to prevent cold temperature.
In my opinion if the person is healthy and no problems of walking in sleep it is comfortable to be naked.
Hey! Let's get real about sleeping naked or with clothing here! If you are comfortable sleeping with your partner naked, JUST DO IT! If it's cold, then add some clothing (your preferences). Duh? I am a former varsity swimmer and now play water polo, so I am comfortable with my body and can always find my boxer shorts, if there is some emergency situation that might arise. My wife and I enjoy sleeping together "in a state of nature and grace" and we taught our kids to KNOCK on the door before entering our bedroom. So, what's the BFD about sleeping naked with your spouse? As far as travel goes, I look great with or without my shirt on and I don't sleepwalk, so GET OVER what people do in the privacy of their bedrooms! Are you all Puritans out there or not?

Sleeping naked is extremely comfortable not to mention sexy. My husband and I are in our mid thirties and we both sleep in the nude every night. I get a cheap thrill by reaching over and grabbing his butt throughout the night. However, I do recommend naps during the day to catch up on missed sleep.
been sleeping in the buff since i could undress myself, got married and now my wife does the same. My parents did the same ......
It wasn't common to see them nude, but it wasnt unheard of either ....
we were always just taught as kids that there's nothing wrong or "dirty" about the human body, its beautiful, male or female. What constitutes Lewd or dirty is behaviour, not the body itself .....
I would love to sleep naked, but my wife thinks it's gross to sleep naked on the sheets. I don't wear underwear (not even boxers) to bed. I don't like to feel constricted in any way. I always wear the softest and loosest sleep shorts I can find.
I sleep in my briefs,in a recliner. I like sleeping in my briefs because it keeps my penis and testicles from getting squashed(when I sleep in a bed that is)I also usually sleep without covers or with a sheet all night. Ny wife sleeps with at least 3 layers of covers. that's one of the reasons she sleeps in a queensized bed and I sleep in a recliner. also it's easier for me to breathe.
Jerry from Texas
I'm 65 and have been sleeping in the nude since my early twenties and cannot stand clothes on me when I am in bed. AND I don't think children seeing people in the nude does them any harm. That is unless some puritan pounds it into their heads that nudity is sinful and obscene...
I sleep in the nude at home but in my travels I have found that most hotels do not have clean beds. I have found hairs, and stains in some hotels that are supposed to be 5 star hotels. My under clothes may not provide much protection but it is better then nothing at all.
I don't see how sleeping naked could be dangerous, unless you're in prison or something!
I used to always sleep naked. Nowdays I am usually either naked or in panties and maybe a T-Shirt. Occasionally I may wear a gown, or sometimes if I am in a sexy mood I will wear some lingerie, even when I am alone. What I wear to bed just depends on my mood and maybe how warm/cold it is.
Whatever feels most comfortable at the time.
I do work so much that there are times that I don't even get undressed for bed because I am so tired, It is really uncomfortable, but I am just too tired to get undressed. Usually, I will be naked by the time I wake up, but not always. When that happens, I will usually get naked and just relax around the house, watching TV or whatever, just going about my normal day at home in comfort to make up for the bad sleep I got the night before because I was sleeping fully dressed.
I do not have kids, and I have never walked in my sleep (that I am aware of)
There is nothing wrong with nudity, especially when it is in the privacy of your own home or hotel room.
Don't knock it till you try it.
my boyfriend refuses to wear underwear. Even when wearing dress slacks. He said that they are uncomfortable. Any comments on this subject? He also sleeps in the nude!
There is nothing wrong with sleeping naked. Have done it for years. When I am traveling and sharing a room with another man, I always sleep in some type of pajama shorts. Or should I say, I try to sleep. Nothing wrong with nudity in the wrong context.
"(this kind of data tends to be evergreen)"
What does that mean?
I go to a college called Evergreen and it's got a... reputation of sorts and is it possible the writer is referring to that?
OMG.....the comment about the naked business man walking around with a 4 hour erection....too funny!!!!!!!
Neked is the only way to get a good nights sleep. My wife always wears clothes. Then she gets hot and throws the covers off. I always stay covered. It has not always been like this. When we had small children I slept with in my BVD's. Since we have no small children any longer, it's in the buff. Always wanted to be a nudist too, wife won't let me.
I agree with the one who said sleeping naked is insane! And not because all of you people do it, but who cares? Keep it to yourselves! Makes me sick by the way. I hope you're changing your sheets every day coz even in your own bed ... would you wear your underwear for more than a day? No. So why would you do it with your sheets? It's the same ...
And washing your sheets every day is such a waste of time and energy and so bad for the environment. Think about it. You can be much cleaner on a daily basis if you wore something in bed! And stopped pretending you feel so great naked. I find this truly disgusting ...
I am 62, my wife is 61, and we've been sleeping nude for 39 years. If it's really cold, she may wear a nightgown, but it is often off by morning! Ye, it is great to reach over and feel that warm body next to me!
Having worked as a night auditor for a competitor of Travelodge in Austin, TX I can a vow to the story of hotel sleep walkers. One night after midnight I had a guest ringing the night bell. When I checked the door, here was a 60+ yr old man with a box around his torso. He had sleep walked out of his room and ended up needing a key to get back in his room!! It was hilarious but I did feel sorry for the old guy. I gave him several towels to cover himself along with an additional key to get back into his room.
That being said, I have slept in the nude since my teens. I'm now 50 and cannot stand to have any clothing on in a bed with a sheet and blanket already covering me. I keep my robe on the bench at the end of the bed and it's the first thing I grab whenever I get out of bed, regardless of why. I think the title of this topic should have been "If you sleep walk, don't sleep naked" rather than implying it's dangerous to sleep naked. I've never had a dangerous moment sleeping in the buff and doubt I ever will.
Sweet Dreams are made of these....!!!
So sad we live in a society that is so upset with the human form. Nothing is more beautiful. We are so freaked out that we think nudity is sick and perverted, but I believe that we should be able to be nude anywhere and there should be no stigma attached. Children should not be raised with the shame they are stamped with by uptight parents. Adults should be free from guilt and shame and we would be a truly free society. Most of this comes from the Christians who would have everything natural be a sin. We are lucky to live right next to the only clothing optional public park in Texas and not only sleep in the nude but take my walks everyday that way. The sun and wind long to touch your skin and the gods meant it that way or you would have been born with clothes on.
I love sleeping in the nude ;but don't because it gets very painful when i roll over on it
BJ
Anonymous 729, if that was the case (i.e. if we had no rules set by society) we would have killed each other long time ago. There's a reason some things are illegal and other - morally wrong (I'm talking about what you refer to as 'sins' in Christianity)
Sleep nude and enjoy the freedom we came into this world that way.
I've been sleeping nude for the last three decades. And that includes home, motels and camping
I love to sleep NUDE. I think it's more comfortable, less restraining and all around makes me feel good. When we travel I do take our own sheets and we check every hotel room for bugs.
Isn't anyone the least bit suspicious that these "sleepwalkers" are just exhibitionists using sleepwalking as a pretext for walking around a hotel in the nude? I think this statistic is a clue:
"According to Travelodge, the incidence of naked sleepwalking, which occurs almost exclusively among its male guests, has increased sevenfold in the past year."
Don't you think it's ALL about comfort levels ? There is NO right or wrong as long as the person sleeping is comfortable. If sleepwalking is an issue, it's going to be an issue whether naked or not and should be addressed accordingly. Caio for now ..
I sleep better when naked. Feels like I'm in a straight-jacket while sleeping. If a life-threatening situation does occur, I'll just slip on my pj's located next to my bed and run out of the house at the same time putting on my pj's
Since I walk, talk and change my clothes in my sleep. I don't think it matters what I sleep or don't sleep in.
From the Fridge in MN
We sleep naked, except in the winter here I wear my husbands clean under t shirt, but the pj's are next to bed in case of having to dash and get the phone (elder family members to consider), unexplained reason, natural disasters (tornadoes--eeekkk).
All Smiles in the Buff!
there are 3 things one should do naked---they're called the "3 Ss"--ie: sleep, swim, and sex....the Canadian muse.
I was also really dissapointed by the article. My husband sleeps naked and I could have cared less until out daughter was born and she is always getting into our bed. I was looking foward to having a list of reasons as to why my husband should put some jammies on. And who doesn't love PJs anyway. They come in so many neat patterns now. I love a nice pair of flannels in the winter and some soft silks in the summer.
Kids have no business in their parent's beds; they should learn to stay in their own.
Sleepwalking should be called a 'phenomenon' not a 'phenomena'. I think it's phenomenal that this unnewsworthy story gets onto this medical website. It is somewhat humorous, but not newsworthy.
Maybe I'm just a prude but as a 50 year old male who travels Monday to Friday often to 2 cities, I always keep a good pair of boxers and T shirt to sleep in. It turned out to be worth it when I stayed in a Town Place Suites in St. Louis which went on fire in the middle of the night one summer, at least I was not naked when the fireman came to my door to evacuate me.
We are a prudist Christian society that is ashamed of our own bodies. We have been programed by the church that our bodies are unclean and sinful. What a shame for us (advanced civilization, huh!). There is nothing wrong with our bodies. In fact I think most people are more attractive without their silly clothes. There is nothing to be ashamed about anyone seeing our real selves. This is why we have so much perversion in our society, as there is so much pressure to fit the J.C. Penny and Sears mold in society. If nudity was acceped then no one would even take notice. If a man was running down the street naked and was brandishing a machete and a gun. The call to police would be "Help, There's a naked man running down the street." Americans are so afraid of everything natural. So sad.
i am a 40yr old woman, and i have slept in the nude for many years,i still remember the first time i did: i was 9yrs old and my parents taught me that there was nothing "dirty" about a naked body, unless it wasn't clean, and that if i wanted to sleep nude i could, and i did for a solid week before i wore pjs again!then at age 17, i started sleeping nude again, and still occaionally do,not EVERY night, but often. sometimes when i am having trouble sleeping and i am clad in pjs, all i have to do to get to sleep is get naked! i also do not believe a child will be damaged by viewing a naked sleepwalker, unless the parents reaction to it is one that produces that result. quit overreacting to the most natural thing in the world:the nude body. i think if we were never to be nude, "god" would have designed us to be born in some kind of "bioclothing". nothing feels quite like a freshly showered body on 400-thread cuont egyptian cotton sheets!@whzvbi
I have slept nude for 36 years. My wife does not. We are comfortable with this arrangement.
However, I do always have clothing within reach should an emergency arise in the middle of the night.
I am afraid of some of the prescription sleep aids due to problems discussed in this article.
Its all about being prepared, whether in the buff, or fully clothed.
im a 17 year old guy and i sleep naked all the time...especially in the summer...in the winter, i might (emphasis on might) put on some pj pants (but only if its REALLY cold.) usually at a hotel, i'll throw on a pair of boxer briefs...but other than that, it's free 'n easy under the blanket...
but i dont sleepwalk
You got smarter quicker than I did! I did away with underwear about the same time too; nothing like being free!
SLEEPING NAKED FOR YEAR'S...AND LOVING IT!!!! I CAN'T STAND WEARING ANYTHING!! ANYTIME I DO...WHATEVER I WEAR...IT END'S UP COMING OFF...I GET TOO HOT...AND ALL BOUND UP WITH THE PJ'S...MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE SLEPT NAKED EVERY SINCE WE'VE BEEN MARRIED...28 YEAR'S...LOVE THE FEEL OF SLEEPING IN THE NUDE...FREEDOM!!!
Cliff894-
I spent 2 weeks in Portugal a couple of years ago.
Where were the bare breasted women?
My husband and I have the hottest room in the house, needless to say we BOTH sleep nude... and wouldn't have it any other way. ;]

VERY WELL SAID i agree 100%
and you know where that spawns?
In the Bible! In the garden of eden Adam and Eve were NUDE! it was not up until they went against god and fell for temptation (the eating of the apple) that they became ashamed of there bodies and put clothes on. and now so long after we still have this mindset. Which is very sad. My body is beautiful, my body was created in the image of God himself. And no sin can taint that. We are all with sin, but that does not mean we should be ashamed of ourselves.
Hamlet:
What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how
infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and
admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like
a god! the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals—and yet,
to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me—
nor woman neither, though by your smiling you seem to say so.

I feel too vunerable to sleep in the nude, so I do wear pajamas, or a nightgown if it's not to cold out, and even sleep in underwear too. especially in a hotel/motel room, never know what's going to happen, I've been to 2 different places where the fire alarms went off i the middle of the night, did not see any naked people standing around outside for an hour while waiting for the all-clear signal to go back to your rooms.
No clothes is just plain GREAT. When it's warm,as soon as I get home, off goes the clothes. What a feeling. I have slept nude for as long as I can remember and find trying to sleep with anything on just is NOT the same. Wouldn't can a bit,,,give it a chance, not just one night but about a week,,YOU'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Am I the only one here who likes to sleep in clothes? I don't mind sleeping naked by myself, but honestly, when I'm with my boyfriend, as much as I'd like to sleep next to him naked, I find I get really hot when our bare skin is touching each other. I can't sleep when I'm hot, so if we fall asleep naked I find myself pushing him away because he makes me hot. But if I through on a tank top or t-shirt it keeps me cooler when he cuddles up close to me.
whoops...I meant "throw" not "through."
I think it's funny that all the comments of it's nothing to be ashamed of and embrace the nude human body are mostly made by anonymous people. It's also so far removed from topic as well. Why all the remarks about a meaningless topic????
adding to the comment about Portugal and Ontaria,Canada allowing women to be topless in public - in the US, that is also legal in most states - in NY state, for example, The Court of Appeals of New York ruled in 1992 in People v. Santorelli that female toplessness is only against the law in a commercial context (like selling your body). The ruling said that there was nothing to demonstrate that 'the non-lewd exposure of the female breast is in any way harmful to the public's health or well being', and therefore the gender bias allowing men's breasts to be shown but not women should not be allowed.
You can see http://www.law.cornell.edu/nyctap/I92_0160.htm for the full text.
Interestingly, social norms - or the general presumption that it is against the law - seem to be sufficiently strong that I have never seen a topless woman in NY state, even on beaches (excepting nude areas) or in the park.
I LIKE TO POST COMMENTS ON BLOGS IN ALL-CAPS.
I am a trucker..My wife says she sleep nude when I'm not home...Wonder why?
I can't stand wearing anything to bed. I always used to sleep in the buff, but I am an insomniac (in & out of bed alot) and my boyfriend and I have 5 kids between us and a small house....there is always the chance that one of the kids will come in during the night and I wouldn't want to freak them out (it happened once before)....and we don't beleive in closing our door at night. I can't wait for the day (night) to sleep nude again...it is very freeing and natural to me.
Wow... I just can't believe how many people are ashamed... almost AFRAID... of their naked bodies.
GUESS WHAT! Underneath our clothes are... NAKED BODIES!!!!!!
It's what WE ARE! Jeez.. have you never masturbated???
I'm 21... I've slept naked for YEARS... except in hotels... and I love my body! Our bodies are beautiful, beautiful things and we should be thankful for them and love them. Why would such a beautiful gift be seen as "Dirty"????
As for the comment about children seeing a naked person nude in the hotel-well I understand, but those children should not be up roaming in the middle of the night when they should be sleeping also. They should already be in their rooms under parental guidance. As for sleeping nude, I used to wear nightgowns to bed and could not sleep any other way-then when I was preg with my son;I could not sleep with anything on for the last 3 months--since then I have slept nude ever since and cannot go back. That was almost 13 years ago. I love sleeping in the nude. I just make sure to leave a robe or clothes near by if I need to move quickly out of the bedroom for something. God made our bodies (mine is not perfect). But everyone has a choice. Neither is right or wrong. But common sense needs to come into the equation too.
*Sam*~ Alabama---
I love to sleep naked and have for years! When we have a child I started wearing panties or shorts on the bottom but that is about it. I do keep a shirt or robe by the bed "just in case". The hubby only wears boxers so why should I have to wear more than that. I don't walk around completely naked because my son is now seven but in our house there might be someone dashing through the house in the buff to get to the clean clothes that may still be in the dryer or wash room in a basket. LOL, most of the time I have to remind my son to put on something more than shorts. He was even worse when he was younger..never wanted to wear clothes or a diapers. We would find his clothes and then a diaper all over the house then we would find him playing naked in some room. Matter of fact we had to go and buy him something to wear for PJ Day at school because he does not like to wear anything other than his boxers to bed. It should be up to each person what they do or don't wear in their own lives.
When we had our son*

I am sure there are some health risks to sleeping naked, but there are some benefits too. Where it is cold, sleeping naked with another person keeps both warmer. Body heat is a natural heater!!
I grew up wearing pjs to bed, it was part of the routine...my kids wear clothes to bed. I don't know why, they just do. Even when it's so hot here in the southwest!! Now I think this is strange!!!
BALLS!!!!
i work in a hotel. not a travelodge
this isn't new.
it is usually men but it's pretty consistent in general.
it's mostly unpleasant for the eyes
God Bless Louise for your comment.
I am 23 yrs old and I have slept naked. Of course, a yr or so ago, I was taking Cymbalta and somehow showed up down the block @ our hospital @ 5am w/ a nightgown on and no shoes. I guess meds have a significant effect on whether people sleepwalk or not. As maggie said, Ambien and lunesta often do cause these problems esp in the elderly.
i am a single male ..... i think we guys sleep better when we are naked......... and we guys(in hostel)never experiensed sleepwalking also we hostel guys enjoys sleeping with out clothes .thats all
Sleeping naked is great! Sleaaping naked in a hotel... maybe not such a good idea but understandable. But sleepwalking naked where you end up in a hotel lobby seems absurd. I don't know much about sleepwalking but can a dead-asleep person get up, go to the door, unlock it, ride down in a elevatoe/ navigate strange hallways to end up somewhere to be seen? Sounds a but cockemayme to me.
Right on! You sound like my kind of guy!
I had slept nude for quiet a few years and had to spend a few nights in a hospital. I could not go to sleep even though I had on my own pjs. My room mate said why don't you take them off, I did and went right off to sleep. The next morning the nurse came in and I told her why I did not have clothes on and she said that was fine if it helped me sleep. People that have always wore clothes to bed do not under why the nudies can't sleep with clothes on. I used to be a sleep walker when I was around 8 to 12 years old. But have not since then and I am 70 now.
I used to sleep nude but after having knee surgery it seemed my knee hurt worse when it got cold. So I went to pjs, but I use the satin ones. This allows me to move very easy under the covers. My husband still sleeps nude and only wears short when he goes for a Dr visit. It is just whatever you get used to.
This is ridiculous! there is nothing but naked people all over the tv here in america. Even the disney channel has gotten a little racy. If you're not mature enough to explain it to your kid then maybe you should stay home. People be serious!
I too was surprised by the title of this article. I have never heard of any health hazards for sleeping in the nude, but there certainly is for sleeping in clothes.
Years ago, a co-worker developed breast cancer. Shortly after she told us about it I read an article about sleeping nude and breast cancer.
It told how at night our lymphatic system drains the toxins from the day and when we wear clothes to bed it contricts the lymphatic flow causing the toxins to stay in our systems much longer and contributes to cancer, especially wearing a bra to bed causing breast cancer.
The next day I asked my co-worker if she ever wears her bra to bed and she "Yes, Ma'am, when i was a young girl, my grandmother taught me to always wear my bra to bed in case there's a fire or something in the middle of the night, I won't have to run outside naked. I've slept in my bra ever since"
To put it mildly, I was STUNNED and told her about the article.
I pointed out to her she could keep a nightie right beside her bed and grab it on her way out the door if needed. She said she wouldn't have time to grab anything and she didn't want to run out naked.
I asked her how many times in all her 40something years on this earth did she ever have to run out in the middle of the night.
She said "None".
So for all those years she had worn a bra for something that might happen but never did, and now has cancer thanks in part because of it!
She had to endure surgery, chemotherapy, and the entire hellish journey to save her life. She recovered but her cancer came back in her abdomin, and again she had to endure that hellish journey. Today she's still alive, thin, and frail, but still with us.
(and yes, i myself do sleep nude. I started off with wearing just underwear but i had so much trouble sleeping i had to have a fan running to help lull me to sleep. Till someone suggested going all nude. The first night i felt slightly wicked like i was doing something wrong, but realizing no one would ever see me under the covers i tried it again, and slept soooooo much better than i ever have in my entire life. Like someone wrote here earlier, once you try it you'll never go back to wearing anything to bed.)
I have slept nude for many years nothing wrong with it enjoy.
You know sleeping naked is wonderful, especially next to someone who's skin is soft and warm. I do it all the time and i know in a hotel room situation it could be dangerous especially if a fire breaks out.
What i do is have my robe and pj'x nest to me anyway and just go to bed and enjoy the sleep session naked. If anyone has a sleeping problem, i would go to the doctor and get that fixed before traveling. I will not put on clothes before going to bed. No! Im anti clothes and personally if society was a naked society it would force everyone to stay in shape. Think about that.
What's wrong with sleeping in the nude? It's up to the individual's comfort. Sleepwalking is the issue- not nudity. I wear only panties to bed. If it's really COLD, I might wear pjs or sweats, or pile on extra covers. No big deal. I also run around the house in my undies whenever it's warm enough. What's weird is: my husband sleeps in his street clothes on the couch every night. Sometimes he doesn't even bother to take off his shoes. I don't see how he can possibly be comfortable. [Once in a blue moon, if it's really warm, he'll strip down to his boxers and t-shirt.] He also sleepwalks on rare occasion. One time he went out on the porch stark naked in broad daylight [he had fallen asleep after we made love] and I had to FIGHT to pull him inside the house before the neighbors got an eyeful! now THAT was embarrassing!*blush*!
I love sleeping naked -- NOW. I used to sleep in a night gown, but not any more. I am a married 34 yo female. I fell asleep naked a few years ago and my husband started to stimulate me in my sleep. This lead to a sexual dream, until I awoke just as I was about to climax. I found it so exciting, I have slept naked ever since. It dosent happen often, but I look foward to those "special" sneak attacks.
Di says; I do not sleep naked and I do sleep walk. There was one time that I jumped up on the bed, thinking cockroaches were all over me, I was also jumping on my husband, I ran down the hallway, knocking pictures and wall hanging off the hall walls, unlocked the door, opened the gate and ran to the end of the driveway. All while sleepwalking. I had a night gown on, however, my husband was naked and chased after me! So,, I do wear a night gown but he still sleeps naked!
I noticed , people who brag about sleeping ...NUDE .....have the worst shapes , pot guts , do not care , about other people , they think , there butt , doesn't stink , they don't drip body fluit on sheets , there , the ones , love to go to ," nude beaches ", they think , children , should think , this is normal , it isn't , if it was so normal , people wouldn't wear any thing , all the time , your sick , try buying the right size night garment , instead of size 4 , when , you need a size 18 or 40 , no one can sleep in tight night gowns , or P.J.'s , your just the kind of sick-o , that might have a fire , can run out the house , so the neighbors can see , your ass , I wouln't give you a blanket or robe ,' set on the grass , let bugs craw up , your butt " , Normal people , arn't ashamed of there body , we just don't like to display it , like a freak , we know better. Back to the topic....Sleeping nude and sleeping walking in hotels.
I agree that a towel at the front desk may help, but a robe would be much better.
If I was a hotel manager, I certainly would provide robes to the rare number of naked sleep walkers. True, the nude sleepwalker should NEVER sleep nude when not at home, but in the event they forget to put on their britches, please keep something on hand just in case.
As for the fact of being nude and sleeping naked....to all those extreme conservatives, being naked is natural...so natural in fact, that we ALL come into the world that way.
What truly amazes me is all those who feel a need to share how they sleep. I mean, who really cares how anyone chooses to sleep in the privacy of their own home or hotel? I know I don't. I don't feel the urge to share how I choose to sleep either. Guess I'm just another secure and confident American.
I have slept nude for as long as I can remember, spring, summer, fall and winter. I like the freedom of just a sheet and blanket, and if the door bell rings, and it is after 9pm, they shouldn't be at the house anyway. Nudity is great, all you prudes should try it..

I really thought that this article was going to be more realistic than the preferred sleeping habits of adults who have every right to sleep nude if they wish. The real article should have read something like this: Sleeping nude in public places such as hotels and motels can be very bad for your body. Thousands and millions of bacteria from many sources are left to contaminate all who come in contact with it. Bedding and mattresses attract them as well as bedbugs and other living creatures. Sleeping in the nude can be very dangerous to your health as these organisms will attach themselves to your naked skin and penetrate your body causing many different illnesses. Don't forget the carpets of hotels. They are not washed or disinfected nearly as often as the bedding. When people walk across the floor, they pick up these microorganisms of their feet and transfer them to the inside of the bedding. Clothing will at leas slow the process of these infecting little creatures. When we sleep in the nude there is no protection at all for our private parts that are left out in the open. Women are especially vulnerable because of the moistness and sweet smelling openings between their legs. This can act like a lure and a trap for these undesirable microbes. Clothing will at least slow them down a bit. At home, unless you wash and disinfect your bedding every day, you can have similar results as the sweat and other bodily fluids from the night before tend to attract these microbes. At home or away it is not a good idea to sleep nude.

C'mon it just a natural body, as long as you aren't a pervert...who cares. I sleepwalk and find myself naked in many different places...hotel, grocery stores, parking decks, the police station....just to name a few...
Parents with children in the house should wear something, especially if the children come into the parent's room at any time, or a bathroom is shared. If children are gone, go ahead and sleep how you want but wash bed linens with bleach frequently in hot water and use several mattress pads and a towel underneath when necessary. If using a motel, take your sheets and pillows, don't use their blankets. Remove spread from bed upon entering the room and check for bedbugs before getting into the bed. Also do not use their whirlpool baths as they do not clean the outlets with bleach each time and mold builds up..Yuck!
My father never wore pajamas. At age 69 he died at home naked. The EMTs and police responded to my mother's 911 call and they had the good fortune of attending to a naked elderly man. I suppose the good news is that the EMTs did not have to worry about cutting off any clothes to attempting CPR. I guess Dad was able to go out in the natural way he came in. Mom was embarassed about the bare ass though.
What are PJs? :)
I wonder why America has the biggest problem with sexual perverts than any other country? Also, why are Americans more hung up on nudity than any other country? Could the 2 be related?
My wife, in a prudish state, made the comment one time, "If God had meant for us to be naked we would have been born that way" -- she immediately retracted that statement.
I am a Christian, which neans that I believe that Jesus Christ is the one true son of god, that he died for ALL of our sins, and that entry into Heaven is only through Him. Unfortunately, the world is full of people that would rather worship the act of religion (many co-called Christians are guilty of this too) rather than accept the love that God has for each one of us - by the way, "since God so loved the world, he sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, that we may have everlating life with Him in His kingdom". Think about this before your prudish remarks back (and do not forget the parable of the log and the splinter in your eye).
Now, taking a truly Christian aspect into whether sleeping naked is right or wrong, and since we were created in God's image (no matter how good or bad we may think we or others look), perhaps that should be left up to those individuals to choose for themselves. The Bible, by the way, does not in the New Testament or the Old Testament ever say nudity is wrong - true, Adam and Eve thought it was, but god didn't say it!
Sorry for the misspellings
And God should be capitalized
I get too emotionally charged sometimes when people that mean well by good acts simply forget that Christianity is about the first six letters of that word, not good acts. The Bible is clear on this, but people do not tend to want to listen to that.
Remember, the nicer the clothes you wear to church, the better to buy your way into the kingdom of God, correct? OOPS - Ummm, can we buy our way to God? Better read the Bible if that is what you think.
I am a 24 yrs ols female. And I sleep better when I am sleeping in the nude. I feel free and sleep better.
I would never sleep nude in the hotels/motels, as most of the time too my family is with me. I don't like being nude at home in case the kids get sick and come in to get me, but the husband loves to be in the buff and wants me too that way. I worry about fire and having to leave the house quickly for some reason..I want to make sure instead of having to find my clothes (as I move around in bed a lot and doubt very much if they would stay where I put them) that I could get my children out in case of fire, etc...I honestly think that in case of fire if I was nude I would get my kids out and then stay inside the house as I don't want everyone seeing my nude body.....I can imagine the remarks of the unkind neighbors now.....
I want to comment on this one that I just read, as you have it all wrong.....

I have slept nude in the past and at times alone with the hubby, still do. I still get the males attentions when I walk but it is coz I still LOOK GOOD, not coz I am fat and overweight. I would rather NOT sleep in the hude though as I have had several surgeries and I don't like showing off my surgery marks, my husband is the one that has the "if they don't like your body then they can just f*cking turn their heads" I respect others desires not to look at my body, and if we were camping at a campsite no matter what he would want I wouldn't get nude in our tent...just not the place or time for it. And as for kids thinking that walking around nude is ok, that is wrong. I have always tried to teach my kids that nudeness is for the husband/wife behind closed doors, but they know that I sleep in pjs, but that daddy sleeps in the nude...they have told me that they don't like to come in when they are sick as daddy is nude....

Sleeping nude is extremely dangerous.
I have been pregnant every nine months for the past 3 years. HAHHAHAHA. We are now working on our 6th child. I am 35, have had 5 successful pregnancies, and my husband tells me every day that my body is beautiful.
The only time I sleep walk is to trip my way to the bathroom because a growing baby is tap-dancing on it.
Sleeping nude is healthy, promotes intimacy, can keep you warm with your lover in the winter and cool in the summer. Be happy, people.
What is wrong with Louise and all the people singing her Puritan praises?
You have a body. You shower naked (I hope!). Why not sleep naked?
I actually started sleeping naked by mistake when I was about 20. I'd always done a t-shirt and panties before... two nights in a row, after starting a new and exhausting job, I fell asleep fresh out of the shower. I'd taken off my bathrobe, but without getting dressed went out cold.
I found on the third night sleeping in clothes wasn't comfy!
It's liberating. When my husband and I were dating he had a "no clothes in my bed" policy... and I was fine with that. Now he gets cold, and sleeps in sweats... so for Christmas I bought him an electric blanket and now he sleeps nude again! Woohoo. :)

KC in BC Canada I have to sleep with a T-Shirt as I get cold shoulders and I can't stand my husbands hairy ass on me (makes me itch) (he sleeps nude) except when we have our grand childern staying (2yr & 5yrs)
My wife and I both enjoy sleeping in the nude and have never had a sleepwalking event( that we know of :)) one thing we did notice and had to change was we would both like to touch each other before and while sleeping a leg touching leg an arm touchng arm etc.. The reason we had to stop slowly is because we both developed a need for ths tender touch and when I needed to travel for days and weeks at a time we both noticed we were getting poor sleep because we missed each other. We replaced the human touch with pillows and from time to time we still reach out for that touch while sleeping and if we don't feel flesh we awake.
I believe there to be some relationship of our current illnesses due to the break in sleep patterns I tend to sleep only 4 hours a night deep restorative, she awakes every 2 hours and is tired all the time no matter how many hours of sleep she gets.
Hay why done we all just get together and sleep naked together!
I do all the time.
I LIKE TO SLEEP NUKED .BECAUSE AFTER ALL THE WORK .I DO IN THE FULL DAY .I M FULLY TIED.AND I FEEL FREE
TravelLodge...Exclusivly Males? perhaps you a have a group of prevs who like to expose themselves and pretending to sleep walk is the safest way. just a thought
I am 14 and have been sleeping nude for at least the last 4 yrs. I love it. It feels so freeing. only problem is when tossing and turning i crush my penis:( any suggestions??
When I was 14 I probably would have had the same problem as I was pretty horney! Wish I could come up with a good suggestion!
Man alive, all I see discussed is naked or pajamas;
why doesn't anyone just do the lower body underwear only thang?
I do!
Sleeping in the nude is the only way to go! I'm 44 and I've been doing it since I was a youngster. When I'm home, sleeping in the "buff" allows easy access, provides warmth, and best of all, improves the spooning effect...lol. However when in a hotel over-sized shorts seem to do tha trick.
haha OMG ppl... being naked is fun. leads to sexy times. and it feels great who cares.. if you sleep naked or wear clothes i sleep naked cus my bf usually comes in and fondles me and it makes for a great way to access a blow job in the morning :)
ONE LITTLE TID BIT OF ADVICE... I CLEAN HOTEL ROOMS...
DONT SLEEP NUDE IN THEM... YOU NEVER KNOW WHATS ON THOSE SHEETS AND THE COMFORTERS ARENT WASHED BUT ONCE A WEEK SO YOU ARE SLEEPING ON THE SAME NASTY COMFORTER A HOOKER AND HER JOE HAD SEX ON THE NIGHT BEFORE... ANYTIME YOU CHECK INTO A HOTEL ASK FOR THE BED LINENS TO BE CHANGED BEFORE GOING TO YOUR ROOM NO MATTER HOW CLEAN THE HOTEL MAY LOOK BECAUSE I PROMISE YOU THEY ARENT CLEAN.
Female 28
I have been sleeping naked from as far back as I could remember. When I was little, my mom would always wake during the night to redress me but finally gave up.
Clothes in bed just isn't natural, not sure how people do it.
I do not think modern people should bo naked in bed for any reason. We have long lost the tough skin that protects us. I do not sleep naked for many reasons, not the least being that I am very uncomfortable when in bed naked.
One should never be naked if they are known to sleepwalk, even if what the article says is a bit dubious.
I found this site while researching information on bed bugs. I wasn't expecting a lengthy discussion on the merits or lack thereof of sleeping in the nude. I will mention, however, that one poster has it incorrect that bedbugs transmit "all sorts of diseases." My considerable research contradicts this. They are a super nuisance, but not particularly dangerous except for the resulting itch that gets scratched too vehemently resulting in infection which the scratcher caused him/herself. Maggie: your comment about the sleep aid warning label is hysterical. I love it! Kinda like the warning now on electric iron boxes: "Do not iron clothing while on a body." Oh, dear!!!
i cant belive that this has gone on this long
I would never sleep naked in a hotel, but that's due to the grossness factors of hotels... FYI, they might wash the sheets every day, but they wash the comforter once every six months unless there's visible ick on it.
As for sleeping Naked at home - heck, I take my clothes off just to watch TV.
its good to sleep naked, if you are married its cool, and if you are single and alone its cool too, but if you are out of shape, single and plan on having company in bed, for gods and everyones' sake, put something on.
I am sooo tired of everything being labeled "sexual predator". Sleeping in the nude has nothing to do with it!
I am a 27 year old female. I love sleeping nude! I always keep my robe hanging on my bedpost, just to be safe :)
I have never had a sleepwalking issue, but I agree with another comment about drugs such as Ambien being linked to the increased sleepwalking cases. I know a couple of people taking Ambien who have slept walked.
I realize sleeping nude isn't for everyone but I am at my most comfortable that way....plus, it saves me a LOT of laundry!
okay, here's the thing. In hotel rooms, I can understand NOT sleeping in the nude, simply because it's been PROVEN that the sheets on hotel beds (not to mention the beds themselves) still contain particles of skin, hair etc. from the people who slept in it before you. Do you really want someone else's butt hair ending up on your chest?
Now, if you're in your own home...it's your home! When did we all become such prudes that we have to be covered head to toe when living by yourself or with your spouse(who i'm sure has seen you nude at some point...if not then see a therapist)? I mean, seriously people! If you still live with your parents, or with roommates, or if there are young children in the house, then just be mindful that they may not want to see your...stuff. Otherwise? it's your bed, your room, your house...your life.
You wanna be fully covered? Go for it! Wanna be wearing just what you did when you came into this world? It's your prerogative! wanna be a guy wearing a bra and panties? Fine, just shut the blinds!
I thought we lived on our own so we could do whatever the heck we wanted...
Sleeping naked is someone's choice. Some people do and some people do not. I do not sleep naked very often, however when it gets hot in the summer I sometimes will. And why is everyone so afraid of their own bodies? We were born naked, and there is nothing wrong with it. There are nude beaches all over the world. And whoever left the comment about only ugly/fat people visiting nude places is wrong. I know plenty of gorgeous people who visit them, including myself. STOP BEING AFRAID OF YOUR OWN BODIES PEOPLE! You were born that way. God didn't put clothes on you. Why should you feel you have to? Ted is also right, teach your kids to stay in their own beds. Otherwise, they need to knock. With that taken care of, realize it's your own choice. Why are we so caught up on our NATURAL naked bodies when there are bigger problems?
I love sleeping naked. Of course, my body gets very hot when I sleep. My boyfriend says its like sleeping next to a blast furnace. I am very healthy so Im not sure why that is. Clothes feel binding in bed and when I move, they dont. It gets uncomfortable. Besides I like the cool soft sheets next to my skin. I do have kids so I always keep a pair of pjs close so I can get them on in a hurry if need be. If I travel I always wear panties and possibly a tshirt, just because you never know who was in the bed before you. But I will never change. It just feels too good.
I agree with the second anonymous, I have been sleeping naked since I was a human.
65 year old male - widower. Have always slept sans clothing as did my wife.... Enjoy doing the housework in the buff as did my wife. Provides ample oppurtunties to enjoy ourselves and each other. We were together 42 years. Enjoy life... start each day asking yourself how you can make this a better day for your partner.... it works.. Really miss her..
Someone posted here about sleeping in hotels naked that you do not know if the sheets are clean?
One way to find out is to do what the radio hosts BOB&TOM do.
When they travel they use a plug in BLACK LIGHT to check for foreign things in and on their bed sheets and floors.
I tried it and it does work!!!
sleep in naked since in college, friend with me do the same thing, that is great and nothing to see each other naked in the room. we do naked in public loker after swimming or gym.
Hi, I am a 35 yr old female with 2 girls. I have always slept naked and I instill in my girls that they too should sleep naked. It lets you body breath. My husband is 54 and never used to sleep naked but since we were married he tried it and now won't sleep any other way. I think its comforting to roll over and feel skin. We cuddle alot more and we don't just sleep naked if the girls are not home... we hang around the house naked. It's awesome.
I'm a 71 year old female and have slept naked since I was 17. I think it's because my mom always sewed up big, billowy nities that wrapped around me all night long and kept me tied in knots. The only thing I am worried about is how will I ever get a good nights sleep if I end up in the hospital. (I am 71 and it will probably happen sooner or later.) I guess if I slept nude someone would cover me up if I kicked off the sheet. No one like to look at a skinny little old grandma.
I've been sleeping in the nude for the better part of my adult life. Even on business trips of camping I sleep in the buff. I prefer it.
I'm a 38 year old male and I have been sleeping in the nude for over 15 years an I must say it's paradise. Although I don't sleep naked 365 days a year because I don't think it's wise to do it at other people's house, but when I'm at home or in my hotel of choice, my clothes come off with quickness. It's much more comfortable to get into bed naked after a very hot shower or bath and not to mention you won't be spreading as many germs as you would with out bathing.
I have nothing against sleeping nude, because i sleep in a t-shirt and underware, pants just end up at the end of the bed anyways
i am a 42 years old male . i am currently staying with my 48 year old girl friend. we used to sleep togeather but because i snore i sleep on her couch. i have sleep naked sice being on my own and for many years. as a child growing up we where not allowed to just walk around nude any time we felt like it .everyone had their own room
WHO CARES HOW YOU SLEEP?
I was brought up from childhood to sleep naked by parents who always slept that way themselves, and I had the good fortune to marry a man who was also a committed nude sleeper. At home or staying in a hotel, our bed is always a clothes-free place. Once they were dry at night, our kids were given the option of conventional nightwear, underwear or birthday suits. Guess what! All three of them opted for birthday suits, just like Mum and Dad.
Sleeping Naked:
I have been sleeping in the nude since I've been 12. Even thought I get night time erections, I still enjoy sleeping nude and waking up with a hard on. Now I'm 23 going on 24 and still sleep naked.
I've been caught sleeping naked by my mom since the early years, but don't find it wrong, she's the one that brought me into the world. I sometimes walk around the house naked with mom around and doesn't bother her seeing me nude and sometimes erect. The whole kids seeing people naked is natural but some parents restrict that and thats fine. Its up to each parent or protective guardian to see the best interest of the child, teen or etc. I know for hand, that I didn't find nudity wrong when I was 12 or 13, I actually liked to see people nude. When I was 12, I saw a man in his late 20's nude and erect everyday, and didn't bother me being nude together.
Anyhow, sleeping naked is dangerous for the already mentioned of sleep walking, etc. In my house, we all sleep naked and walk around naked as well. Its natural... :)
What is so "dangerous" about having people in a Travelodge see you nekked? I would think the focus of dangers of sleepwalking would be walking into traffic or off a building... not getting caught with no clothes on. As far as being insane for sleeping in the nude, to each his own... please don't judge. I personally don;t do it for the simple fact that I grew up in Southern California with earthquakes... lol. And for all of you who are concerned with the cooties on hotel sheets.... you don;t have to be naked to come into contact with anything left on the sheets. If you are that paranoid about it, just don't stay in hotels or bring your own sheets.
