Coming Soon: WebMD Community Goes 2.0
AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Hi WebMD Members!

My name is Leona Perry, and I work with the Community and Membership Team here at WebMD.

It is my pleasure to announce to you that WebMD will soon be upgrading our community features and providing our members with even more exciting tools, as well as revamped message boards. These new features will allow our members a much more personalized experience in the WebMD Community that they love.

In this blog, we'll introduce you to some of our new features and explain how they'll work.

You'll have your first glimpse of our new message board look. (Even though the look is a bit different, they work much the same, but with lots more bells and whistles.) AND, you'll be able to take a peek at what your awesome new profile page will be able to do for you!

I won't give away all the secrets just yet, so stay tuned to the blog for more about YOUR WebMD. And, be sure to ask your questions and give us your comments.

Hi Ruth!

We'll have some images you can choose from to use on your Persona page if you can't upload photos.

:-)

Is there a way a thread can be popped to the top if it is posted to. This would mean we wouldn't have to scroll down to look for recent postings and I think a person would receive more answers and info this way. Right now a person posts a question and in no time it is to page 2 and buried.

This sounds a little complicated. I hope you will give us very simple directions.

The software is the same that we have now, just displayed differently. So, we won't be popping the threads up to the top.

However, the new threading is going to allow more top-level posts to show on a page, and beside those posts you'll see how many replies have been posted and WHEN the last reply was posted. It's pretty neat.

We hope that it's going to help folks out quite a bit.

Hi taterbug1949!

You know, it seems complicated when you're looking at all these graphics, but it's not much different than what we have now, truthfully. The look and layout is different, but you read, post and reply much the same as you do now on boards.

And, the personal home pages (personas) have editing screens that walk you right through what to do. In fact, that's one of the things I'm going to be covering this week. :-)

We won't have a way to play with the personal pages before launch, but we are going to be putting up a test board so you all can check out the new board features.

I'll let you know as soon as that is ready.

Keep your questions coming!

Leona:

What would be nice is to see all the comments "collapsed" or the option to set it up that way.

Then the user could expand the posts they want to see.

That's the way my blog works and you are using the same platform.

Hi David,

Are you talking about comments here on this blog, or on the message boards?

On the blogs, we're using an older Blogger template that doesn't have the feature you mention. The message boards definitely have the option to expand or collapse message threads, however.

Hi there, bulldog!

First you have to log into your WebMD member account. Then, go to our Lupus message board here -- http://boards.webmd.com/webx?14@@.5987f43d.

At the top, under "In the Spotlight" you'll see the Lupus Chat Room link.

If you aren't logged into your member account, you won't see it listed, so be sure you log in first.
