Welcome to Pelvis World!

The moderators ("Mod Squad") here at WebMD have been asking me to do a blog, and also to share more of my feelings about being the ruler of "Pelvis World". I have been interested in women's health even before my graduation as a nurse practitioner in 1983. My teaching career began in 1989 when, after joining at faculty at Oregon Health & Science University, I gave a lecture that was an absolute bomb. I was using someone else's slides (pre-Powerpoint days), and was so nervous that I wrote out the lecture and read it! Those poor medical students were squirming in their seats it was so BAD. That lecture style had no place to go but to improve!

My first job with the early version of WebMD seemed like a good idea because I loved answering questions from patients, their families, and students. It also incorporated my love for learning something new everyday. Thanks to the amazing questions from all of you this has been one of my most favorite jobs (second only to being a cook in a macrobiotic restaurant for about 50 cents per hour). While I am feeling as nervous about "blog" as I did that first lecture, I will undoubtedly get accustomed to this new venue as well. With your excellent questions, we'll continue to explore new topics together...that makes it all worthwhile.

Yours,

Jane Harrison-Hohner aka the "Pelvis Queen"

Just wondering if you might be able to shed some light on this....
For several years I've suffered from pain in the pelvis or hip area which I contributed to the onset of arthritis. Some days are worse then others. About a week before my period its more noticable. Some mornings I wake up slowly crawling out of bed because the pain is so intense I can't move. About a year ago, it had started to ache during the day. Driving home from work, I sneezed and pain rushed in and I thought I would pass out. I had to have my family *try* to get me out of my car. I couldn't sit, stand, bend for a long time. I made an appointment with my doctor who examined me and said he couldn't figure it out but would have me take an x-ray. That being done he found nothing on it. Said it could have been tendinitis(?). I still have the pain (right side mainly) but not as bad as it was last year. Your thoughts on the matter?

I have similar symptoms. An MRI shows that I have a stress fracture in my pelvis. The theory is it developed from my long-distance running. Estimate is 6 weeks- 6 months to heal.

It's uncommon, my Dr. didn't catch it. I had to push for a referral to an Orthopedic surgeon.

Hi I'm doing a project for school about all the bones, muscles, and nerves involved in a movement and my movement is a pelvic thrust (like Elvis). I was just wondering if you knew which muscles, bones, joints, and nerves are used. Any information you have would be helpful. Thank you!
