Missed Your Period But You're Not Pregnant?
In addition to posting updates about important breakthroughs in women's health, there are some questions that many women ask on my message board. From time to time, I'll going to post some of the information I share with those women in the hope that it will help others who visit WebMD with similar questions.
A very common cause of a missed period is not having ovulated that cycle. In a normal cycle, estrogen is produced all month. Estrogen is responsible for building up the lining of your uterus so you have something to shed each month. In a normal cycle, progesterone production increases following ovulation.
Progesterone "stabilizes" the uterine lining in preparation for a possible implantation of a new pregnancy. If you are not pregnant that month the levels of estrogen and progesterone fall, triggering the release of the uterine lining - your period. So, if you do not ovulate, the estrogen build up of the lining continues, but without the usual ovulation-associated progesterone. Thus, the hormone levels don't decline, and the lining stays up inside the uterus - your missed period.
If you have been several months without a period, a gynecologist may give you some progesterone in a pill form (eg Provera 10 mg for 5 days). Within 48-72 hours after stopping the progesterone your "progesterone blood level" will fall, triggering the release of the lining that has been building up. Alternatively, the built-up lining may begin to shed under its own weight. Either way, women report that these periods are very heavy - as though several months of lining are shed.
Such flows can also be prolonged or have a stop and start pattern. The reason for this erratic or prolonged bleeding is this: without the progesterone the lining does not have a clean shed down to the base layer.
Causes for not ovulating are multifold: thyroid problems, pituitary problems, ovarian cysts, physical stressors (eg sudden increases in exercise, crash dieting), emotional stressors (problems with parents or boyfriends/girlfriends, exams), increased body weight, anorexia, rotating shifts at work, etc.
If the bleeding persists you should contact your GYN or clinic. The bleeding can be stopped with hormones, and any possible causes of not ovulating assessed. Hopefully your cycle will reset itself.

THIS WAS VERY HELPFUL
Especially for younger patients, ask your gyno about the possibility of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I have dealt with highly irregular cycles, ranging from 14-50+ days, even skipping a few months, for the 10+ years since I first got my period. From this and other side effects, my "cycles" drove me crazy. After prodding my most recent doctor, who initally related my problems to stress/increased exercise, I was given blood tests and (finally) diagnosed with PCOS.
The research I've done, though upsetting at times, has actually brought me comfort. There are lots of treatment options (I've gone a natural route) and so many groups available on the web. My only wish was that I was diagnosed with this when I first spoke to my doctor.
You should also add in information on missing your period and your not pregnant and on the pill. What does that mean?
I've had that happen 3 times in my life that I've been on the pill (8 years).
I would like to see something on why i would miss my period all together in April, have one that was for 2 weeks in May and in June i had one for 6 days, off of it for 6 days and then after i spotted for about 2 weeks. And this month NOTHING! My husband had a vasectomy and there is no cheating going on at all so you could get rid of that possibility! I am a mother of two kids, had my last one last December. I am not on birth control, however i am on phentermine but it never stopped my periods before (been on it since Feb. of this year) and i just got put on 60mg of Cymbalta for post partum depression. Like i said before the phentermine has never stopped it before. I am exercising daily and i lose anywhere from 1 pounds to 5 pounds a week. Usually in the lower brackets there. About 1-3 pounds a week. Would love to know why this is happening b/c like others its really annoying not being able to know about when your period is suppose to come. THANKS

I'm a little confused as to whats going on...I was on the ortho evra patch for over a year. When I stopped taking it my periods also stopped I didn't have one for 5 months, before my doctor said we'd try provera because I was not pregnant. I used the drug only to start my period and then it not return once again. I switched doctors because my doctor up and moved on me. I then told my problem to a new doctor who's decision was to put me again on birth control to start my period. I then had some other problems and had to quit that birth control. I again brought up my concern about not having a period only for him to say that my period was irregular and I had to be on birth control. I then read that while on birth control your really only having a "fake period" because your not really ovulating or whatever. So that again doesn't solve my problem. I again didn't start my period so he put me on Yaz. So I still do not have an answer as to why I do not bleed while not on birth control. Does anyone have any clue what I should do or if I should just switch doctors?
I have the same proble. I skip 3-4 months at a time when not on the pill. I have always skipped periods, the infrequency has just gotten worse over the years. Doctors have put me on diffent birth control pills over the years, but I get bad side effects from them. Anything from leg aches, to depression, lethargy, migranes, and now anxiety/drepression. I am at a loss too. I have a great Dr., but am sick of being put on pills that cause me to feel so uptight or depresant. Any suggestions?
I am in my young twenties and I have not had my period in 90 days. I got off the pill April, then had 2 healthy periods. My last period was june...I am not pregnant, I went to the doctor at 1 month missed period. The stresser is I want a baby. but then 2 more months went by. I think I match the symptoms of PCOS or maybe it's wacked out hormons...I am going to see a ob/gyn soon. I'll keeep you all updated what they will find...
It is very reassuring to know that there are other women out there who like me, seemed to have lost their periods when they stopped taking the pill. I was on YAZ for over a year and when I stopped, so did my periods. I haven't have a period in two months and it really bothers me. I've seen my doctor but she isn't concerned, either way, to me, it isn't normal.
OMG, I also have been having issues with a missed period and recently stopping birth control!! For 8 years I used birth control, I started with the pill and switched to the patch--I did about 4 years on each. The patch was the most recent and I quit using it in May. I had my cycle right after because I stopped it when my period was due and now I haven't had a period since MAY!!! The real kicker is I want to be pregnant and for some reason I can't even have a dang cycle! And of course I have family and friends all around me who are pregnant. I hope I'm ok and my body is just having a hard time adjusting...I have a gyno appt later this month...cross your fingers for me! thanks ladies for reading and knowing how I feel!!
is it ok to ask a question if someone can help me?
anyway, a week and half ago,my husband and I had sex and the condom broke and I'm not on bc...it was the last day of my period...could i get pregnant?
Im Glad to finally see that other women are having this problem. I am a healthy 25 year woman and I haven't had a period in 1 year. I've been to my doctor several times and even asked her to run the test for pcos. All she has done was give me Provera to take which I did and I received one period for around 9 days - that was in may. In July after taking birth control for about 5 days I began to spot. That lasted for abour 3 days. I'm scared and I don't think my doctor or family and friends are taking this as seriously as I am. I have wanted to children since I received my first doll. I am in a relationship with someone who also wants a family. Can someone please give me some advice?
wow reading this has deffinately made me feel better that there are other ppl out there experiancing the same things i am
i havent gotten my period since january. i was then given depo (the shot) and was told to come back when i got my next period to get the next shot i havent gotten it since and decided to stop the birth control because of the side effects.
leaning about pcos is also great cuz i can finaly get some answers from my doctor.
once again thx tons
I am in the same situation. I have been on the pill since '99. After being married for 2 years, we decided it is time to start a family. I got off the pill in May, had a normal period. In June, I had some spotting for a few days and about a week later, my period was heavy for about a week. June was the last time I had my period. I had an annual exam and everything looked and came up normal. The doctor doesn't seem concern about me missing my period for this long. She said there is medication for me to start my period again but I want to get pregnant so I don't want to be back on birth control. If I am not having my period, does it mean that I am not ovulating?
Can anyone help me? I can't seem to find much information on stress and missed periods. A test said I wasn't pregnant, but I've still missed my period by about 13-14 days. I am under a lot of stress and symptoms of stress seem to have the same symptoms as pregnancy. I've also had three of those early symptoms for most of my life. Do I believe the test and think it's just stress? We cannot afford a doctors visit right now.
I am a perfectly healthy 22 yr old female who has wanted to have a baby ever since I can remember. I have not been on birth control since I was around 17 and I vowed to myself I would never take it again. My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for about a year now and it doesnt seem to be working, the last period that I had was in July and I havent had one since, I took a pregnancy test last week and it came back negative. I have been under some stress lately due to finances, and home matters but I honestly think that I may be making my body think I am pregnant. I have gained weight, my breasts have gotten bigger, fatigue, sleeplessness, headaches, nausea, vomiting, excessive hunger, pretty much everything that a pregnant woman would go through. Why arent I pregnant? having a period? could I be pregnant eventhough the test was negative? Someone plz help with my questions. I dont have the money or insurance to go and see a GYN right now otherwise I would.
O.K. I never miss a period unless I'm pregnant and I am never late but this month I am now twenty days late. My last period was Aug. 11 but all the pregnancy tests I've taken have come out negative. I went to a Dr. a couple days ago and they told me to come back next week, take another test and if it is still negative then I should get checked out.
Is it really possible to make your body think you're pregnant? I want to be very badly so could I be forcing my body to do this?
No I'm not under any stress, no I'm not on birth control and haven't been for over a year, the hours I work have decreased as has the stress. I'm getting scared because if I am pregnant I need to get started on my blood thinners but if I'm not is there something else going on?
chie...
i'm a married woman i missed my period for this month, there's no intercourse going on for two months. i never take any birth control aside condom...
I was on birth control for about a year or so, and I got off of it in sometime at the end of last year. I started again and took it for only 2 months in May/June. I had my regular period in July, and in August I started spotting and had another period on Augst 27th that was extremely heavy. Heavier than any other period. And now I guess I was expecting to start my period around the 27th of September, but I haven't had it yet and today is already October 3rd. I took a test on the 30th and one yesterday (the 2nd) and they were both negative. Is there a chance its b/c of the birth control that is still messing with my system since June?! Is that even possible? I've threw up a couple a days and been having some bad cramps and my breasts are sore. What can this mean? And me and my boyfriend are trying to have a baby. Please update me on your feedback.
i was so happy to see that there are other ladies out there that have had the same problem i am currently experiencing. For the past 10 years i have tried multiple different birth control pills and always had some sort of side effect that has made me quit them. i tried the patch and loved it until it started to mess up my vision (it will make your eyes over-calcify causing problems with contact wearers). i had just put on my first week's patch when my eye doctor suggested removing it, a week later i had my period again and haven't seen it since. That was the 4th of July. Since then i have had two pregnancy tests (both negative), bloodwork (no problems) and been put on a pill for two weeks that was supposed to "re-send a signal to my body to ovulate" (no luck). i am going to see a new gyno on Monday and am hoping they can help me out. Thanks to those who posted their stories, but does anyone have any follow-up information?
I am a 23 year old female. I had a baby on may 13th I bleed for about 2 weeks afterwards and then 3 weeks after that i had a period that lasted for about 5 days well i have not had a period since but in july I had a pinkish tint in my urine for about 4 hours and that is it i have taken 2 pregnacy test both negative then i went to the doctor last week and they did a urine one and it was also negative the put me on yas and that was it. they did not say to come back or anything. If anyone has any suggestions. Please let me know. I am kinda worried.Thank you
It is really re-assuring to read others comments. I have been on BC for almost six years, now my husband and I are trying to concieve. However, now I am late and am still getting a negative on home pregnancy tests. I keep hearing that it is normal, but it seems like everyone else gets pregnant their first month off. Are their any tips out there? Is there anything I can do?
My situation is the same as many... on the pill for 6 years, went off it and got my period the next three months, but now have missed two periods and pregnancy tests are negative. I've scheduled a doctor's appointment but can't get in for a couple of weeks... I'm worried, though, and want answers sooner! Anyone who went to a doctor (rjluvtj, amber)know what could be going on? Thanks!
HI IM CONFUSED I WAS ON THE PILL BUT I STOOPED TAKING IT ON FRIDAY I HAVE STARTED MY PERIOD I AM IN A LOT OF PAIN PLEASE HELP.
I have been taking birth control for 5 years due to bad menstrual cycles. Anyways, My last period ended Sept. 16. The last time I had sex was Sept. 15. It was unprotected but we used the pull out method a good amount of time before he finished. According to my pills I was supposed to start Sunday, Oct. 7. I am never late so I took a test and it was negative. Although during this month of pills I had forgotten my pills and had to take a few white pills for the three days I did not have my already started package. then I went back to taking the package I already had been taking, Could this be a reason why I am late? Or could the test be wrong?
I have been off the pill for about 8 months. my period would come anywhere between the last week of the month to the first week of the month... i still have not gotten my period and have had unprtected sex with the pull out method.. i have taken 2 tests all came out negtive...i have no symptoms of my period coming or symptoms of pregnancy...i also did not feel that i had ovulated this month ( i usually know when i ovulated has anyone else had this problem please help
I'm a mother of 3 and had my tubes tied 12 years ago...I don't take any form of BC and I've never missed a period. I did have 2 periods a month for about 10 months this year then had 2 regular periods July and August but haven't had one since August 27th. I took a pregnacy test last week thinking I could be pregnant in my tubes but was negative. I've still yet to start my period and am stressed and worried over it. I'm 37 yrs old..could this be prementapause? If there is anyone else that has experienced this please share.

I went on here wondering if i would find anything and feld kind of alone that may be I was the odd ball out there with this problem. I havent been on birth control in about 4 years and my period has been fine every month 6-7 days and done. My face would break out and all the signs of starting would happen then here came aunt flow. I got marred in Sept of 2006 and my period actually missed so of course newly wed got a little worried. I was not pregnant ok good to go next month. Well this year I had my period in Jan and Feb then after that it stopped. I would have the before your periods but never a period. After four months i finally went to the doctor after receiving four neg pregnancy tests and my mother telling me to go. He did test thought that it was my thyroid, that was negative and did some more test and everything was fine. He said my body feels like it is pregnant and thinks i am pregnant. So the morning sickness the whole nine yards, my body thought i was pregnant but without baby. I was no longer ovulating. He put me on some pills for a few weeks I started my period within a week which was july. Come August it was a little late but i started like normal. Sept started about the same as august. Now come October Im missing it again. I have been under a lot of stress and am taking meds for depression. My question is with stress and depression could this be the reason why I am not ovulating? This month i am afraid to go get a test to watch it turn negative it would break my heart again, i am ready to have a baby and so is my husband. We use condoms but that is it. It is hard to desifer if its me or am i really pregnant.
I'm a healthy 27 year old, who is on birth control, and i have now missed my period for the 4th consecutive months. I am definitely not pregnant. Any ideas what's causing this. I have an appointment to see my doctor in the coming days, but i'd like to get some more insight prior to then. Thanks so much!
Hi This Cheryl,
I have a concern regarding me not having menstral period since my last child which would be 2 years ago. I have been to doctor a few times for this concern. But am getting nowhere. I am 36 and my husband and I want to have a forth child. My first 2 I had no problems getting my period after they were born. I breast fed them just like I am the third one.
What should I do next????
i was told from my doctor that not having periods i would not ovulate there for couldnot get pregnant, he put me on bc to help regulate my periods he said to tke them for 6 months and then quit and try to get preg. well i have a hard time remebering to take it, plus it made my boobs hurt real bad , which he explained that i was storing estrogen in my breast, so i quit taking the pill after a month and about 3 months i had a period so i thought, i had things coming out that were not blood clots so i went to him and found out that i the one who wouldnt get preg was having a misscarriage imagine my surprise. 4 months later i was preg again. then when she was 10 months old i ws preg again. so much for not being able to have kids huh, ne way my daughter is 29 months old and i havent had a period since she was 3 months old. am i lucky or is there something wrong.
hey amy if you are trying for a baby, then i think you should quit using condoms it may not be you or him and it might better your chances, but hey i am no doctor
I am experiencing the same kind of thing - I always had irregular periods, then was on the pill for about 10 years. After I went off, I went 4 months before getting a period, then got no period for another 6 months. I went to my gyn, who put me on provera, which only caused one hour of light spotting. So then I was put back on a different kind of pill (I took Alesse, which they don't make now) and I got terrible side effects and stopped. I did get a period then, but have not had one since, which was 3 months ago. I've been tested for PCOS, thyroid disease, had a sonogram, everything under the sun and there are no answers!!! My gyn says I should just go on Yaz or some other pill to see how that works or I will be in a menoupause-like state and start losing bone mass! Has anyone else been told this?
I have a question for all of you. I am 25 and havent been on BC for over 5 years. I have Pelvic Congestion Syndrome. Me and my husband are trying to get pregnant so I am doing all the things my doc told me to quit smoking take prenatal vitamins. Pregnancy test say I am not pregnant but I have the morning sickness dizziness fatigue..but no baby! The doctor seems to think that when it is time for me to be fertile my hormones go so out of wack that it makes me have all these symptoms. Any ideas or has anyone ever experienced it.
ok first let me just say i'm glad i'm not the only onw with this problem. So Doc or anyone one else he is my story, hope someone can shed some light: when i first got my period i have always been irregular; every other month to me that was regular, then ad time goes one a girl grows up, "sexually active" and i get my perios every month, may not be the same time but you get the idea, so then i get hurt at work went for surgry didn't get it for 8 months when it did come it was had fjor one week then stop got it 4 days later for 3 days stoped got it 3 weeks later lasted 7 days. so i went to the dr's and they put me onpure estrogen then went to another doc (changed health ins, husband deployed) they toolk me off estrogen put me on the pill, get thought i was fiex got it every month, right on time, lasted 3 days, wonderful. i wanted to get pregnant so doc only put me on for a year while my husband did his tour. doc said tht the pill worked got me back on cycle and when i got off it don't worry if i was a little late with my first cycle. thnigs went great for the first 4 months then BAM!! NOTHING like i said in the beginnig have not gotten it for 8 months now and i am not pregnant. don't know what to do? i get the ""symptoms" sore boobs, lower back pain, bloating, but no period. I am at such a lost i don't know what to do, any ideas, thoughts.
its so nice to see im not the only one with this problem the only difference is ive never been on birth control i am 17 and havent had a period in like 6 months i started when i was 14 and they werent regular,a couple months ago i thought i would start bacause i was spotting ive done several pregnancy tests just to be sure and all were negative im really scared and frustrated i was hoping someone here would have some ideas too what i should do.
I am SO glad i looked on here. This website always has answers when i need them. I also just like to read for fun because i'm planning on being a medical Student in college. Here's what i would like to know: I am 16 going on 17 and i haven't had a period for the last two months. I'm not pregnant and that's for sure. I'm not on the pill or any medications. I know it is normal for a girl my age to be irregular, but i have never missed two months in a row before. I also realize it could be the large amount of stress I have been under lately with school and work. Is there anything else it could be? Any answers would be GREAT! I'm going to the OBGYN next week sometime but I'm just confused and it's reallly hard to explain to my dad whats the problem (i live with just him and he takes care of everything). If there is anything you guys can answer, please do let me know! THANKS!!
I quit taking the pill and missed a few periods, took test & not pregnant. Two more months ,no period & Dr. did a blood test and still not pregnant. One and 1/2 months later still no period, went to the Dr. and guess what.. 6 weeks PREGNANT. I think the pill just messes up your hormones, anything is possiable.
TO GRETCHEN- A similar thing happened to me and I got pregnant, even without having a period for around six months. At six months with no period I Finally found out I was six weeks pregnant. I just decided I was probably sooo stressed out because I wanted to be pregnant so bad that I did'nt have a period. Somewhere in there I guess I ovulated because I got pregnant and now my son is 5 months old. I know it's hard not to stress. I had quit drinking because I wanted to get preg and was told it would be eaiser to get preg if I didnt drink. Well due to all the stress my friend gave me the best peice of advice: Workout a few times a week to reduce stress & kick back and have a glass or two of wine. Bam, pregnant. I hope this helps a bit.
Good luck!!
hey ladies,
Well, it's taken me forever to repost, but here I am. My name changed too, but whatever. So, I finally went to the doctor and he said there is nothing to worry about. He said it's normal to go 6-12 months without a period after stopping birth control. I've been going to this doctor for 15 years, so I trust him! He told me we can run some blood tests to check my hormone levels, but I'm going to wait on that. anywho, don't worry ladies, it's normal to not have a period...I'm almost to 6 months without one...I believe that we're all ok, we just really confused our bodies by being on birth control! with that said, good luck ladies! Take care!!
WOW! After looking for so long on the internet i finally found this page. I thought I was the only one. Right now I am expierencing bad cramps and back pain. I have only had 2 periods in the last 2 years. I stopped BC 3 years ago. My boyfriend and i decided to have a baby! Im concerned i can't because i don't have periods.
I was diagnosed with a "hormonal imbalance" when i was 25 and im now 31.
Is it possible i am pregnant or do i need hormonal pills?

Hey ladies...
just an update:
I'M PREGNANT!!!!!
I'm so excited! I've been feeling sick the past couple of weeks and yesterday I bought a two pack of tests and they both came out positive INSTANTLY!! YAY!!
I'm shocked it happened since I haven't had a period in months, but something happened. :) I have no idea how far I am, I'm guessing 4-6 weeks...somewhere in that range.
I'll keep you all posted on my progress.
My name is Jessica and i am 23 years old. i have not had a period since May 15, 2006, yes i know that is a long time, the doctors have put me on birth control pills, they didnt work. I recently found out that i am a dibetic. I have to watch what i eat, i exercise daily, and i am on meds for the dibetic. The doctor said that i will soon have a period, but guess what i havent. If anybody has any information on what i should do please let me know.
I am a 23 year old female. I have had irregular periods since i was about 14. My husband and i have been trying to get pregnant for almost 2 years now and haven't had any luck. THe doctor says he can't find anything wrong with either of us. I just don't ovulate every month so that drops my number of chances. I only have a period every 2-3 months. For about a week now, i have had nausea and vomiting and felt more tired than usual. I took a couple of home test and all were negative. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be or what i can do to help it?
Hello I am a 26 year old and I was on the pill for about 10 years. I tried so hard to not get pregnant in my teens and early 20's I wonder if this is why I am having problems now. I have been married for 2 years and I stopped taking my pills in June. I had a normal cycle in July and a little one in Sept but that is it. Everyone around me is getting pregnant when they were not planning to and it is really frustrating. I dont want to tell any of my family that we have been trying because my husband and I are the youngest siblings in our families and we have been pestered since before we got married about kids. I just want someone to talk to. I have taken about 4 home tests, all negative, and been to the doctor and she said it is normal by body is just tring to adjust. Is there anything I can do to help my chances of getting pregnant? I try not to worry about it but women in my family are very fertile and have had no problem getting pregnant, most by accident or within 2 weeks of trying. Can something be wrong with me? Help!

I have been having irregular periods for about 6-7 months now. I had gained some weight and so the doctors thought that this might be the cause of my issues. My husband and I have been trying for about a year with now luck of pregnancy. I just recently went to the doctor and they put me on provera to induce a period. It has been three days since my last dose, and so far, I haven't started. What is the normal time frame for starting after taking provera? Once I start my period, I will be taking Clomid to help with ovulation. If you have taken just provera, and haven't gotten pregnant, maybe the next step is to look into taking clomid as well.
We have been trying for 10 months to get pregnant and I stopped the LO-DEPO shot in January my periods were regular until this last month I didn't have a period for 60 days they put me on PROvera to start my period I did 2 test 1 blood not pregnant I had the feeling of being pregnant but your mind is very poerful so if you wish and think you are it can play tricks on you. I started my period after 10 days of PROVERA my period is not very heavy is this okay? And the doctor wants to put me on CHLOMIDE twins run on both my husbande and my side so does this increas our chances? The doctor said there is 10% chance of twins so how much does that increase ours?
I also have a great consern! I really want to have children in the future. I haven't started my period for 2 months but I have had about 8 yeast infections in the last 8 months! My doc. also told me about giving me progesterone shots and then putting me on bc. How will this affect me on my plans on having children by the end of next year?

I Don't know if I have missed or will get my period soon. I had my last period on October 18 and it lasted for 2 days, my periods usually last 5 days. It is the 20th of November now and I still don't have my period. I have had my periods regulary. I haven't had sex since august 4th. I have taken two pregnancy tests in the first week of August and they both were negative. We were some concerned and I took three more. All of the tests came back negative. I hit my head and had a slight concussion. I went to the doctor, and my symptoms from the concussion weren't getting any better so they tested my blood for pregnancy. The results came back negative. I haven't gained any weight or anything to suggest I am pregnant, after all If I was I would have gained a little bit of weight by now. I feel so tired, I don't feel like eating so much some days, but other days I do. I feel bloated sometimes, and fine the next. I have had a lot of stress lately about finances and school. I am away from my love, and that too is making me stressed. Can I be pregnant if I have had my period up until now, 4 months later? Can I be pregnant if the doctors took my blood and it was negative like the pregnancy tests? Someone help me..Im worried and afraid..
I have recently been diagnosed with 2 differant forms of blood clots. In the last 3 years I have had 2 miscarriages and for the last year, I have been trying to get pregnant. For about the last 6-7 months, my periods have only been lasting for 1 day, disappear, and then spotting a few days later. I do not think I have been ovulating. I started taking daily asprin, folic acid and multi-vitamins 3 months ago and still no luck. Does anyone have any advise? I am really worried I may not be able to get pregnant.
Hi ladies...
I stopped taking BC in July and was a week and a half late on my first period after BC. Then I had two periods after that, which were very regular (28 days exactly). My husband and I were still using condoms until around the second week of October and then started using nothing because we wanted to try to have a baby...very exciting! Well, my last period started on October 18, so I would have been due to get it again last Thursday (28 days)...it never came. Of course I was somewhat excited so I took a hpt on Friday and it was negative. For the last 2 weeks now I have felt like I would get my period any second...a little crampy and bloated, etc., but still no period. Now, I am 6 days late and I just took another hpt this morning and it again came back negative. Very disappointing, but even more so confusing. I have always been regular with my periods, even before I went on BC...I have never missed a period. This is just so weird that I have gone this long and still no sign of it. I also feel a little light-headed at times, but no sore breasts or anything. I too feel like it might just be in my head. Some women have said that the hpt showed negative up until they were quite far along. I took the e.p.t. Certainty (digital) test. Has anyone taken that test and had it show negative only to later find out you were pregnant? Just curious. I'm just wondering if the digital method hasn't been perfected yet.
I have not had my period in 2months. this has never happen to me. but i went to the ER about 2weeks ago an they gave me a pergo tests an it says that im not pergo. so idk what to do. and im not on the pill or anything...can it be from stress??
i havent had my period for almost two months now the last time i got it was the end of september, in august i missed my period also so i thought the same thing happened again that i missed my period due to stress so now i still didnt get my period i took a pregnancy test the other day it came out negative and still nothing yet ive never been on any birth control..what can be the problem??
I am 52 yrs old and have had regular, normal cycles up through October. I have not had my period yet in November, but I do feel pressure as I would right before a period as well as discharge.
I am on Synthroid.
Could I be starting menopause and if so does it come on this quickly.
Thank you.
I'm 28,mother of 3. I had my tubes tide 4yrs this Dec.9th. I've never had any problems with my cycle, usually start every 21 to 28 days and last 4-7days. Well this year Oct.25 was my last period and like most of these women the test i took was neg. I still have these weird signs like i feel pregnant but they're mostly vague. It may just be hormones, i don't know. I did make an appointment but it's not till the first of the year. I was just wondering if there was any other cases like mine and what may be the cause.
I am 21 years old and I haven't had my period for about 2 months. the last time was early October. I'm not on the pill. Could I be pregnant, or could their be another problem?
Hey ladies! Like many of you I thought I was the only one with this problem. I had my daughter in August 2006. I got a normal period the first month after, but then nothing. I was on birth control so I really didn't notice, because I was bleeding a little bit, I just thought it was from the pregnancy still. Well I have been to the doctor several times and we have tried hormones and types of birth control. I do get some sort of a period but it is very irregular. My only concern is, when you don't get your period, there is a build-up of estrogen, and isn't that bad for you? I just want to figure out what is going on. I do eventually want to have more kids.
Has anyone taken Prometrium to help them start their period? If so how long did it take before your period started while on Prometrium?
im 18 years old and recently lost my virginity...my period is normally irregular so i thought nothing of it when i had no period for a month...but i had not period after 4 months!!!! i took countless test n went to the doc..but it was all negative...one night i had horrible cramps n a very heavy flow with lots of clots???
did i have a miscarriage???
Hi, I'm knocking on 29, heathly, maybe a few pounds overweight. I had my tubes tied almost 4 years ago. Take no birth control, my husband does not use a condom. My periods came to a stop, August 17th was my last day. I have took numerous pregnancy tests, all come up negative. SHEW! I have 3 kids, all easy natural births, no complications. My last child, I bled for almost 2 years, My ob put my on 5 bc pills a day to stop the bleeding. It was more aggervating than worrying back then. Now, I am having terrible pain between my shoulder blades on my back, and i have started to 'form' the baby belly. THIS SCARES ME TO DEATH. I can't afford to have any more children. Much like some of the rest of you, I can not afford to go see my doctor. 177$ office visit, plus whatever other tests he thinks could be ran. Even the local health department is 75$. Anyone have any suggestions? I've changed my diet, I excercise more, still pretty stressed out. What should I do?

Leah, so far you're the only one on the blog that I can somewhat relate to. Although many of you are having problems getting your period after stopping birth control pills when you were on them for so long (as is my situation), my question is, are any of you having cramps during the months you don't get your periods? I'm in my late 20's, I went off of BC ring in September. October was a 28 day cycle. I had my period again at the beginning of November. However, on November 25th, I had cramps that lasted 12 hours. I assumed they were ovulating cramps. So, I didn't have sex with my husband for 3 days after that (giving time for my egg to "die"). I have been to the dr., had a urine test, and was neg. She said, however, that it's possible that I can be pregnant, because even though irregular periods can go for months/years without having a period, IF YOU OVULATE (which I assume was the cramping b/c there was no period), women get their periods anywhere from 12-16 days after. That is an almost 100% guarantee FOR EVERY WOMAN, REGULAR OR IRREGULAR. Because I'm over the 12-16 day mark (I had the dr. test on the 17th day from "ovulation"), I bought a pregnancy test, and it says if you're irregular, take 19 days after the day you think you got pregnant. That's tomorrow. I'll take the test in the morning, and then again 3 days later if it's neg. I'll keep you all posted. If anyone has any info in the meantime, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
hi everyone i am 28 yrs old with 4 kids..my tubes are tied..i have been worried cause i just dont get my period no more i thought i was just lucky but it has been a year!! i have always been irregular but not like this.. people are telling me i could really be sick,i have no health insurece and i was just wondering if someone could give me advise!! by emailing me at shellsimpson79@yahoo.com thankyou!
I'm a 44 year old married mom of three. Our youngest is 10. I'm not on the pill and haven't had it in 20+ years. I have had consistent periods about every 25 to 29 days for most if not all of my life. This month I am now 32 days with no period. Pregnancy test was negtive so I've made plans to go to my doc's office. Any other 40 something year olds my age in this same boat? If so have you found anything out?
Thanks,
I am 26 year old woman. Since I started puberty at 12, my periods were always irregular. I had a miscarriage in June this year, it was all so fast I had no idea I was pregnant in the first place, I would have only been pregnant for 2 or 3 weeks tops, still, its very upsetting. Anyway, since this miscarriage my periods have actually been very regular, right on time. I've also been using ovulation trackers, and compared to the past few months, I should have gotten my period on 12/17. It's now 6 days later and I still have not gotten my period. I took an at home pregnancy test yesterday morning but it came back negative. I figure I will wait 4-5 more days and test again and see what happens, that is if I don't end up getting my period before hand. But this is a first for me. I have never missed a period before so I have no idea what's going on, although sometimes the I'd have cycles that would be anywhere from 30-45 days, but my past 3 cycles were exactly 32 days and it is now the 37th day. Yesterday was 19 days (too long, lol) since the last time hubby and I had sex so I would think if I really am pregnant, then the stick shouldn't have given me a false negative? I kinda hope to be pregnant, but seeing negative results is a downer...
im in a situation were I have been off the pills for know 6 month and dont have periods and when I do they are not full periods and I think the last time I had to by tampons or pads was 6 months ago so thats pretty light I dont get any symptoms what so ever now im 33 and would like to get pregnant I have 2 children and have had no issues in the past however I have never had this happen. If thier are any answers please let me know.

Hey ladies!!!
I am so happy I found this page. My question is, why OH WHY is it that all of us and probably many, many others have had this problem but no doctor likes to tell us what is going on? I have not had a period for over two years! I am 21 years old and I would like to have a baby sometime. I was at a GYN last July and they simply told me I didnt have a period probably because of the onset of anorexia.... ummm.... i weigh 200 lbs. I almost choked laughing!
I am getting out of the sticks and going to a doctor in a real city in February, so i'll keep you posted, hopefully I will get an answer that makes sense.
i actually had a question if anyone could help me.
I recently found out im a anemic. and i has to start taking vitamins. I had my period in a regular cycle. And now i am late by 7 days. I dont think there is a chance of pregnancy. Has anyone else heard of something like this???
