Missed Your Period But You're Not Pregnant?
In addition to posting updates about important breakthroughs in women's health, there are some questions that many women ask on my message board. From time to time, I'll going to post some of the information I share with those women in the hope that it will help others who visit WebMD with similar questions.
A very common cause of a missed period is not having ovulated that cycle. In a normal cycle, estrogen is produced all month. Estrogen is responsible for building up the lining of your uterus so you have something to shed each month. In a normal cycle, progesterone production increases following ovulation.
Progesterone "stabilizes" the uterine lining in preparation for a possible implantation of a new pregnancy. If you are not pregnant that month the levels of estrogen and progesterone fall, triggering the release of the uterine lining - your period. So, if you do not ovulate, the estrogen build up of the lining continues, but without the usual ovulation-associated progesterone. Thus, the hormone levels don't decline, and the lining stays up inside the uterus - your missed period.
If you have been several months without a period, a gynecologist may give you some progesterone in a pill form (eg Provera 10 mg for 5 days). Within 48-72 hours after stopping the progesterone your "progesterone blood level" will fall, triggering the release of the lining that has been building up. Alternatively, the built-up lining may begin to shed under its own weight. Either way, women report that these periods are very heavy - as though several months of lining are shed.
Such flows can also be prolonged or have a stop and start pattern. The reason for this erratic or prolonged bleeding is this: without the progesterone the lining does not have a clean shed down to the base layer.
Causes for not ovulating are multifold: thyroid problems, pituitary problems, ovarian cysts, physical stressors (eg sudden increases in exercise, crash dieting), emotional stressors (problems with parents or boyfriends/girlfriends, exams), increased body weight, anorexia, rotating shifts at work, etc.
If the bleeding persists you should contact your GYN or clinic. The bleeding can be stopped with hormones, and any possible causes of not ovulating assessed. Hopefully your cycle will reset itself.

THIS WAS VERY HELPFUL
Especially for younger patients, ask your gyno about the possibility of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I have dealt with highly irregular cycles, ranging from 14-50+ days, even skipping a few months, for the 10+ years since I first got my period. From this and other side effects, my "cycles" drove me crazy. After prodding my most recent doctor, who initally related my problems to stress/increased exercise, I was given blood tests and (finally) diagnosed with PCOS.
The research I've done, though upsetting at times, has actually brought me comfort. There are lots of treatment options (I've gone a natural route) and so many groups available on the web. My only wish was that I was diagnosed with this when I first spoke to my doctor.
You should also add in information on missing your period and your not pregnant and on the pill. What does that mean?
I've had that happen 3 times in my life that I've been on the pill (8 years).
I would like to see something on why i would miss my period all together in April, have one that was for 2 weeks in May and in June i had one for 6 days, off of it for 6 days and then after i spotted for about 2 weeks. And this month NOTHING! My husband had a vasectomy and there is no cheating going on at all so you could get rid of that possibility! I am a mother of two kids, had my last one last December. I am not on birth control, however i am on phentermine but it never stopped my periods before (been on it since Feb. of this year) and i just got put on 60mg of Cymbalta for post partum depression. Like i said before the phentermine has never stopped it before. I am exercising daily and i lose anywhere from 1 pounds to 5 pounds a week. Usually in the lower brackets there. About 1-3 pounds a week. Would love to know why this is happening b/c like others its really annoying not being able to know about when your period is suppose to come. THANKS

I'm a little confused as to whats going on...I was on the ortho evra patch for over a year. When I stopped taking it my periods also stopped I didn't have one for 5 months, before my doctor said we'd try provera because I was not pregnant. I used the drug only to start my period and then it not return once again. I switched doctors because my doctor up and moved on me. I then told my problem to a new doctor who's decision was to put me again on birth control to start my period. I then had some other problems and had to quit that birth control. I again brought up my concern about not having a period only for him to say that my period was irregular and I had to be on birth control. I then read that while on birth control your really only having a "fake period" because your not really ovulating or whatever. So that again doesn't solve my problem. I again didn't start my period so he put me on Yaz. So I still do not have an answer as to why I do not bleed while not on birth control. Does anyone have any clue what I should do or if I should just switch doctors?
I have the same proble. I skip 3-4 months at a time when not on the pill. I have always skipped periods, the infrequency has just gotten worse over the years. Doctors have put me on diffent birth control pills over the years, but I get bad side effects from them. Anything from leg aches, to depression, lethargy, migranes, and now anxiety/drepression. I am at a loss too. I have a great Dr., but am sick of being put on pills that cause me to feel so uptight or depresant. Any suggestions?
I am in my young twenties and I have not had my period in 90 days. I got off the pill April, then had 2 healthy periods. My last period was june...I am not pregnant, I went to the doctor at 1 month missed period. The stresser is I want a baby. but then 2 more months went by. I think I match the symptoms of PCOS or maybe it's wacked out hormons...I am going to see a ob/gyn soon. I'll keeep you all updated what they will find...
It is very reassuring to know that there are other women out there who like me, seemed to have lost their periods when they stopped taking the pill. I was on YAZ for over a year and when I stopped, so did my periods. I haven't have a period in two months and it really bothers me. I've seen my doctor but she isn't concerned, either way, to me, it isn't normal.
OMG, I also have been having issues with a missed period and recently stopping birth control!! For 8 years I used birth control, I started with the pill and switched to the patch--I did about 4 years on each. The patch was the most recent and I quit using it in May. I had my cycle right after because I stopped it when my period was due and now I haven't had a period since MAY!!! The real kicker is I want to be pregnant and for some reason I can't even have a dang cycle! And of course I have family and friends all around me who are pregnant. I hope I'm ok and my body is just having a hard time adjusting...I have a gyno appt later this month...cross your fingers for me! thanks ladies for reading and knowing how I feel!!
is it ok to ask a question if someone can help me?
anyway, a week and half ago,my husband and I had sex and the condom broke and I'm not on bc...it was the last day of my period...could i get pregnant?
Im Glad to finally see that other women are having this problem. I am a healthy 25 year woman and I haven't had a period in 1 year. I've been to my doctor several times and even asked her to run the test for pcos. All she has done was give me Provera to take which I did and I received one period for around 9 days - that was in may. In July after taking birth control for about 5 days I began to spot. That lasted for abour 3 days. I'm scared and I don't think my doctor or family and friends are taking this as seriously as I am. I have wanted to children since I received my first doll. I am in a relationship with someone who also wants a family. Can someone please give me some advice?
wow reading this has deffinately made me feel better that there are other ppl out there experiancing the same things i am
i havent gotten my period since january. i was then given depo (the shot) and was told to come back when i got my next period to get the next shot i havent gotten it since and decided to stop the birth control because of the side effects.
leaning about pcos is also great cuz i can finaly get some answers from my doctor.
once again thx tons
I am in the same situation. I have been on the pill since '99. After being married for 2 years, we decided it is time to start a family. I got off the pill in May, had a normal period. In June, I had some spotting for a few days and about a week later, my period was heavy for about a week. June was the last time I had my period. I had an annual exam and everything looked and came up normal. The doctor doesn't seem concern about me missing my period for this long. She said there is medication for me to start my period again but I want to get pregnant so I don't want to be back on birth control. If I am not having my period, does it mean that I am not ovulating?
Can anyone help me? I can't seem to find much information on stress and missed periods. A test said I wasn't pregnant, but I've still missed my period by about 13-14 days. I am under a lot of stress and symptoms of stress seem to have the same symptoms as pregnancy. I've also had three of those early symptoms for most of my life. Do I believe the test and think it's just stress? We cannot afford a doctors visit right now.
I am a perfectly healthy 22 yr old female who has wanted to have a baby ever since I can remember. I have not been on birth control since I was around 17 and I vowed to myself I would never take it again. My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for about a year now and it doesnt seem to be working, the last period that I had was in July and I havent had one since, I took a pregnancy test last week and it came back negative. I have been under some stress lately due to finances, and home matters but I honestly think that I may be making my body think I am pregnant. I have gained weight, my breasts have gotten bigger, fatigue, sleeplessness, headaches, nausea, vomiting, excessive hunger, pretty much everything that a pregnant woman would go through. Why arent I pregnant? having a period? could I be pregnant eventhough the test was negative? Someone plz help with my questions. I dont have the money or insurance to go and see a GYN right now otherwise I would.
O.K. I never miss a period unless I'm pregnant and I am never late but this month I am now twenty days late. My last period was Aug. 11 but all the pregnancy tests I've taken have come out negative. I went to a Dr. a couple days ago and they told me to come back next week, take another test and if it is still negative then I should get checked out.
Is it really possible to make your body think you're pregnant? I want to be very badly so could I be forcing my body to do this?
No I'm not under any stress, no I'm not on birth control and haven't been for over a year, the hours I work have decreased as has the stress. I'm getting scared because if I am pregnant I need to get started on my blood thinners but if I'm not is there something else going on?
chie...
i'm a married woman i missed my period for this month, there's no intercourse going on for two months. i never take any birth control aside condom...
I was on birth control for about a year or so, and I got off of it in sometime at the end of last year. I started again and took it for only 2 months in May/June. I had my regular period in July, and in August I started spotting and had another period on Augst 27th that was extremely heavy. Heavier than any other period. And now I guess I was expecting to start my period around the 27th of September, but I haven't had it yet and today is already October 3rd. I took a test on the 30th and one yesterday (the 2nd) and they were both negative. Is there a chance its b/c of the birth control that is still messing with my system since June?! Is that even possible? I've threw up a couple a days and been having some bad cramps and my breasts are sore. What can this mean? And me and my boyfriend are trying to have a baby. Please update me on your feedback.
i was so happy to see that there are other ladies out there that have had the same problem i am currently experiencing. For the past 10 years i have tried multiple different birth control pills and always had some sort of side effect that has made me quit them. i tried the patch and loved it until it started to mess up my vision (it will make your eyes over-calcify causing problems with contact wearers). i had just put on my first week's patch when my eye doctor suggested removing it, a week later i had my period again and haven't seen it since. That was the 4th of July. Since then i have had two pregnancy tests (both negative), bloodwork (no problems) and been put on a pill for two weeks that was supposed to "re-send a signal to my body to ovulate" (no luck). i am going to see a new gyno on Monday and am hoping they can help me out. Thanks to those who posted their stories, but does anyone have any follow-up information?
I am a 23 year old female. I had a baby on may 13th I bleed for about 2 weeks afterwards and then 3 weeks after that i had a period that lasted for about 5 days well i have not had a period since but in july I had a pinkish tint in my urine for about 4 hours and that is it i have taken 2 pregnacy test both negative then i went to the doctor last week and they did a urine one and it was also negative the put me on yas and that was it. they did not say to come back or anything. If anyone has any suggestions. Please let me know. I am kinda worried.Thank you
It is really re-assuring to read others comments. I have been on BC for almost six years, now my husband and I are trying to concieve. However, now I am late and am still getting a negative on home pregnancy tests. I keep hearing that it is normal, but it seems like everyone else gets pregnant their first month off. Are their any tips out there? Is there anything I can do?
My situation is the same as many... on the pill for 6 years, went off it and got my period the next three months, but now have missed two periods and pregnancy tests are negative. I've scheduled a doctor's appointment but can't get in for a couple of weeks... I'm worried, though, and want answers sooner! Anyone who went to a doctor (rjluvtj, amber)know what could be going on? Thanks!
HI IM CONFUSED I WAS ON THE PILL BUT I STOOPED TAKING IT ON FRIDAY I HAVE STARTED MY PERIOD I AM IN A LOT OF PAIN PLEASE HELP.
I have been taking birth control for 5 years due to bad menstrual cycles. Anyways, My last period ended Sept. 16. The last time I had sex was Sept. 15. It was unprotected but we used the pull out method a good amount of time before he finished. According to my pills I was supposed to start Sunday, Oct. 7. I am never late so I took a test and it was negative. Although during this month of pills I had forgotten my pills and had to take a few white pills for the three days I did not have my already started package. then I went back to taking the package I already had been taking, Could this be a reason why I am late? Or could the test be wrong?
I have been off the pill for about 8 months. my period would come anywhere between the last week of the month to the first week of the month... i still have not gotten my period and have had unprtected sex with the pull out method.. i have taken 2 tests all came out negtive...i have no symptoms of my period coming or symptoms of pregnancy...i also did not feel that i had ovulated this month ( i usually know when i ovulated has anyone else had this problem please help
I'm a mother of 3 and had my tubes tied 12 years ago...I don't take any form of BC and I've never missed a period. I did have 2 periods a month for about 10 months this year then had 2 regular periods July and August but haven't had one since August 27th. I took a pregnacy test last week thinking I could be pregnant in my tubes but was negative. I've still yet to start my period and am stressed and worried over it. I'm 37 yrs old..could this be prementapause? If there is anyone else that has experienced this please share.

I went on here wondering if i would find anything and feld kind of alone that may be I was the odd ball out there with this problem. I havent been on birth control in about 4 years and my period has been fine every month 6-7 days and done. My face would break out and all the signs of starting would happen then here came aunt flow. I got marred in Sept of 2006 and my period actually missed so of course newly wed got a little worried. I was not pregnant ok good to go next month. Well this year I had my period in Jan and Feb then after that it stopped. I would have the before your periods but never a period. After four months i finally went to the doctor after receiving four neg pregnancy tests and my mother telling me to go. He did test thought that it was my thyroid, that was negative and did some more test and everything was fine. He said my body feels like it is pregnant and thinks i am pregnant. So the morning sickness the whole nine yards, my body thought i was pregnant but without baby. I was no longer ovulating. He put me on some pills for a few weeks I started my period within a week which was july. Come August it was a little late but i started like normal. Sept started about the same as august. Now come October Im missing it again. I have been under a lot of stress and am taking meds for depression. My question is with stress and depression could this be the reason why I am not ovulating? This month i am afraid to go get a test to watch it turn negative it would break my heart again, i am ready to have a baby and so is my husband. We use condoms but that is it. It is hard to desifer if its me or am i really pregnant.
I'm a healthy 27 year old, who is on birth control, and i have now missed my period for the 4th consecutive months. I am definitely not pregnant. Any ideas what's causing this. I have an appointment to see my doctor in the coming days, but i'd like to get some more insight prior to then. Thanks so much!
Hi This Cheryl,
I have a concern regarding me not having menstral period since my last child which would be 2 years ago. I have been to doctor a few times for this concern. But am getting nowhere. I am 36 and my husband and I want to have a forth child. My first 2 I had no problems getting my period after they were born. I breast fed them just like I am the third one.
What should I do next????
i was told from my doctor that not having periods i would not ovulate there for couldnot get pregnant, he put me on bc to help regulate my periods he said to tke them for 6 months and then quit and try to get preg. well i have a hard time remebering to take it, plus it made my boobs hurt real bad , which he explained that i was storing estrogen in my breast, so i quit taking the pill after a month and about 3 months i had a period so i thought, i had things coming out that were not blood clots so i went to him and found out that i the one who wouldnt get preg was having a misscarriage imagine my surprise. 4 months later i was preg again. then when she was 10 months old i ws preg again. so much for not being able to have kids huh, ne way my daughter is 29 months old and i havent had a period since she was 3 months old. am i lucky or is there something wrong.
hey amy if you are trying for a baby, then i think you should quit using condoms it may not be you or him and it might better your chances, but hey i am no doctor
I am experiencing the same kind of thing - I always had irregular periods, then was on the pill for about 10 years. After I went off, I went 4 months before getting a period, then got no period for another 6 months. I went to my gyn, who put me on provera, which only caused one hour of light spotting. So then I was put back on a different kind of pill (I took Alesse, which they don't make now) and I got terrible side effects and stopped. I did get a period then, but have not had one since, which was 3 months ago. I've been tested for PCOS, thyroid disease, had a sonogram, everything under the sun and there are no answers!!! My gyn says I should just go on Yaz or some other pill to see how that works or I will be in a menoupause-like state and start losing bone mass! Has anyone else been told this?
I have a question for all of you. I am 25 and havent been on BC for over 5 years. I have Pelvic Congestion Syndrome. Me and my husband are trying to get pregnant so I am doing all the things my doc told me to quit smoking take prenatal vitamins. Pregnancy test say I am not pregnant but I have the morning sickness dizziness fatigue..but no baby! The doctor seems to think that when it is time for me to be fertile my hormones go so out of wack that it makes me have all these symptoms. Any ideas or has anyone ever experienced it.
ok first let me just say i'm glad i'm not the only onw with this problem. So Doc or anyone one else he is my story, hope someone can shed some light: when i first got my period i have always been irregular; every other month to me that was regular, then ad time goes one a girl grows up, "sexually active" and i get my perios every month, may not be the same time but you get the idea, so then i get hurt at work went for surgry didn't get it for 8 months when it did come it was had fjor one week then stop got it 4 days later for 3 days stoped got it 3 weeks later lasted 7 days. so i went to the dr's and they put me onpure estrogen then went to another doc (changed health ins, husband deployed) they toolk me off estrogen put me on the pill, get thought i was fiex got it every month, right on time, lasted 3 days, wonderful. i wanted to get pregnant so doc only put me on for a year while my husband did his tour. doc said tht the pill worked got me back on cycle and when i got off it don't worry if i was a little late with my first cycle. thnigs went great for the first 4 months then BAM!! NOTHING like i said in the beginnig have not gotten it for 8 months now and i am not pregnant. don't know what to do? i get the ""symptoms" sore boobs, lower back pain, bloating, but no period. I am at such a lost i don't know what to do, any ideas, thoughts.
its so nice to see im not the only one with this problem the only difference is ive never been on birth control i am 17 and havent had a period in like 6 months i started when i was 14 and they werent regular,a couple months ago i thought i would start bacause i was spotting ive done several pregnancy tests just to be sure and all were negative im really scared and frustrated i was hoping someone here would have some ideas too what i should do.
I am SO glad i looked on here. This website always has answers when i need them. I also just like to read for fun because i'm planning on being a medical Student in college. Here's what i would like to know: I am 16 going on 17 and i haven't had a period for the last two months. I'm not pregnant and that's for sure. I'm not on the pill or any medications. I know it is normal for a girl my age to be irregular, but i have never missed two months in a row before. I also realize it could be the large amount of stress I have been under lately with school and work. Is there anything else it could be? Any answers would be GREAT! I'm going to the OBGYN next week sometime but I'm just confused and it's reallly hard to explain to my dad whats the problem (i live with just him and he takes care of everything). If there is anything you guys can answer, please do let me know! THANKS!!
I quit taking the pill and missed a few periods, took test & not pregnant. Two more months ,no period & Dr. did a blood test and still not pregnant. One and 1/2 months later still no period, went to the Dr. and guess what.. 6 weeks PREGNANT. I think the pill just messes up your hormones, anything is possiable.
TO GRETCHEN- A similar thing happened to me and I got pregnant, even without having a period for around six months. At six months with no period I Finally found out I was six weeks pregnant. I just decided I was probably sooo stressed out because I wanted to be pregnant so bad that I did'nt have a period. Somewhere in there I guess I ovulated because I got pregnant and now my son is 5 months old. I know it's hard not to stress. I had quit drinking because I wanted to get preg and was told it would be eaiser to get preg if I didnt drink. Well due to all the stress my friend gave me the best peice of advice: Workout a few times a week to reduce stress & kick back and have a glass or two of wine. Bam, pregnant. I hope this helps a bit.
Good luck!!
hey ladies,
Well, it's taken me forever to repost, but here I am. My name changed too, but whatever. So, I finally went to the doctor and he said there is nothing to worry about. He said it's normal to go 6-12 months without a period after stopping birth control. I've been going to this doctor for 15 years, so I trust him! He told me we can run some blood tests to check my hormone levels, but I'm going to wait on that. anywho, don't worry ladies, it's normal to not have a period...I'm almost to 6 months without one...I believe that we're all ok, we just really confused our bodies by being on birth control! with that said, good luck ladies! Take care!!
WOW! After looking for so long on the internet i finally found this page. I thought I was the only one. Right now I am expierencing bad cramps and back pain. I have only had 2 periods in the last 2 years. I stopped BC 3 years ago. My boyfriend and i decided to have a baby! Im concerned i can't because i don't have periods.
I was diagnosed with a "hormonal imbalance" when i was 25 and im now 31.
Is it possible i am pregnant or do i need hormonal pills?

Hey ladies...
just an update:
I'M PREGNANT!!!!!
I'm so excited! I've been feeling sick the past couple of weeks and yesterday I bought a two pack of tests and they both came out positive INSTANTLY!! YAY!!
I'm shocked it happened since I haven't had a period in months, but something happened. :) I have no idea how far I am, I'm guessing 4-6 weeks...somewhere in that range.
I'll keep you all posted on my progress.
My name is Jessica and i am 23 years old. i have not had a period since May 15, 2006, yes i know that is a long time, the doctors have put me on birth control pills, they didnt work. I recently found out that i am a dibetic. I have to watch what i eat, i exercise daily, and i am on meds for the dibetic. The doctor said that i will soon have a period, but guess what i havent. If anybody has any information on what i should do please let me know.
I am a 23 year old female. I have had irregular periods since i was about 14. My husband and i have been trying to get pregnant for almost 2 years now and haven't had any luck. THe doctor says he can't find anything wrong with either of us. I just don't ovulate every month so that drops my number of chances. I only have a period every 2-3 months. For about a week now, i have had nausea and vomiting and felt more tired than usual. I took a couple of home test and all were negative. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be or what i can do to help it?
Hello I am a 26 year old and I was on the pill for about 10 years. I tried so hard to not get pregnant in my teens and early 20's I wonder if this is why I am having problems now. I have been married for 2 years and I stopped taking my pills in June. I had a normal cycle in July and a little one in Sept but that is it. Everyone around me is getting pregnant when they were not planning to and it is really frustrating. I dont want to tell any of my family that we have been trying because my husband and I are the youngest siblings in our families and we have been pestered since before we got married about kids. I just want someone to talk to. I have taken about 4 home tests, all negative, and been to the doctor and she said it is normal by body is just tring to adjust. Is there anything I can do to help my chances of getting pregnant? I try not to worry about it but women in my family are very fertile and have had no problem getting pregnant, most by accident or within 2 weeks of trying. Can something be wrong with me? Help!

I have been having irregular periods for about 6-7 months now. I had gained some weight and so the doctors thought that this might be the cause of my issues. My husband and I have been trying for about a year with now luck of pregnancy. I just recently went to the doctor and they put me on provera to induce a period. It has been three days since my last dose, and so far, I haven't started. What is the normal time frame for starting after taking provera? Once I start my period, I will be taking Clomid to help with ovulation. If you have taken just provera, and haven't gotten pregnant, maybe the next step is to look into taking clomid as well.
We have been trying for 10 months to get pregnant and I stopped the LO-DEPO shot in January my periods were regular until this last month I didn't have a period for 60 days they put me on PROvera to start my period I did 2 test 1 blood not pregnant I had the feeling of being pregnant but your mind is very poerful so if you wish and think you are it can play tricks on you. I started my period after 10 days of PROVERA my period is not very heavy is this okay? And the doctor wants to put me on CHLOMIDE twins run on both my husbande and my side so does this increas our chances? The doctor said there is 10% chance of twins so how much does that increase ours?
I also have a great consern! I really want to have children in the future. I haven't started my period for 2 months but I have had about 8 yeast infections in the last 8 months! My doc. also told me about giving me progesterone shots and then putting me on bc. How will this affect me on my plans on having children by the end of next year?

I Don't know if I have missed or will get my period soon. I had my last period on October 18 and it lasted for 2 days, my periods usually last 5 days. It is the 20th of November now and I still don't have my period. I have had my periods regulary. I haven't had sex since august 4th. I have taken two pregnancy tests in the first week of August and they both were negative. We were some concerned and I took three more. All of the tests came back negative. I hit my head and had a slight concussion. I went to the doctor, and my symptoms from the concussion weren't getting any better so they tested my blood for pregnancy. The results came back negative. I haven't gained any weight or anything to suggest I am pregnant, after all If I was I would have gained a little bit of weight by now. I feel so tired, I don't feel like eating so much some days, but other days I do. I feel bloated sometimes, and fine the next. I have had a lot of stress lately about finances and school. I am away from my love, and that too is making me stressed. Can I be pregnant if I have had my period up until now, 4 months later? Can I be pregnant if the doctors took my blood and it was negative like the pregnancy tests? Someone help me..Im worried and afraid..
I have recently been diagnosed with 2 differant forms of blood clots. In the last 3 years I have had 2 miscarriages and for the last year, I have been trying to get pregnant. For about the last 6-7 months, my periods have only been lasting for 1 day, disappear, and then spotting a few days later. I do not think I have been ovulating. I started taking daily asprin, folic acid and multi-vitamins 3 months ago and still no luck. Does anyone have any advise? I am really worried I may not be able to get pregnant.
Hi ladies...
I stopped taking BC in July and was a week and a half late on my first period after BC. Then I had two periods after that, which were very regular (28 days exactly). My husband and I were still using condoms until around the second week of October and then started using nothing because we wanted to try to have a baby...very exciting! Well, my last period started on October 18, so I would have been due to get it again last Thursday (28 days)...it never came. Of course I was somewhat excited so I took a hpt on Friday and it was negative. For the last 2 weeks now I have felt like I would get my period any second...a little crampy and bloated, etc., but still no period. Now, I am 6 days late and I just took another hpt this morning and it again came back negative. Very disappointing, but even more so confusing. I have always been regular with my periods, even before I went on BC...I have never missed a period. This is just so weird that I have gone this long and still no sign of it. I also feel a little light-headed at times, but no sore breasts or anything. I too feel like it might just be in my head. Some women have said that the hpt showed negative up until they were quite far along. I took the e.p.t. Certainty (digital) test. Has anyone taken that test and had it show negative only to later find out you were pregnant? Just curious. I'm just wondering if the digital method hasn't been perfected yet.
I have not had my period in 2months. this has never happen to me. but i went to the ER about 2weeks ago an they gave me a pergo tests an it says that im not pergo. so idk what to do. and im not on the pill or anything...can it be from stress??
i havent had my period for almost two months now the last time i got it was the end of september, in august i missed my period also so i thought the same thing happened again that i missed my period due to stress so now i still didnt get my period i took a pregnancy test the other day it came out negative and still nothing yet ive never been on any birth control..what can be the problem??
I am 52 yrs old and have had regular, normal cycles up through October. I have not had my period yet in November, but I do feel pressure as I would right before a period as well as discharge.
I am on Synthroid.
Could I be starting menopause and if so does it come on this quickly.
Thank you.
I'm 28,mother of 3. I had my tubes tide 4yrs this Dec.9th. I've never had any problems with my cycle, usually start every 21 to 28 days and last 4-7days. Well this year Oct.25 was my last period and like most of these women the test i took was neg. I still have these weird signs like i feel pregnant but they're mostly vague. It may just be hormones, i don't know. I did make an appointment but it's not till the first of the year. I was just wondering if there was any other cases like mine and what may be the cause.
I am 21 years old and I haven't had my period for about 2 months. the last time was early October. I'm not on the pill. Could I be pregnant, or could their be another problem?
Hey ladies! Like many of you I thought I was the only one with this problem. I had my daughter in August 2006. I got a normal period the first month after, but then nothing. I was on birth control so I really didn't notice, because I was bleeding a little bit, I just thought it was from the pregnancy still. Well I have been to the doctor several times and we have tried hormones and types of birth control. I do get some sort of a period but it is very irregular. My only concern is, when you don't get your period, there is a build-up of estrogen, and isn't that bad for you? I just want to figure out what is going on. I do eventually want to have more kids.
Has anyone taken Prometrium to help them start their period? If so how long did it take before your period started while on Prometrium?
im 18 years old and recently lost my virginity...my period is normally irregular so i thought nothing of it when i had no period for a month...but i had not period after 4 months!!!! i took countless test n went to the doc..but it was all negative...one night i had horrible cramps n a very heavy flow with lots of clots???
did i have a miscarriage???
Hi, I'm knocking on 29, heathly, maybe a few pounds overweight. I had my tubes tied almost 4 years ago. Take no birth control, my husband does not use a condom. My periods came to a stop, August 17th was my last day. I have took numerous pregnancy tests, all come up negative. SHEW! I have 3 kids, all easy natural births, no complications. My last child, I bled for almost 2 years, My ob put my on 5 bc pills a day to stop the bleeding. It was more aggervating than worrying back then. Now, I am having terrible pain between my shoulder blades on my back, and i have started to 'form' the baby belly. THIS SCARES ME TO DEATH. I can't afford to have any more children. Much like some of the rest of you, I can not afford to go see my doctor. 177$ office visit, plus whatever other tests he thinks could be ran. Even the local health department is 75$. Anyone have any suggestions? I've changed my diet, I excercise more, still pretty stressed out. What should I do?

Leah, so far you're the only one on the blog that I can somewhat relate to. Although many of you are having problems getting your period after stopping birth control pills when you were on them for so long (as is my situation), my question is, are any of you having cramps during the months you don't get your periods? I'm in my late 20's, I went off of BC ring in September. October was a 28 day cycle. I had my period again at the beginning of November. However, on November 25th, I had cramps that lasted 12 hours. I assumed they were ovulating cramps. So, I didn't have sex with my husband for 3 days after that (giving time for my egg to "die"). I have been to the dr., had a urine test, and was neg. She said, however, that it's possible that I can be pregnant, because even though irregular periods can go for months/years without having a period, IF YOU OVULATE (which I assume was the cramping b/c there was no period), women get their periods anywhere from 12-16 days after. That is an almost 100% guarantee FOR EVERY WOMAN, REGULAR OR IRREGULAR. Because I'm over the 12-16 day mark (I had the dr. test on the 17th day from "ovulation"), I bought a pregnancy test, and it says if you're irregular, take 19 days after the day you think you got pregnant. That's tomorrow. I'll take the test in the morning, and then again 3 days later if it's neg. I'll keep you all posted. If anyone has any info in the meantime, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
hi everyone i am 28 yrs old with 4 kids..my tubes are tied..i have been worried cause i just dont get my period no more i thought i was just lucky but it has been a year!! i have always been irregular but not like this.. people are telling me i could really be sick,i have no health insurece and i was just wondering if someone could give me advise!! by emailing me at shellsimpson79@yahoo.com thankyou!
I'm a 44 year old married mom of three. Our youngest is 10. I'm not on the pill and haven't had it in 20+ years. I have had consistent periods about every 25 to 29 days for most if not all of my life. This month I am now 32 days with no period. Pregnancy test was negtive so I've made plans to go to my doc's office. Any other 40 something year olds my age in this same boat? If so have you found anything out?
Thanks,
I am 26 year old woman. Since I started puberty at 12, my periods were always irregular. I had a miscarriage in June this year, it was all so fast I had no idea I was pregnant in the first place, I would have only been pregnant for 2 or 3 weeks tops, still, its very upsetting. Anyway, since this miscarriage my periods have actually been very regular, right on time. I've also been using ovulation trackers, and compared to the past few months, I should have gotten my period on 12/17. It's now 6 days later and I still have not gotten my period. I took an at home pregnancy test yesterday morning but it came back negative. I figure I will wait 4-5 more days and test again and see what happens, that is if I don't end up getting my period before hand. But this is a first for me. I have never missed a period before so I have no idea what's going on, although sometimes the I'd have cycles that would be anywhere from 30-45 days, but my past 3 cycles were exactly 32 days and it is now the 37th day. Yesterday was 19 days (too long, lol) since the last time hubby and I had sex so I would think if I really am pregnant, then the stick shouldn't have given me a false negative? I kinda hope to be pregnant, but seeing negative results is a downer...
im in a situation were I have been off the pills for know 6 month and dont have periods and when I do they are not full periods and I think the last time I had to by tampons or pads was 6 months ago so thats pretty light I dont get any symptoms what so ever now im 33 and would like to get pregnant I have 2 children and have had no issues in the past however I have never had this happen. If thier are any answers please let me know.
I am a 26 year old female I have had my tubes tied now for 5 years. My normal period starts between 22-28day. Today makes the 37th day. I have been having cramps for the last week but no blood. I had an ovarian cyst in 05 and I am wondering what can be wrong. Please can anybody help!!!!

Hey ladies!!!
I am so happy I found this page. My question is, why OH WHY is it that all of us and probably many, many others have had this problem but no doctor likes to tell us what is going on? I have not had a period for over two years! I am 21 years old and I would like to have a baby sometime. I was at a GYN last July and they simply told me I didnt have a period probably because of the onset of anorexia.... ummm.... i weigh 200 lbs. I almost choked laughing!
I am getting out of the sticks and going to a doctor in a real city in February, so i'll keep you posted, hopefully I will get an answer that makes sense.
i actually had a question if anyone could help me.
I recently found out im a anemic. and i has to start taking vitamins. I had my period in a regular cycle. And now i am late by 7 days. I dont think there is a chance of pregnancy. Has anyone else heard of something like this???
sarah, have you had your thyroid checked, im having this problem and recently learned i have thyroid disease
hey all i am really getting worried i am a mother of 1 an d been trying for a 2nd since Sept.. i have regular periods. i have went 2 1/2 weeks with out a period. i have taken 4 home test all negitive and went to the doctor and they just look at me like i am stupid for coming in. my husband really thinks that i am pregant. i have had a upset tummy for about a week or so. what do i do. the doctor says i am fine nut what IF...
Ive been very worried...My last depo shot was in may of 2007 and it was only my 2nd one. Its now jan 2008 and i have not had a period...Me and husband want to try to have another child but dont know what to do. I dont want to take any drugs but i am willing to take any natural remedies. Any out there have any suggestions?
I have not had a period since Nov. but when i take a pregnancy test it says negative so i leave it at that and go on about my daily routine. For almost two weeks i could not hold anything down stayed nausious. Last year this exact same time i found out I was pregnant but i lost the baby the next month. So i do smoke cigarettes and i would very much like to know what is going on so that i can prevent any mishaps that may occur due to smoking. i also think it may be stress but then the stress i am dealing with haven't changed. So really I am stumped for words on what could be the issue. iam not on BC
My cycle has been regular for about a year now, I was on the depo shot after I had my son and it took a while for my cycle to regulate, but now all of the sudden I am 3 days late with no craps or anything, I took 3 hpt's and all neg, whats up with that?
I went ONE YEAR without having my period. Eventually with medicine I was able to have my period. I waited so long because it was normal to miss. I found out in Sept '07 that I had ovarian cysts so with medication, I was able to have my period and the ovaries left with the flow. I am afraid that I might have ovarian cancer and/or not be able to have children. i dont want to depend on the medicine to always have my periods. if anyone has ever experienced this, please contact me or if anyone knows what to do, contact me as well. I'm very scared! email me at flyest_vocalist@hotmail.com
I am confused with whats going on I got off off Depo in febuary and it is now the month of january and I have still not started my period, It has been about 6 years now since I have had a period, is there something wrong with me?
I am very worried, am I okay? I have had unprotected sex ALOT! is there any possibilitie i can get pregnant if any one knows I would really appriciate if someone could help with any kind of info you can contact me at crystal_revee@yahoo.com
Thank you,
when i got off the shot it took me like 3 months to start my period, and it was very irregular for about a year.
I have not had a period for almost 7 months and I am not pregnant. My doctor put me on progesterin pills and I have been on those for 2 months and still nothing. What could be wrong? Please help.
erica, i thought the point of the progesterin pills was that when you stop taking them you have a period. i took 10 mg for 10 days and now 2 days later i started af.
All of your comments have been extremely helpful. I am 27 years old and I stopped taking birth control in July 07. I was on the pill for 4 1/2 years. My cycles where normal until November and then my period just stopped. At first I thought I was pregnant and told everyone I was pregnant but when I had a sonogram nothing. I am really worried. My doctor is not helping much. I am going to another doctor on Tuesday.
The posts about women getting pregnant after not having their periods in such a long time was so up lifting! I have been so upset lately and it feels good to read other women are going through this as well. To all of the women out there good luck and keep a positive attitude!!!
I was wondering if you had any advise for me. I am 19 years old and have always had irregular periods. The longest i have gone before without a period was 3 months. it has now been 6 months. I have gone to the doctors and they tell me im not pregnant and that my pelvic ultrasound was normal. So what could be wrong with me? I was told that stress could cause you not to have one, but for this long? and if so what can i do to make my stress level go down? Would stress be the only reason i have not had one?
Hi ashleigh-kay!
I am going through the same situation right now as well and I recieve the same answers from family members and friends. A missed period could be your thyroid gland it also means that you are not ovulating properly. You have to go to the doctor and get blood work done so you can see what is wrong with you. - If something is wrong, you just will not no until you check.
You should check it out now that you are young because you may prevent any seriouse problems in the future.
My doctor also told me not to worry but I am going for a 2nd opinion on Tuesday. I am going to have blood work done.
Good luck!!! I hope I answered your question.
Amanda, I took the pills from the 14th through the 28th of both months. I was not on straight for two months. And still nothing. I am on again for the third month. Done on the 28th.
Hi Amanda and Erica,
I just got back from another doctor on Tuesday. I went for a
2nd opinion. The first doctor I went to advised me to hang tight. I was'nt pregnant but I stopped getting my period so I went to another doctor and he put me on
10mg of medicine for 10 days to jump start my period then on day 3 of my period I am starting my first cycle of Chlomid.
I am really nervous that all of this medication will work and hopefully I will be okay once I get preggers.
ok so i have very irregular periods, as in i will skip 4 months, and the longest being 10 months.
when i first started getting irregular periods (middle of highschool) i went to my doctor because i had been haveing extreme side/pelvic pain once in awhile. he
simply told me it was a cyst and would go away. well the pain went away and my periods never were regular agine.
since then once in awhile i will feel pressure on my side, which has only seemed to gottem worse in the last few months.
*shotting pain so bad i could not move.
* bleeding once (only lasted a few hours), and spotting once or twice.
*last augest i had really bad back/pelvic pain.
*and in dec i got alot of odd symptoms including Nausea, indigestion,a obvious change in bowl habbits, backache.
now i am pretty much back to just dull side pain/pressure. but around the time i had all the symptoms in dec i finally got my period.
tests show all my hormones are normal, and my ultra sound saw nothing out of the ordinary.
to me this dose not sound normal at all, but i seem to be the only one who thinks so.
sorry for the long post D :
Hi I just turned 30 the 9th of January and I had my tubes tied 7 years ago my period has been regullar since then it's like clock work every 28 days but I have missed my period it is late a month and that is not usual for me. My husband and I want another baby but since my tubes are tied I didn't think I could get pregnant. I'm scared to take a preganacy test too scared it will be negative but I will be taking one tomorrow. I have been eating crazy, sleeping all day and certain smlls makes me sick to the stomach. Has anyone one the blog gotten pregnant while their tubes were tied????? PLEASE RESPOND!!!!!
I hope someone can help me. I'm 28, & my periods have always been pretty regular. I exercise a lot & that helps with the symptoms a little bit, but lately they've been coming later & later. I'm on day 41 of my cycle & I've been having cramps & serious bloating (I've gained 3 1/2 lbs in what I assume is water weight over 2 days & hardly any of my jeans fit. I normally weigh about 108 so any weight I gain is really noticeable, in this case my stomach is really bloated & swollen & my cheeks are too) but I havent had any bleeding yet. The cramps & bloating have been going on for 2 days. My face is also breaking out. I've also had out-of-control food cravings (mostly for carbs & sugar) for the last week. Actually this happens every month, it's just that the periods usually start sooner. It drives me nuts because I've worked really hard to get to this weight & it sucks to gain so much back for a week every month, & I usually have better self control around food. Anyway, this is probably the longest cycle I've had. Last month it was over 5 weeks but I think this is the 1st time I've gone over 40 days. I doubt I could be pregnant because I have an IUD & I'm pretty sure I'm too young to be having menopause. I do exercise a lot but I've been exercising daily for about 4 years. No one in my family has had fibroids or PCOS or anything like that. I dont know what's wrong with me & I'm sick of going through this every month. I dont really want to make a doctor's appointment, I'll probably get it before I'd go in, but what if I dont?
I strongly recommend FemCon to you women that get off yaz & dont hav a period. take femcon for a little while then quit you should be right on track.
My situation is similar to most because I have always had irregular periods before BCs. I’ve been on them off and on for the past 6 yrs. I recently stopped taking the BCs at the start of my last period Dec 19th. I haven't had a period yet though I've had some signs that it may come like sensitive breasts, lower back pain and breakouts on my face. I have had intercourse twice in January, both protected and after what I assume was my "fertile period". So I was not surprised when two home pregnancy tests came up negative, but I am still concerned. I have a doctor's appt. tomorrow so hopefully I'll get some insight. I am glad that I came across this blog though because I can go in the office armed with some info and ask more pointed questions to determine what may be going on. I have had abnormal paps in the past and tested for cervical issues which all came back negative but that was years ago. I'm hoping nothing else is going on. And really hoping that I'm not pregnant, I already have a 4yr. old that I'm raising alone and just can't afford another baby at this time, maybe later...
My period is late this month. I usually have a very regular menstrual cycle, but this month it's EXTREMELY late. The bad thing is, that I've gotten some cramps. They hit me every few hours and they feel like menstrual cramps, but there's no blood. What does that mean?
I've been on Loestrin for about a year now and everything was going normal, with a little spotting between periods. Starting about three months ago my spotting got heavier and my period got lighter. Now, my period is pretty much gone and my spotting is now my period.
Is there a possibility I can get pregnant, since my periods now happen on my "active pill" days not on my "inactive pill" days?
I am 32 with a 3 yr old and I just started taking levothyroxine 2 weeks ago for my underactive thyroid. I am on birth control and this is the final day of that week in which I should have my period. My period is nowhere in sight. This has never happened before. I am wondering if has something to do with the medicine. Has the medicine cause my bc not to work and now I'm pregnant? Is the medicine effecting my period although I'm on bc? Other thyroid medicines have not effected my period or bc so I am worried. I'm tempted to go get a home preg test. Has anyone else gone through this?
I'm 19 years old I haven't had a period since Septemeber 5, 2007 I've done two cycles of Prometrium 200 mg for 12 days and I'm currently on another cycle I'm scared because I still haven't had a period. I have no idea what's wrong I know I'm not pregnant but I'm still ovulating I did have about 20 very small complex cysts on my right ovary found that out in the ER. Should I be worried?
I can't seem to find any help, I have a cyst, is there still a chance i still can get pregnant, i taken a test, shown up negative, ever sense my son was born i had some problems, haven't started my period, the doctor said i have cyst and need to get on birth control to make it go away, im scared to take any cause of the side effects, i dont want it harming me to where i can't have any more childeren.
sooo... can some one please help me, please e-mail me or IM me @ mystiandkenneth1983@yahoo.com
thank yall

I too went for over a year without having a period.I have 2 children and I had a tubal after my youngest child was born (18 yrs ago). My periods had always been regular and 3 days long with no cramps, even after the tubal.About 5 years ago my periods started to become irregular, some months I would not have one and some months I would have 2. In 2005 I found out that I had cervical cancer, I had the leap surgery and have been tested regularly since then but all paps have been normal. My last period was the 1st week of Jan. 2007. For the last year I have had night sweats and hot flashes, and weight gain, my doctor ran a blood test and found out I am in menopause (I am only 42 yrs old) during my examination he also found out that I have a cyst on my ovary. I was sent for an ultrasound and a vaginal scan and everything came back normal. Two weeks later I started my period again. I have been on my period about 5 days now and I am having cramps in my lower stomach. I have had several people tell me this is a sign of ovarian cancer. I called my doctor but he said it wasn't a big deal. Does anyone know if it is normal during menopause to have this happen after going so long without a period?
I am very confused I have a five year old and lost my other child in January of 2006. Now her it is again that I think I am pregnant but all of the tests keep coming up negative I have not had a period since December of 2007. And I do not know what is going on, the only signs that I have of being pregnant is fatigue, no morning sickness, breast tenderness like with my first two, but my significant other is showing some signs. I go to the doctor tomorrow I hope he does not tell me I have cancer, because my periods have been regular for 14 years and now they are not coming and my test are negative I do not know what else to think. I see I am not alone out there so maybe some one can help me.
Need your help,
Confused

I am 24 and have polycystic ovary syndrome. I have been on birth control for the past 3 years or so. I missed a few pills last month so i didn't have a period I went to my dr and they told me to finish my pill pack and see if my period came. Well i took the last "green" pill yesterday and technically should have had my period the last week but haven't. What could cause this I haven't changed my daily routine lately and there hasn't really been any stress changes or anything so i'm not sure what could cause this?? Any suggestions?
Hello everyone,
I am a 27 yr old healthy woman.
I was on ortho tri-cyclen when I got preggo with my first baby in 1999, but didnt know til I was 6 months! She is now 8 yrs old. I didnt have another baby til 2005, I got preggo with him when I was on the Patch. I was on the patch after him, my husband and I decided to have another baby mid 2007, so I stopped the Patch. I didnt have a period for 5 MONTHS. I had heard on the Tyra Banks show that you could entirely miss your period if you wanted to just by...if your on the pill, instead of taking the last week of your pills which are just sugar pills, to start on your next cycle of pills. So I tried that with the patch. Instead of not wearing one for the 4th week I put on a new one from the next cycle. I then went to my yearly exam. The next day I got my period. And it lasted for 3 WEEKS! I have not started a new patch cycle, and we want to have a baby. Does anyone have any suggestions? And does anyone know if it is possible to make your body think your are preggo?
I went three months without a period. It was from Oct 07 to Feb 08. I finally got it and I wish I did'nt. I am so sick of missing periods. I usually only have one maybe three or four times a year. I want to have at least one more child. How can you plan for a pregnancy when your period is not on a normal cycle? Not to mention the pain and discomfort when your period finally decides to show up. I have tried birth control and I have tried several and it's not for me. My body does not react well to that either. WEll I am hoping for an answer from someone Thanks.

I would like to have another baby but how can that happen when I only have three or four periods per year. I have been on this cycle for a very long time now. Yes I have been on birth control several different kinds as a matter of fact and they are not for me. My body does not react well to them at all. WEll I look forward to hear back from someone.
You should talk to your doctor about doing 3 cycles of Prometrium or Provera it helps your periods get back to normal.
Hi. I like most of you have had a missed period. My husband and I are not trying to have any children at this point in time. But I am have never taken birth control. My periods are extremely regular. I have not missed a period for many years, but now I have not had one since the end of November. I have taken more than a few pregnancy test. They have all come back negative. My husband is extremely worried, but I do not think is a big deal. I have no other symptoms other than a missed period. There is no extra stress in our lives and I have maintained the same weight for a while. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do or how long I should wait before seeking medical advice?
I am 22 and weigh 120 lb. i am not overweight or diabetic and was diagnosed with PCOS last month.I have never had regular periods. Just before i was diagnosed with PCOS, I had HORRIBLE pains in my sides. I went to the doctor and she told gave me a blood test and an ultrasound. When they found that i had PCOS, she put me on progesterone pills to make me start my period. after 12 days i finally got my period. The first day of my period i started YAZ, which will help balance my hormones. It has been over 3wks and i am still on my period, actually i am getting a brown discharge, which i guess is old period? I am also getting reocurring yeast infections. Is this caused by the discharge? My blood sugar levels are normal! PCOS has already been hurtful enough to deal with, i am still not to terms with the fact that i may never have children, do i have to suffer yeast infections forever as well? HELP ME...i hope someone relates to me
Don't worry girls. I too have had the same problems that many of you were talking about. When I was in the 9th grade my doctor put me on bc because my periods would come about once or twice a year. When I got married my husband and I wanted to start having kids right away. I stopped taking my pills, didn't have any periods and still got pregnate. My doctor told me that it was possible to get pregnate with out having a period. I now have 2 heathly boys. But I will warn you that they were both borm premature and the doctor told me that having PCOS may be the cause of that. So keep trying...
Hellol, I have not started my period, sense i had my son, and he is now 9 months old, couple months ago i went to the ER and they told me i have a big syst on my right overy, and i need to take BC to make it go away, I have taken a test and shown up negative, i have no signs of being pregnant, but i am so scared of taking any BC cause my sister takes it and she has gained so much weight from it, and i have a friend that takes another kind and all she does is bleed all the time, i don't know if the syst is causing me not to have a period or what, is it true you can not get pregnant when you have a syst with out having fertle shots? I don't know what to do, i sure don't want to end up pregnant and having PCOS think its called and having premature baby, i was scared to death when i had my son, he's my first.
Hello, There's this yogurt called Moutain Fresh, My Uncle runs the company, I am 25 years old, When I was 17 I always gotten yeast inffections, but then my grandmother told me to eat it, so i did, it was so NASTY lol, i think i ate it for like a week maybe a little longer, but sense then I have NOT had a yeast inffection, it really does work, you can get it at your local wal-mart. And to make the taste a little better eat grapes with it, that's what i did to make it taste better..
I am a 24 year old female with very irregular periods. I go probably 3 months with out having one. My problem is that my husband and I want to have a baby in the near future. How do i know when I am ovulating when I have such irregular periods?
To Mystaind:
I had the exact same problem. I got pregnant and had my first son by C-section. When the doctor did the delivery he saw a cyst on my ovary and removed it, or drained it whatever. Anyway at my 6 week check-up he said it was back and that I needed to take birth control to make it go away, well he gave me the pill which I kept forgetting to take, so I quit after like the first month. For 1 and 1/2 years I didn't get pregnant I had a lot of pain from the cyst and very irregular periods I took a lot of pregnancy test, but never pregnant. I go so scared I wouldn't be able to have anymore kids. I finally decided to go back to the gyno to get put on birth control because I didn't know what else to do. When they gave me the pregnancy test they have to before they put you on birth control I found out I was pregnant. So, you can get pregnant with a cyst, but I would recommend the birth control to get rid of the cyst. It does work. After my pregnancy with my second son I haven't had anymore problems with cysts. I have a 1 year old daughter now as well. Hope this helps!
I am 25. I haven't had my period since Oct '07. In November and December had very light bleeding. So light I didn't need a pad or anything. I usually have very heavy, painful periods. They've been regular sice Sept. '06 when I had my third child. Since December I haven't had any light bleeding or anything around my peiod time, but I have had some light bleeding after incercourse. I don't have any pain or pregnancy symptoms. I've taken 2 pregancy tests both negative. Any help please, you can post or e-mail me at adams4101@msn.com Thanks.
I found that taking my temp everyday and making a chart on it is what worked for me. You take you temp, right when you wake up in the morning. You can't get out of bed or move around a lot before taking your temp. It is best to keep the thermometer and chart at your bedside. When you see that your temp is going up it is the best time to try to get pregnant. It took me about 6 months. Be patient and have fun. It is hard to get pregnant if you are stressed. Look up "Basal body temperature" this will help you understand it better. You might also be able to find a online chart that will help you.
what if you have all the symtoms of your period but still waiting on it. had a normal one last month and theres only 1 more day left of the month not on birth controll either!?
I HAVE NOT GONE THOUGH THE CHANGE,BUT I HAVEN'T HAD A PERIOD FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS. I DO HAVE CROHN'S STRATING IN 2005,AND I JUST STARTING HAVING LIGHT BLEEDING TODAY ,I AFRAID.WHAT CAN IT BE.

~the lost and confused
This is soo reassuring to read these comments and not feel alone! I haven't had a period since sep 2007, have taken several pregnancy tests and finally went to the dr. I had been very stressed at work from oct-jan, and thought that may be the cause. But when I started cramping at the end of feb with no period - I scheduled an appt. with my doctor. Before filling a presciption for 'provera' we did a blood test to make sure I wasn't pregnant - and surprise! I was pregnant! The week before, I did a pregnacy test & it was negative! So now its a waiting game...In two weeks I go for an ultrasound to determine the due date.
i missed my period for a whole month. I haven't taken a preganacy test but know i'm pregnant. I don't understand it though because my boyfriend has a vasectomy. He's doctor saids the chances are greater if we had sex on or right after my period and we did have sex right after my period. I didnt want anymore kids and i'm sure he didnt either thats why he got the vasectomy. What am I to do??
I read this article, but am still not sure what my problem could be.I had my 4th child by c-section Nov.17.I had normal post-pregnancy bleeding for about 3 weeks, and then I have NOT had a period since. It is now March, and I am very worried-can this be normal,or should I be very concerned?I cannot afford the doctor right now as I have no benefits.I am breastfeeding and have had some amount of stress for a while.I don't know whether to be scared or not!Help!
Does anybody respond to these queries? If so I am interested in the response to Sherry's question (November 29, 2007). I too am 52, have had clockwork periods until my last on January 28, 2008. Am I experiencing pre-menopausal symptoms?
Does anybody respond to these queries? I would like to know what answer did Sherry get to her call for help? Sherry posted in November 27, 2007. I am 52 years old and upuntillast mont had clokwork periods. Does this mean I am experiencing pre-menopause symptoms?
I just had a miscarriage in the beginning of February. I got the shot as my bc being very excited about my periods eventually not comming around. My doctor told me it would be about a year before that would happen. I'm now on day 34 with no period and HORRIBLE back pain. Is this normal? I can't even walk most days - it hurts that bad. Any one have any piece of information they can give me that would be awesome.
Thank you.
its been 6 months sense I've got my last period, and its been like this for past 4 years,my gynecologist is keep telling me that its normal for woman to have period 2-3 times a year,i really don't think thats normal especially because is messing up my hormones and i gained 35 pounds in less than six months and I'm constantly on a diet i barely eat anything, its starting to damage my health, cant breath, cant sleep, and most important I'm scared if i would be able to have kids in future,if anyone has problem like this and knows the answer feel free to send me e-mail on arijanalejlic@comcast.net
This is really not a comment, but rather a question. In Dec 07, I had sex during my period. My period came on in Jan and Feb 08 the regular time. This is now the ending of March but i haven't seen my period yet. Let me add I haven't had sex from Dec, but has increase in my daily exercise like 4 hours a day. Am I pregnant?

I was on the pill for 16 years before I had my son, no issues. I had him and bled at first, but since March 07 haven't had my period. My Doctor didn't seem concerned in August, but I certainly was. She blamed the low dose BC pills and I tried Yaz which I hated. I went back to my other pill for a while and now am completely off. No period still. If I have had a baby already, can I still have PCOS?

I had my tubes tied 11yrs. ago after my last child. I think the Doctor said he put a band around my tubes that would stop pregnancies. Is it possible to still become pregnant? I look very much pregnant and feel it also. I'm too scared to take a test to find out. Please help! What should I do?
I have not had a period for 6 months. I had a pelvic ultrasound & complete bloodwork...all results were normal. My Doc gave me progesterone for 5 days which is suppose to induce my cycle. But still no answer why its been absent so long. I'm not under any stress. Anyone have a suggestion?

My LMP was on Feb 21 2008 and on March 3, I got a slight bleeding for 3 days. At first I thought I got pregnant and that was an implantation bleeding and I did a HPT came back negative. Haven't had my period since then. Its been 51 days since my LMP and I did another HPT 2 days ago and still negative. I have symptoms of being pregnant except for the tender breast. Haven't been on birth control pills for over 8yrs and always got my period monthly. This is the 1st it never came. I have lower abdominal cramping and pain esp. when I wake up in the morning. Can anyone please advise or share of similar experience. I want to be pregnant so bad that I am so stressed out that not only am I not pregnant but I don't have a period too. Means no ovulating for me.....someone shed some ease please.
I was wondering if you get pregnant, does your breast get affected right away...what I mean is that do you get tender breast right away. Is there any woman out there who might have gotten pregnant but didn't get the tender breast til later later???? Just trying to figure out whether I'm pregnant. Someone please advise. Thank you.
I havent had a period since November and I'm not pregnant. My doctor ran some tests and said my levels were all normal so he wanted to put me on Provera for 10 days. Well after about 7 days into the medication I started feeling cramps in my lower left quadrant. This continued up until my tenth day on the medication. Today is 72 hours after I have finished taking the med and no period, also the cramping stopped. I feel bloated and sexual intercourse is painful. What's wrong with me?
Barb,
I went on the Provera as well and had similar simptoms after the medication was through..I think they are listed on the med box for side affects. I was also told by my OB that most times it takes two or three rounds of Provera to "shock" your system back to normal.
I was supposed to start my period on 6 April but didn't. Then on the 9th I started spotting then it went away, the 10th was the same story but with clotting and then it was over. Then on 12th I thought I had finally started but it was light and lasted an hour and then it was gone again. I've been having pregnancy symptoms like nausea, headaches, frequent urination...so I thought I might be pregnant but I did a home test and it came out negative. I'm on the pill, have been for two years, and have been regular with my period since I started it, which is why I can give exact dates to when I should start. Is there a possibility I could still be pregnant even with a negative test or could something else be wrong? Any help would be appreciated...
Tomorrow is 56 days since my LMP and also my 35th birthday. I'm still trying to figure out what might be wrong with me. Now that I'm starting to accept that I may not be pregnant, all those pregnancy symptoms I was getting before are disappearing too except for the lower cramps that feels like I'm gonna have my period. Maybe turning 35 shifted my hormones and caused me not to get my period? I dunno. All I know is that I'm so afraid to go to the doctor just to get a confirmation with another pregnancy test that I'm not pregnant on top of finding out that something might be wrong with me and that I'm not ovulating......being a female who is TTC sucks!!!!!
I am 33 years old. My last period was in January 2008. I've been so worried ever since I missed my period. I've tested negative many times and last night, even under Provera, I tested negative too.
Ironically, I am happy to know that I am not alone but sad to learn that these things have to happen to us. Anyway, even if I feel like my tummy is getting bigger or I feel bloated, I just told myself to wait some more and finish my 10-day Provera medication. I just keep on praying that my period gets back and that my body regulates.
I just challenged myself that when everything goes back to normal, I will ride my bike for a long time :)
I am 24, slightly overweight but otherwise healthy. My last period started on February 22- it was 3 days early. My cycle is usually a 28 day cycle, or occasionally it will come a couple days early. Only once in my life has it come late and it was only 2 days late- that was last August. I never got my period last month and it has now been 8 weeks since my last period with no signs of it coming this month either.
On March 17, a few days before I should have gotten my period, I had severe cramping which felt like I was getting my period only worse than usual. I never had any bleeding/spotting. When my period was late I took a pregnancy test, which was negative. I took several more which were all negative before I finally went for a blood test which was also negative.
The doctor told me (without doing any other tests) that he thought my hormones might be off and if I didn't get my period in a couple weeks to see my doctor. That was on April 1. Still no period but I have an appointment at the clinic for next week so maybe I will find out what's going on. Nothing has happened in my life out of the ordinary that should cause my hormones to be off. I am overweight but I have been overweight for several years now so why should that just now cause problems with my periods that are always regular? I told the doctor about the cramping I had several days before my missed period and he said I was probably ovulating- but wouldn't I have gotten my period by now if I was ovulating more than a month ago? And why would it be so painful? That's crap. I don't have insurance and the doctor obviously didn't want to do any tests to see what is really going on. Maybe I will have more luck at the clinic next week.
I just want so badly to get pregnant. When I first realized I was late then my period never came I was so sure I was pregnant since my periods are always on a regular schedule. This month will be my second missed period but I'm not pregnant so if I ever do get pregnant how will I know? When should I test? I have read about women who have tested negative then gotten a blood test which was negative and still turned out pregnant but I do not feel pregnant and as much as I wish I would be one of those women I am sure that's not the case.
To CF. I know exactly how you feel. I am going thru the same thing where MLP was feb 21 and today actually marks the 2nd month my period never came. Did a HPT twice both came back negative. No blood work done yet but I really see no point to it since I'm starting to accept that I may not be pregnant. Like you, no insurance either so I'm more hesitant to go and pay someone to tell me that I'm not pregnant anyways. At first, I was getting sypmtoms of being pregnant except for the tenderness of the breast but now that I've gotton 2 negative HPT, the symtoms are starting to go away too. I think the thought of me being prenant just got me carried away...really dunno but it felt real. Anyway, good luck to you and please keep in touch to let me know what happens in your situation since we're somewhat similar in issues. Good luck and don't get discourage.
Thank you, and when I find something out from the doctor I will let you know.
To all the women who have tried medicine like provera or FemCom - Just wondering: Has it helped? Did you get your period back? Wondering 'cause I'm experiencing the same thing. Quitting Yasmin after 7 years - hoping to get pregnant only to find me period is missing. I don't keep as good track of my period as many of you, but I think it must be some three months now.
Not sure wather to ask my Dr. for medicine or just wait...
It baffles me to think, first: the lack of knowledge about conception (ie: I'm using condoms... why am I having problems getting pregnant?)second: I have no money to go to the doctors! Is there something wrong with me or is this just plain ridiculous! I know this next statement is not for all and I am by no means stereotyping. Those out there know who you are, those that do not fit this have my empathy.
IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW BABIES ARE MADE AND YOU DON'T HAVE MONEY TO AFFORD THEM....WHY WOULD YOU EVER THINK ABOUT HAVING THEM! ACTUALLY THERE SHOULD BE A LAW AGAINST IT. AS A TAXPAYER I AM TIRED OF PAYING YOUR WELFARE, PUBLIC ASSISTANCE, AND MEDICAID! I HAVE A HARD ENOUGH TIME PAYING FOR MY OWN KIDS, I DON'T NEED THE ADDED EXPENSE OF PAYING FOR YOURS! I WOULD RATHER FUND A RESEARCH PROGRAM DESIGNED TO SOLVE CONCEPTION PROBLEMS FOR THOSE THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE/DESERVING COUPLES THAT CAN AFFORD CHILDREN AND PROVIDE THEM THE CARE THEY NEED AND DESERVE. IT IS SHAMEFUL THE WHIMSICAL ATTITUDE OUR SOCIETY HAS FOR MATTERS SUCH AS THESE.
First of all, I know where babies come from- I did make it through 5th grade health class. Second, just because I do not have insurance and cannot afford the outrageous doctor bills because our society is so screwed up and is more worried about making a buck than providing affordable healthcare does NOT mean I should not be allowed to have a child. I have never been on welfare or any other kind of public assistance, nor would I run out and get on it if I were to get pregnant. Your implication that only ...RESPONSIBLE/DESERVING COUPLES THAT CAN AFFORD CHILDREN... should be allowed to have children is ridiculous. Just because someone does not make as much money as you do does not mean they are responsible or deserving. You said yourself that you are having a hard enough time paying for your own kids which raises some doubt in my mind about how responsible or deserving you are yourself, based on your own previous comment.
I understand the types of people you are referring to- who continuously have children to reap the benefits of our government assistance and never work a day in their life or otherwise contribute to society. However this is not the place to attack people and judge whether or not we are responsible or deserving of having children- we came here looking for answers or advice on our individual situations. Your comments are not welcome and are quite offensive so please take them elsewhere.
To bd,
People come and view sites like this to look for support, maybe find an answer to their problems or even share their own experiences. Not to be critizied by people like you who thinks you know what goes on in the lives of other women. Just because people like myself or anyone else doesn't have health insurance doesn't mean we can't afford to have a child or should be banned from having children. Do you hear what you are saying especially coming from another woman.....Just to inform you, I'm also a tax payer like yourself but do you see me critizing people here and implying that we're abusers of government assistance....so please if you have nothing positive to say, don't say anything at all because you are in the wrong web site to be making comments like the ones you made.
WOW, THOUGHT THIS WAS A WEBSITE FOR WEMONS HEALTH, NOT PEOPLE SAYING HOW IF WEMON CAN'T AFFORD HAVING A BABY DON'T HAVE ONE, OR PEOPLE BITCH AND COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW WE ALL PAY OUR TAXES AND PAY FOR MEDIACDE AND WALEFARE, AT LEAST WE KNOW THAT THE OPTION IS OUT THERE IF PEOPLE NEED HELP THEY CAN GET IT, THERE'S PEOPLE WHO TAKE HARD FALLS AND NEED THE EXTRA HELP..
WHAT IF YOUR HOUSE GETS STRUCK BY A TORNADO WHAT THAT'S WRONG TO GET HELP
WHAT IF A FEMALE GOTTEN RAPED AND GOTTEN PREGNANT, AND SHE WASN'T EXPECTING TO HAVE A CHILD...
I'M A RAPE VICTOM
WALEFARE ISN'T JUST THERE FOR PREGNANT WEMON THEY ARE THERE FOR TONS OF OTHER THINGS AS WELL..
AND FOR BITCHING ABOUT THE TAXES AND MEDICADE AND WALEFARE, WHY ARE YOU BITCHING ABOUT IT, WHAT IS IT GOING TO SOLVE?? NOT A DAM THING, IT'S NOT GOING TO CHANGE NOTHING SO WHY COMPLAIN ABOUT IT???
ME AND MY HUSBAND PAY ALL THAT STUFF AS WELL
LOOK AT SOME OTHER COUNTRIES SEE HOW BAD THEY HAVE IT, I CONCIDER US LUCKY TO EVEN HAVE WALEFARE AND ALL THAT OTHER STUFF
I think people that cannot afford insurance still deserve babies I'm 19, happily married and own a house but I can't afford insurance but that's because with all the health problems I have it wouldn't be worth it. I can't work because I have a child with autism at home that needs me at the moment. Not just rich people deserve babies and children. Most of them don't even pay attention to their children.
Personnaly, I do not appreciate the comments that are being made on here. I came here for some help/advice, and now I am reading about how certain women do not deserve to have babies!
I am a working mother of 2, happily married. I work 40+ hours a week, I have been on State assistance for 9 years about. And if it weren't for my state insurance I would not be able to give my children the quality care they need. I am appriciative of the help that the state gives me. I cannot afford my health insurance from work. If I could I wouldn't need State Health Insurance. But it is there, and yes I do use it, but that by no means, means that I am not desrving of my children!!!
I pay taxes too, so if you look at it that way, I DO pay for my insurance.
I would appriciate if the ladies saying all those bad hurtfull things would stop! Thank You!
I was on the pill and then stopped taking it. I know that it takes a while to get affective, and when i first starting taking it me & my boyfriend stopped using protection. We've had sex for almost 2 months with no protection. I'm now 6 days late, but everytime I take a test it's negative. Could I be pregnant and it just not be showing or am I just freaking out!?
I have found out I am not pregnant. I have had pain on my right side for a long time which I was told a few months ago was a cyst on my ovary, well turns out the doc never felt a cyst during a pelvic exam. So I have now missed 2 periods. They might put me on hormones to bring on a period, but I am going for a ultrasound the beginning of May to see if we can figure out why I am having pain. Also I had my thyroid tested a few months ago also and they said it was within the normal range. So I am still confused... hope there is nothing bad going on!
Generally, its possible to ovulate on schedule and then still miss or have a very late period. Hormones, estrogen and progesterone are massively effected by cortisol, the stress hormone. In fact if you're on the pill and experiencing extreme stress cortisol production can make you ovulate(remember you dont ovulate on the pill).
Also responding to d1983, your weight is most likely responsible for your period irregularity. Extra body fat produces more estrogen which can act like birth control in your system. Beginning your menses at 8, could be indicative of high body fat %. I suggest losing 10% of your body weight and seeing if that helps get your schedule back on track.
Went to the doctor yesterday. Haven't found anything out yet. They did another urine test which was negative of course then took blood for a blood test and said they'll call me when they have the results. Since it is the low-income clinic that could take a few days.
The doctor at the clinic did seem a bit more concerned than the one at the hospital where I had the first blood test. When the results come back I will have to make an appointment with the clinic's gynecologist to find out what is going on. I will let you post again when I find out.
so being over weight can stop you from having periods? I haven't had one sense my son was born he will be a year next month, I bled after he was born thats all, yesterday I taken a pregnancy test and it came out negative, i'm over weight, i gained weight, and i feel like i have no energy anymore...
Does anyone know where I can go that helps low income people? I don't know whats going on with me, and now my breast have a little bit of milk coming out of them, they are not tender of full...
And one time I went to the hospital while back and the doctor told me i have a pretty good size syst on my right ovary and i need to get on birth control to make it go away...
Hi everyone :) I am a proud mother of 2 boys and had my tubes tied almost 5 years ago...Well around the same time last year I had a positive pregnancy test the OB did an ultrsound gave me a due date (November 11). I was so excited, until....I went and had my blood work done and it came back that the pregnant hormone was there but just not very strong...so I called my doctor and all he told me was it must have been a blood clot and once in awhile this can happen...Well guess what it happened again....So before I get all excited go through the emotions could this be anything else.....Please help my email is nickeo_28@hotmail.com Thank you
The 1st post on this message board was regarding Phentermine a while back. I too am on phentermine. Need to loose about 20 lbs. I want to get pregnant but never have a cycle. Since I started phentermine 30 days ago - I had spotting at least every other day. Some days enough to soak a pad, other days just barely.
Went back to dr yesterday for a refill, he up'd my dose b/c I didn't lose 1 lb on the lowest dose. Well I had been out for 5 days. Didn't have hardly any spotting. Started back today - on the higher dose - more than just spotting. Any info on this?
why are there so many stupid women on here?!?! if you are too stupid to figure out what time of the month you can get pregnant or too broke to afford health insurance you should NOT BE TRYING TO HAVE A BABY! save us decent taxpayers from paying for your welfare brats! arrugh!
Okay I was on birth control for a couple years on and off, but had to many side effects, so i decided to stop taking it, I had my periods regularly for about 8 months, then all of a sudden I haven't had a period in 3 months, I took about 10 pregnancy tests and all negative, went to the doctor, she didin't seem concerned at all, took a thyroid test, hormone test, blood pregnancy test, estrogen test, they all came back normal, pregnancy test was negative, so now what do I do? It's so frustrating because my husband and I want to have a baby now, and Im afraid I can't now because I can't even get my period. I wonder can you still get pregnant though I have missed my period?? What is going on??
This message is for MSH - take a hike. We don't need your negative imput. For you information some women simply do NOT ovulate for various reasons, a lot of times unknown reasons. I actually do know the reason for mine & take offense to your comment about "stupid women" on this site. My husband is a teacher & works very hard & we have excellent insurance. However, again - he's a teacher - they're never going to be high paid. He's working to teach ungrateful, spoiled, rude brats like yourself.
yeah so i just "missed my period"
but i still have cramps and i feel terrible
What's going on?!?!?!?!
TO MSH...I don't very much appreciate your comment.
Some of us have a hard time getting pregnant, some of us have missed their periods. That by no means, means that we shouldn't have babies. Kids are the most wonderful gift God could ever bless a woman with, and just because she can't afford health insurance doesn't mean she should not have a baby!
As I said before, if it weren't for the State Health Insurance I have, my 2 children would not recieve the quality care they so much deserve!! My job does not offer insurance and I cannot afford to pay $300 or more a month for insurance. I pay taxes too, so if ya think about it, I DO PAY FOR MY HEALTH IMSURANCE!!!
Thank you!
To Brenda
It's known for wemon to get pregnant without having a period, I know this one lady, she went through the change of life, didn't have no more periods or nothing, and then a couple years later, she ended up pregnant. And This one female told me one time she didn't start her period for over a year and she ended up pregnant.
I haven't started mine sense my son was born and he will be a year old next month..
Hope that helps
I am 2 weeks late.2 test later both said not pregnant.Doc said dont worry about it will come in time. But how can you not worry. This is enough to drive a women crazy. No wonder the things not here when your late you stress about it then that makes it even later.Sometimes being a women is rough.
My period is ALWAYS regular. I get it ever 29 days. It usually lasts about 6 days, heavy to start but lessening by day 4. Its been this regular for more than 10 years. I'm on the pill, my boyfriend and I generally use a condom too. I was due to get my period this past Sunday but I barely got it Wednesday and Thursday. Should I be worried at this point?
anyone heard of premature ovarian failure?
My name is Jo, i am a 26yr old mother of one. For seven years i was told that i was not going to be able to have kids. I had irregular periods and later found out that i had a pituitary tumor that secreted prolactin which for those who don't know is the hormone that causes you to make milk. After wishing and praying I finally got my chance. i now have a six month old boy. My pregnancy was difficult and i was on bed rest but i want you all to have hope:) it can happen. I had my tubes tied afterwards and have been regular until two months ago... kinda scared bc i have been really "not right" the past few days and this is how i found out before. I think i am gonna test tonight, my fiance wants me to. I told him i would strangle my doctor lol! no it would be a blessing but i am not ready for another and actually was really content having one. Will update when i know something
my husband and I have been trying for 5yrs. neither have any children. i went to my doc and he prescribed me provera 10mg for 10days prenatal rx and metformin 500mg. I was givent the same meds 6yrs ago along with clomid the fertility drug. my husband went to have his swimmers tested, hopefully we will get back good news about that so then atlease it will be just one of us that the doc has to fix, LOL I took me 10 day supply of the provera and day 7 was yeasteday for me to have a cycle, and i havent seen anything. I pray there is still tyme for it to work. anyone out there with the same or a simular story please reply back. Good luck ladies and God speed!!!!
i believe that you have to take the provera for the full 10 days for anything to start for you. I am on it, this is the 3rd month, part of HRT. with hopes to have a second child. good luck to you!
In response to yoshekirk. I recently went through Provera treatment. My last period was Feb.15. My Dr. prescribed Provera for 7days. After the seven day treatment it took 12 days for my period to start, which was just this past Tuesday. I am now taking Clomid for 5 days. Stay positive, it will come.
thank you your comment was very inlighting and needed. Its nice to know that althougth we are going through what we are going through that there are others that can relate and that we all are not alone.
to Sunnerleanne, Its possibe that you are pregnant and it is also possibe that you are not. Try not stressing or thinking about it for about another week. i know that this is a lot easier said than done but try it then go back and take a pregnancy test. If you results still come out negative I would go to you Health dept or tho your regular doc. if you have one. Good luck
I have read many ppl make the comment about being over weight. but is it really a factor in trying to get pregnant? i had a Doc visit 4/14/08 and I am over weight as well, about 40lbs to be exact. I was just wondering did any of your Doc.'s say anything to you about loosing any weight. My Doc didn't tell me to nor did he say that it could be the reason for me having missed periods, and having not conceived. Just wondering. Thanks
